VOLUME 10, ISSUE 2 Page 3 Student Leadership Essay by Della Crain Hi, my name is Della Crain; I am eleven years old and would like to be on the Student Leadership Committee.

I just completed my 3rd year in my 4-H club, Lena Live Wires. I won numerous awards for my leadership and participa- tion in 4-H. I received top 1st year 4-H member for the County, top 1st year in Sewing, Project achievement in Food, and received top hon- or for the Club's scrapbook I completed with 2 other members for our club. I participated in monthly meetings, attended camp, help with fund raisers to pay for county and state dues, and donate and collected non perishable goods and food to the pantry; and give candy to the nursing home during Easter and Halloween.

In my last year in elementary school, I was selected to be on the Wee deliver in April, and during the school year I went to Mrs. William's class, 2-4 times a week and gave help to a student to read who has dyslexia.

I have been taking dance and tumbling classes since I was 3 years old and performing at each year-end recital. Dance has been very fun, but I looking forward to Jr. High and its new challenges, and would love to commit my time to Student Leadership.

I like to help out others and learn new ways, and its fun to share work with other committee members, and I like being involved with my school.

I would like to do more for our community like: donate more to the food pantry, by making a game out of it, by giving items points, and the grade with most point wins, doing a coat and mitten drive, set up a giving tree for the teachers, or volunteering time at the friendship center. We could set up students with pen pals across the world, and students would learn about other cultures.

I have dedication, loyalty, and participation in many past and current activities and as you can see, I have the qualities it takes to be a student leader.

Student Leadership Essay by Allison Weegens I’m Allison Weegens and I would like to be on Student Leadership because I like to help others. Some of my favorite things from last year were the winter and summer clothes drives, making placemats, making power point presenta- tions that were educating about bullying, and much more. I would like to make the school a more positive environment by giving rewards to people who do good things. I would also help others by talking to them if they are having a bad day and try and make it better. I would help new stu- dents find their teachers and classes. My ideas for the upcoming school year would be to encourage students to come to sports events and cheer on their classmates. I would also like to do more bullying power points or something to keep educating about bullying and try to stop it. I also think that we should sell t-shirts, sweatshirts or anything else like that to show school pride. I am going to accomplish these ideas because I want to also make the school a better place and more positive atti- tude. I can do this by personally going to sports events, I could help educate about bullying and not be a bully myself and be nice to others. I also could buy the t-shirts and other clothes to show my school pride.

Student Leadership Essay by Dorthea Fiedler My name is Dorthea Fiedler and I would love to be a Student Leader this year. I was a Student Leader last year and the year before I was a Peer Mediator. For both of those years I loved helping our school. I have some ideas that we could do for the 2011-2012 school year. This year during Halloween time we could have a costume contest at a dance. The idea of this is that you come to a dance in cos- tume and you just have a good time. Then at the end everyone votes for their top 3 favorite costumes. But you cannot vote for your own outfit. Then the winners are announced before everyone leaves. That was one of the ways we can do at our school. A couple years ago we went to the soup kitchen. We didn’t go last year, but I think it would be good to do that again during Christmas time. Also another thing we could do around Christmas is hold a toy drive for the kids around town. Another one is that we could make a collection of gifts for a needy family. We could ask a church if they knew any needy families. If they did, they would just give us the information of how many people are in that family. (ex.- 2 parents and 2 girls, ages 8 and 9. We won’t know the name so that we won’t know how needy they are) We could put things in it like clothes for the family, toys, food, etc. then when we are done we give the collection to the church so they can give it to the family. The family will be anonymous. We would be teaching our students how to be grateful for what we have that not every family has. We will also be helping families at the same time. Student Leadership Essay by McKenzie Temperly

I, McKenzie Temperly, would like to be on Student Leadership for the 2011-2012 school year because I enjoy helping others with homework, personal situations, and etc. Also, I feel that I’m a very positive role model to the school and other students. By being a positive role model on Student Leadership, students would look up to me in for the positive activities that I do or help with. They, even if they many not be on Student Leadership, would think that would be a great activity to help out in as well. Hopefully they would also get involved in community projects, as well as school projects too. Another reason that I think that I should be on Student Leadership, is that I will help with any project and work with anyone. I think that it shouldn’t matter whom you work with because when you come together to help make the community and school a more positive environment you should cooperate with one another to get the project done faster and be done more effi- ciently. I feel that these reasons show that I would make a great candidate and student leader for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year. I would make the school a more positive environment by doing a multiple of things, but here are a few. I would help students with personal problems or problems they may have a school. Some examples of this are, they may not be able to get help with homework at home; I would be there to tutor or help the student if he/she needed help. Also, if a student might be having a problem with another student at school, and so I would help both students realize that whatever the situ- ation may be it can always be resolved, but never with violence. If the students would use violence, others may think that that is the right thing to do. That wouldn’t make the school a very positive environment to be around. So my point is that I want to help my peers with any problems that they may have, and that they can always come to a student leader to ask for help. Another way I would make the school a more positive environment, is helping get other students involved with school activities, like helping other student leaders make posters for school dances or charity raisings, helping make breakfast or cards for the teachers on Teacher Appreciation Day, or make placemats for the nursing home. So even though other stu- dents may not be on Student Leadership, I hopefully as a student leader want them to get involved with school and commu- nity projects to help make the community and our more positive environment. I have many ideas for the 2011-2012 school year. I think we should have a “Saving our Planet Day.” We would go and plant trees and other plants somewhere in our area that needs them most. Or we could go around Lena and pick up all of the trash that we find on the ground. Another activity we could do is make little gift baskets that contain: shampoo, gran- ola bars, cards, or anything that we could send to our soldiers. Just to help brighten their day. We could also have a bake sale and donate the money we raise to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation or any other charity the school wants to donate the money to. Also, we could have pep-rallies the days we have home games or meets to get us all pumped up and excited for the game. Another idea I had in mind was schedule a day we could go to the nursing home to talk to the elders and make them feel good that someone came to see them and that our school cares about everyone in the community. Then, on Teacher Appreciation Day, we could decorate the teachers’ doors and tell them how much we really appreciate and care about them. I have many more ideas to share with you that we can do throughout the school year. I am going to accomplish these ideas/goals by raising money to buy trees for the “Saving our Planet Day” and etc. To raise money, like I said before, we could have a bake sale, a school car wash, or maybe even ask for donations at football, basketball, etc. games. We are going to accomplish these goals because we’re a great school, one that is respectful to one another and works together. And when we work together these goals will be accomplished. I would like to accomplish all of these goals because they are fun activities that the school can come together and do with each other. We’ll have fun be- cause we’re together, but at the same time we are doing great things for the community. I hope to be a great candidate and you consider me as a student leader for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.

Student Leadership Essay by Tanner Lawfer Hi. My name is Tanner Lawfer and I’m in 7th grade. My grades are mostly all A’s. I like helping people learn about things that they don’t know about and making the school better. I also enjoy helping out younger kids. First, I think we should have the Cuba City Drama Team back again to teach us more about bullying. I hope that we could teach the younger kids about pollution and deforestation. Everyday the Earth is getting more and more polluted from chemicals to Global Warming. Plus more and more of the Earths rainforests are being cut down for farmland. We need the forest to help produce oxygen for us humans to breath. I would love to be in Student Leadership this year because I think I would learn a lot and have tons of fun.
