Thank you for joining us to celebrate fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community in the media. Tonight, as we recognize outstanding achievements and bold visions, we also take pause to remember the impact of our most powerful tool: our voice. The past year in news, entertainment and online media reminds us that our stories are what continue to drive equality forward. When four states brought marriage equality to the election FROM THE PRESIDENT ballot last year, GLAAD stepped forward to help couples across the nation to share messages of love and commitment that lit the way for landmark victories in Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and Washington. Now, the U.S. Supreme Court will weigh in on whether same- sex couples should receive the same federal protections as straight married couples, and GLAAD is leading the media narrative and reshaping the way Americans view marriage equality. Because of GLAAD’s work, the Boy Scouts of America is closer than ever before to ending its discriminatory ban on gay scouts and leaders. GLAAD is empowering people like Jennifer Tyrrell – an Ohio mom who was ousted as leader of her son’s Cub Scouts pack – to share their stories with top-tier national news outlets, helping Americans understand the harm this ban inflicts on gay youth and families.

Old wounds and rumours of the past resurface and haunt him as he tries to find out who really killed her. The film isn’t your typical revenge film. Looks are deceiving. In fact, it isn’t a revenge film at all. It’s a Greek tragedy that explores the central character’s guilt through Dante’s Inferno. Beyond, the murder and the treachery, the film is an emotional journey about a father and a daughter. This is the heart of the project. Without touching on a father’s love, the film fails. In fact, everything happens because of a father’s love for his daughter. He acts out of love.

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES: SOCIOECONOMIC CLASS REPRESENTATION IN SITCOMS by ALEXANDRA HICKS A THESIS Presented to the School of Journalism and Communication and the Robert D. Clark Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Arts June 2014 A• Abstracto( the Thesis of Alexandra Hicks for 1he degree ofBachelor of Arts in the School of Journalism and Communication to be talcen June, 2014 Title: Keeping Up With the Jonescs: Socioeconomic Class Representation in Sitcoms Awroa:&~ This thesis examines the representation of socioeconomic class in situation comedies. Through the influence of the advertising industiy, situation comedies (sitcoms) have developed a pattem throughout history of misrepresenting ~ial class, which is made evident by their portrayals ofdifferent races, genders, and professions. To rectify the IKk ofprevious studies on modem comedies, this study analyzes socioeconomic class representation on sitcoms that have aired in the last JS years by taking a sample ofseven shows and comparing the estimated cost of characters' residences to the amount of money they would likely earn in their given profession. 1be study showed that modem situation comedies misrepresent socioeconomic class by portraying characters living in residences well beyond what they could afford in real life. Accurate demonstration ofsocioeconomic class on television is imperative be<:ause images presented on television genuinely influence viewers• perceptions of reality. Inaccurate portrayals ofclass could cause audiences to develop distorted views ofmember.; of socioeconomic classes and themselves. u Acknowledgements I would like to thank Professor Debra Merskin for inspiring me to examine television in an in-depth and critical manner.

  • Celebrity Interview: ‘Botched’ Star Dr
Celebrity Interview: ‘Botched’ Star Dr. Paul Nassif Discusses Being Single, Skincare and Spin-Off Shows Interview by Lori Bizzoco. Written by Stephanie Sacco. Dr. Paul Nassif is more than a doctor on reality TV. He’s a renowned facial plastic surgeon and skincare specialist. Though people may remember him from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, he’s even more recognizable for his E! reality series, Botched which he co-hosts with former RHOC star, Dr. Terry Dubrow. The success of Botched has even led to a few upcoming spin-off shows, Botched By Nature and Botched Post- Op. Last week, Nassif spoke to us in an exclusive celebrity interview about the upcoming spin-off shows, his new anti- aging skincare line and his very single relationship status. Reality TV Star Dr. Paul Nassif Talks ‘Botched’ Success Back when Nassif first developed the concept for Botched and pitched the show, his co-host was doubtful, calling Nassif “crazy” for wanting to put plastic surgery on TV. “Now look at us,” the former RHOBH star says. Botched is in its third season and the show has led to multiple spin-off series. One of the many reasons for the show’s success is that all the cases are legitimate, and Nassif and Dubrow are passionate about their clients.
