REPORT BY CHAIRMAN — J. EDWIN ASPINALL s c h a ir m a n of the United States Olympic Women’s Swimming Committee, I A had the honor and privilege of conducting meetings of the group at the Women’s Swimming Championships and also at the National Amateur Athletic Union conventions prior to the 1956 Games at Melbourne, Australia. The entire committee worked hard toward raising funds for the team in the various sections of U. S. A. where the committee members were located. This, along w ith the $25,000 were given to our team at the very successful Olympic Tryouts held at Detroit, Michigan, made an extremely generous financial contribution for the United States Olympic Women’s Swimming Team. J. Edwin Aspinall The committee elected Jack Cody as swimming coach, Clarence Pinkston as Chairman diving coach and Vee Toner as manager. Mr. Cody was unable to accept the post because of illness while Mr. Pinkston could not accept because of business pressure. The members of the committee then elected Stan Tinkham as swimming coach and U . S. Olympic Games Committee Glenn McCormick as diving coach. The group elected was approved by the United SWIMMING—WOMEN States Olympic Committee; however, Mrs. Toner was also assigned the additional Chairman position as chaperone of the group. J.
