The Junior League of Stark County, Ohio, Inc. Presents 80th Anniversary Golden Gala March 10, 2017 The Junior League of Stark County, Ohio, Inc. Welcome to the 80th Anniversary Golden Gala Welcome to this year’s Junior League of Stark County 80th Anniversary Gala! The Junior League of Stark County is celebrating our 80th anniversary of serving the community and this Auction and Gala is the biggest fundraising event held on behalf of our organization. The Junior League is an educational, charitable women's organization aimed at improving communities through voluntarism and building their members' civic leadership skills. This Gala would not be a success without our dedicated members and supporters. The items and services you have the opportunity to bid for tonight are contributions from community businesses and individuals. Some are new supporters and many have been generously contributing for years. We hope you will continue to support them as a community! Events like this one take many hours of hard work and dedication. I would like to give my sincere gratitude to the outstanding Major Fundraiser Committee, Cindy Fisher, and the board members for all of their hard work, time, and perseverance. You have all played a crucial role in making tonight a successful one. I also would like to thank my family, especially my husband Steve, for his support and love. It is our sincere hope that you enjoy this fun-filled evening! As you participate in our festivities, please remember that you are making a positive difference in the lives of those who need our help most in our community! Thank you for your generosity tonight! With Gratitude, Melinda Willard Major Fundraiser Chair Gala Committee Alida Fausnight Megan Seeley Lyndsey Hanzlik Beth Yoak Stephanie Kargel Abigail Schock (VP of Finance) Jennifer Kling (Major Fundraiser Chair Elect) Administrative Assistant Cindy Fisher A Message from the President Welcome! Thank you so much for joining us to celebrate and support 80 years of service. Junior League is a very special group of women who have worked tirelessly to improve our community over the years through innovative programs, service projects, and the development of civic leaders. Throughout the 80 years in the community, Junior League members have volunteered countless hours to make an impact. Over the past 18 months, Provisional, Active, and Sustaining members have provided over 1,000 meals to teens that attend The Martin Center (TMC) in southeast Canton. With the help of an ad hoc grant writing committee last year, TMC was able to secure a $25,000 grant to go towards kitchen appliances and food for a backpack program. Upgrades to the kitchen are underway: A stove, freezer, and a refrigerator have been purchased and installed with plans for countertops and cabinets in process. Members repainted the kitchen and filled backpacks with food and hygiene items for students to take home over the Christmas holidays. The grant that TMC received will allow us to stretch the funds we have allocated for projects with TMC even more. Additionally, Provisional members are planning a dance for students at Pathway Caring for Children. Members have also volunteered for events like the Early Childhood Resource Center’s Big Big Really Big Toy Box event, Community Harvest’s Hunger Run, and we have plans to help with Andre’s house, a group home for adults with mental illness. In addition to our community impact projects, another important mission of League is to invest in developing the potential of women. Last November we provided a joint northeast Ohio training in Akron to bring motivational speaker, Vicki Clark, to facilitate a Learning Style Inventory and discuss topics around leadership and balance. JLSC has also provided funds for The Junior Leaders Community Service Grant. This year, three girls in Stark County have been awarded a total of $5,000 to fund service projects to benefit the community supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Massillon, Refuge of Hope, and Jayani’s Treasurer Chest through The Aultman Foundation. This year, we will also celebrate our 70th Women of the Year event to honor two outstanding women who have demonstrated a commitment to serving the community and who serve as wonderful examples of servant leaders. Our members work so hard at home, at work, and in the community, with the generous support of their friends and families. Whether you are here this evening as a member, a friend, a community partner, or a donor, I thank each and every one of you for helping us serve others. We truly could not do what we do without your support. Stephanie Helline President The Junior League of Stark County, Ohio, Inc. The Junior League of Stark County, Ohio, Inc.
