PREFACE This brochure is a third one in a series of annual additions to the Cata- logue of the spiders of the territories of the former Soviet Union. The basic structure of the main catalogue has not been changed in the present addition (for details, see the Methodology chapter). The checklist in- cludes only species with revised distribution data (given bold). Species being new to the list are underlined. Other novations, like generic affiliation of cer- tain species (especially in the former Lepthyphantes), new synonymy, are to be checked completely in the revised edition of the main catalogue. I am deeply obliged to my colleagues Drs. Yu.M. Marusik (Magadan), D.V. Logunov (Novosibirsk), S.L. Esyunin (Perm), A.V. Tanasevitch (Mos- cow), Mr. A.V. Gromov (Alma-Ata), Dr. S.V. Lukyantsev (Tomsk), Dr. N.S. Mazura (Syktyvkar) and to numerous other persons for supplying me with all necessary publications. 3 METHODOLOGY Each spider species included in the checklist is supplied with an attribu- tion both to main physiographical areas and to post-Soviet republics. The phys- iographical areas and republics are coded by Russian letters and abbrevia- tions, respectively. The sequence of references is as follows: Physiographical areas (see also Map 1). À Atlantic-Arctic insular area, Á Fennoscandia (Karelian-Kola area),  Russian Plain, Ã1 Novaya Zemlya and Vaigach islands, Ã2 Urals, Ä Carpathians, Å1 Crimea, Å2 Caucasus, Æ1 Armenian Upland, Æ2 Kopetdagh Mts, Ç+È mountainous Middle Asia, Ê deserts of Middle Asia, Ë Kazakhstan hills, Ì West Siberia, Í+Î Middle Siberia, Ï mountains of South Siberia, Ð northeastern Siberia, Ñ1 continental Far North-East (without Kamchatka), Ñ2 Kamchatka, Ñ3 northern Kurile Islands, Ñ4 Commander Islands, Ò1 continental Southern Far East (Amur-Maritime area), Ò2 Sakhalin and Moneron islands, Ò3 southern Kurile Islands. Republics: ÐÔ Russia, Ýñò Estonia, Ëàòâ Latvia, Ëèò Lithuania, Áåë Byelorussia (Belarus), Óêð Ukraine, Ìîëä Moldavia (Moldova), Ãð Georgia, 4 Ñ1 Ã1 Ð Ñ4 Á Ñ2  Ñ1 Ä Ì Ñ3  Ò2 Ã2 Í+Î Ò1 Å1 Ï Ò3 Â Ï Å2 Ë Æ1 Ê Ç+È Æ2 Ç+È Map 1. Physiographical areas of the ex-USSR territory (after Ãâîçäåöêèé, 1968, with some changes). Explana- 5 tions in text. Àç Azerbaijan, Àðì Armenia, Êàç Kazakhstan, Óçá Uzbekistan, Òóðê Turkmenia (Turkmenistan), Êèðã Kirghizia (Kyrgyzstan), Òàäæ Tajikistan. Families are arranged according to Platnicks catalogue. Synonyms are marked with a = sign, only names cited in the Russian/ Soviet arachnological literature are reported. Some old combinations not ac- cepted here are also incorporated without =. Valid subspecies are mentioned with a + sign. Nomina dubia are given in the main list, whereas nomina nuda are removed to the end of each family list. For nomina dubia, all available sources are reported. Doubtful identifications are marked with a ?, misiden- tifications with a ?? symbol. Species/generic names recorded in the former USSR territory with doubts or definitely erroneously are cited in figure brack- ets ({}) and in parentheses (), respectively. Species names hew to the list are underlined. New data entered hereinaf- ter are given bold. According to ICZN [1985], Article 33d, original species endings cannot be changed from -ii to -i. So, in theory a lot of traditionally accepted names of European spiders are to be changed: Maso sundevallii instead of M. sundeval- li, Pachygnatha degeerii instead of P. degeeri, etc. I am not prepared yet to applying this rule directly, so I have simply marked all such cases in the text of the current checklist by one asterisk (*). Please note that the spelling of some Russian names has traditionally been non-English, mostly German or Latin: Bachwalow instead of Bakhvalov, Chari- tonov instead of Kharitonov, Mcheidze instead of Mkheidze, Michailov instead of Mikhailov, Ponomarjov instead of Ponomarev (or Ponomaryov), Saveljeva instead of Savelyeva (or Savelieva), Tystshenko instead of Tyshchenko, Utotsch- kin instead of Utochkin, Wagner instead of Vagner, Zawadsky instead of Zavad- skiy. Yet in the bibliographical index all such names are anglified as opposed to their latinized (germanized) names used after their taxa in the main list. In the bibliographical index, all Russian, Ukrainian, Georgian, etc. paper and book names are translated into English, in square brackets ([]). Authors name is transliterated into English, also in square brackets. An English, Ger- man, etc. name of Russian authors is given also in Russian. The journal, col- lective paper or newspaper names are given in the original language, mostly Russian, and can be easily transliterated, mainly according to the Science Ci- tation Index. Cyrillic letters should be written as follows: 6 à a; á b; â v; ã g, gh; ä d; å e; ¸ yo, e; æ zh; ç z; è i; é i,y; èé iy; ê k; ë l; ì m; í n; î o; ï p; ð r; ñ s; ò t; ó u; ô f; õ kh; ö ts; ÷ ch; ø sh; ù shch; ú to omit; û y; ü to omit; ý e; þ yu; ÿ ya. In the administrative divisions, the Russian oblast stands for Area, krai for Province, and rayon for District. Russian references to a certain year are given before the English ones of the same year, for example: Ìèõàéëîâ, 1995à, 1995á, Mikhailov, 1995a, 1995b, etc. Consecutive references to papers of one and the same Russian author with different foreign co-authors are given according to the Russian, not En- glish, alphabet: [Ëîãóíîâ, Âåñîëîâñêà] Logunov, Weso³owska is cited before [Ëîãóíîâ, Êàòëåð] Logunov, Cutler. In some cases, necessary remarks to papers and books are given in paren- theses () beginning a new paragraph. 7 ADDITION TO THE CHECKLIST OF THE SPIDERS OF RUSSIA AND OTHER TERRITORIES OF THE FORMER USSR Oecobiidae Uroctea limbata (C.L.Koch, 1843) Å2, Æ2, Ê. A list of collected spiders is given. Zelotes rinske spec. nov. is described after a single female. Dictyna innocens O. P.-Cambridge, 1872, Leptodrassus femineus (Simon, 1873), Nomisia recepta (Pavesi, 1880), Zelotes criniger Denis, 1937, Pellenes brevis (Simon, 1868), and Salticus propinquus Lucas, 1846 are reported for the first time from mainland Italy. Illustrations are provided of the problematic species Dictyna innocens O. P.-Cambridge, 1872. The poorly- known female of Araeoncus altissimus Simon, 1884 is described and depicted. 141 specimens representing 105 species were DNA barcoded. Key words: Araneae, barcoding, Zelotes rinske INTRODUCTION In the springtime of 2011, two of the authors (PJvH and SIJ) made a trip to Gargano in Italy in order to study spiders. Gargano is a peninsula situated in the province of Apulia (Puglia) and is known as the “spur” of the Italian “boot” (fig. 1). The Gargano promontory is rich in karst structures like caves and dolines. It has a very rich flora and fauna, and is known as one of the richest locations for orchids in Europe with some 56 species, some of which are endemic.

ACTA ZOOLOGICA BULGARICA Acta zool. bulg., 57 (3), 2005: 299-304 A Contribution to the Knowledge of the Jumping Spiders (Salticidae: Araneae) of the Republic of Macedonia Cene Fiser1, GaUna Azarkina2 Abstract: Eight species of jumping spiders, new to the fauna of the Republic of Macedonia were found in three side valleys of the Vardar River. The species Aelurillus v-insignitus, Evarcha jucunda, Pellenes geniculatus, Pellenes ostrinus, Pseudeuophrys obsoleta and Pseudicius picaceus had been expected in the eountry. On the contrary, Aelurillus concolor and Neaetha absheronica were recorded for the first time in Europe. These findings substantially contrib ute to the understanding of the two species' distribution. Key words: jumping spiders, Salticidae, Macedonia, Aelurillus conc%r, Neaetha absheronica Introduction An extensive faunistic review of the spider fauna of the Republic of Macedonia made by Blagoev (2002) revealed 558 species of 36 families registered in the country since 1907. Approximately 10% (58 species) of the fauna are represented by the family Salticidae (BLAGOEV 2002). The search for spiders in three subsidiary valleys of the Vardar River Valley, conducted in May 2004, provided us with interesting findings. Among the spiders collected, eight species of jumping spiders are new to the fauna of the Republic of Macedonia. The fmdings of two of them significantly refined our knowledge regarding their distribution. All these new findings are discussed in the present work. Material and Methods Spiders were collected from 30 April to 2 May 2004 by C. Fiser. They were caught by hand and preserved in 70% ethyl alcohol. Collecting sites were the south-exposed slopes of the valleys of the rivers Topolka, Babuna and Treska (Fig.

Univerzita Palackého, Přírodovědecká fakulta, Katedra ekologie a životního prostředí, Olomouc, 35 s., v češtině.

E-mails: [email protected]; [email protected] [Demir, H. & Seyyar, O. 2017. Annotated checklist of the spiders of Turkey. Munis Entomology & Zoology, 12 (2): 433-469] ABSTRACT: The list provides an annotated checklist of all the spiders from Turkey. A total of 1117 spider species and two subspecies belonging to 52 families have been reported. The list is dominated by members of the families Gnaphosidae (145 species), Salticidae (143 species) and Linyphiidae (128 species) respectively. KEY WORDS: Araneae, Checklist, Turkey, Fauna To date, Turkish researches have been published three checklist of spiders in the country. The first checklist was compiled by Karol (1967) and contains 302 spider species. The second checklist was prepared by Bayram (2002). He revised Karol’s (1967) checklist and reported 520 species from Turkey. Latest checklist of Turkish spiders was published by Topçu et al. (2005) and contains 613 spider records. A lot of work have been done in the last decade about Turkish spiders. So, the checklist of Turkish spiders need to be updated. We updated all checklist and prepare a new checklist using all published the available literatures. This list contains 1117 species of spider species and subspecies belonging to 52 families from Turkey (Table 1). This checklist is compile from literature dealing with the Turkish spider fauna. The aim of this study is to determine an update list of spider in Turkey.

  • Assemblages of Herb-Dwelling Spiders (Araneae) of Various Steppe Types in Ukraine and the Central Chernozem Region of Russia
Arachnologische Mitteilungen 43: 66-78 Nuremberg, July 2012 Assemblages of herb-dwelling spiders (Araneae) of various steppe types in Ukraine and the Central Chernozem region of Russia Nina Y. Polchaninova doi: 10.5431/aramit4312 Abstract: A total of 107 spider species from 15 families were recorded in the herbaceous vegetation of the steppe ecosystems of Ukraine and the central chernozem region of Russia. Araneidae, Thomisidae, Salticidae and Theridiidae were the most species-rich. The species composition depended on the steppe type; adjacent forest habitats influenced steppe fauna in the forest-steppe and northern part of the steppe natural zone. The number of generalist, forest and wetland dwelling species in the steppe vegetation showed a tendency to decrease towards the south. Dominance of herb-dwelling spiders was specific to each steppe type; no single species was found to predominate in all the steppe habitats. Key words: dominance structure, species distribution, spider communities, steppe ecosystems Steppes are the most transformed ecosystem in assemblages (chernov 1975). Habitat preference of Ukraine. The steppe natural zone comprises 40% of species depends on the natural zone (Kühnelt 1943, the country and about 80% of this territory was once Walter 1960, Bei-BienKo 1966). According to the covered with steppe vegetation. Presently, only 3% so-called ‘principle of zonal change of habitats’ (Bei- of relatively undisturbed virgin steppes have survived BienKo 1966), or the principle of ‘relative stenotopy’ intact. They are preserved mainly in nature reserves (schaefer 1992), widespread species moving north- or on gully slopes and saline lands not suitable for wards can change their habitats to dryer warmer open agriculture (KotenKo 1996).

  • Road Verges Are Important Secondary Habitats for Grassland Arthropods
Journal of Insect Conservation (2019) 23:899–907 https://doi.org/10.1007/s10841-019-00171-9 ORIGINAL PAPER Road verges are important secondary habitats for grassland arthropods Hardeep Kaur1,2 · Attila Torma1 · Nikolett Gallé‑Szpisjak2 · Jelena Šeat1,3 · Gábor Lőrinczi1 · Gábor Módra1 · Róbert Gallé1,2 Received: 18 February 2019 / Accepted: 29 July 2019 / Published online: 6 September 2019 © The Author(s) 2019 Abstract Semi-natural linear landscape elements such as road verges, hedgerows and feld margins are important in maintaining the connectivity between habitat fragments of highly modifed landscapes. Preservation of habitat specialist fauna requires conservation of the remaining natural habitat patches and connectivity of fragments. Our study focuses on the spider, ant and true bug fauna and functional diversity (FD) of fragmented forest steppe patches, moderately grazed pastures and road verges embedded in a matrix of forest plantations in Hungary, Central Europe. We established total 30 sampling sites, 10 in each, the grassland component of forest-steppes (F), pastures (P) and road verges (R) near pine forests. We collected arthropods with pitfall and sweep-net techniques. We calculated FD and species composition of arthropods using linear mixed models. We observed higher species richness in road verges for spiders and ants. We also found higher FD values for spiders and diferent trait composition for all taxa in road verges when compared with forest steppes and pastures. Species composition suggests that road verges do not serve as habitat for several forest-steppe and grassland species, in spite of the fact that numerous specialist species were found in the road verges.

  • Recovery of Spider Communities After a Spontaneous Summer Fire in the Forb-Bunchgrass Steppe of Eastern Ukraine
HACQUETIA 14/1 • 2015, 79–96 DOI: 10.1515/hacq-2015-0015 RECOVERY OF SPIDER COMMUNITIES AFTER A SPONTANEOUS SUMMER FIRE IN THE FORB-BUNCHGRASS STEPPE OF EASTERN UKRAINE Nina POLCHANINOVA* Abstract Recently, anthropogenic fires in protected areas have become more frequent. I studied the response of the spider community after an extensive summer fire in the ‘Striltsivskyi Steppe’ Reserve in eastern Ukraine. A total of 117 spider species was found in the pre-fire period, 40 species were registered in the first and 89 species in the third post-fire year. Herb-dwelling spiders began to colonize burnt plots in July, when juveniles of the new generation began dispersing. In September, their abundance was similar to that of undisturbed steppe and within three years, the spider assemblages recovered almost completely. Cursorial ground-dwellers in the first post-fire year decreased in species richness and increased in activity density. In the third year, their species diversity and activity density became much higher than in control plots. Some xerophilous species benefited from the fire. Litter dwellers are extremely vulnerable. During the three post-fire years, their numbers and diversity did not recover. Some rare species with a patchy geographical distribution disappeared from the local fauna. Such a reaction of endangered species is the main restriction on the use of fire as a conservation management. The prerequisite for its implementation is maintaining relevant refuges for threatened species. Keywords: endangered species, post-fire recovery, spider assemblage, ‘Striltsivskyi Steppe’ Reserve, summer fire. Izvleček Antropogeni požari na zavarovanih območjih so v zadnjem času vse bolj pogosti.

Meanwhile, Central European spiders have undergone substantial changes in abundance and distribution. In this report, an updated Red List is presented and compared with the previous editions from 1992 and 2002, assessing all 879 spider species known to occur in the Czech Republic. For the first time, the abundance, area of occupancy and population trends were calculated for each of the species using the data from the Czech Arachnological Society recording scheme. Twenty-seven species (3% of the total) were classified as Regionally Extinct (RE), 92 (10%) as Critically Endangered, 115 (13%) as Endangered, 155 (18%) as Vulnerable, and 121 (14%) were classified as Least Concern species.
