RIO'S MAJOR STEP, MAJOR SEMINARY Let us give thanks to the Lord with our hands outstretched as the city’s Redeemer, in praise for the new Major Seminary for our Pallottines in Rio de Janeiro. Surely, our Society is on an impelling pursuit to share all of God’s divine goodness with its country; after all, Brazil has the largest Catholic population in the world. It’s blessing by Fr. General Jacob one week ago- during the South American Meeting of Superiors- not only inaugurated a new beginning of evangelizing the country’s 126 million Catholics with Pallotti’s Spirit, but it also prompted a milestone administrative change. Rio’s youthful Region of the Mother of Mercy has now become autonomous to Poland’s Annunciation of the Lord Province; truly signifying that through its accompaniment and care- in a very natural way- its child has spread its wings to independence. “Because mission,” as Pope Francis said in an off the cuff speech to seminarians last year, “is something that the Spirit impels us to do: to go out, go out, always go out; but if there is no apostolic horizon, there is the danger of making mistakes and going out not to bear a message but to ‘take a stroll’, that is, to go out ineffectively…. Please, allow yourselves to be shaped. What the formators propose are not passing fancies. If you do not agree, talk about it. But be men, not children, courageous men. This is important, to say what you feel. In this way your character can be shaped, in order to be truly a vase full of grace…. Take courage!” UKRAINE "VERSO L'ALTO!" TO THE HEIGHTS! RECENT PUBLICATIONS 1984 — 2017 ISSUES 1 — 100 Recent Publications is a compendium of books and articles on cartography and cartographic subjects that is included in almost every issue of The Portolan. It was compiled by the dedi- cated work of Eric Wolf from 1984-2007 and Joel Kovarsky from 2007-2017. The worldwide cartographic community thanks them greatly. Recent Publications is a resource for anyone interested in the subject matter. Given the dates of original publication, some of the materi- als cited may or may not be currently available. The information provided in this document starts with Portolan issue number 100 and pro- gresses to issue number 1 (in backwards order of publication, i.e. most recent first). To search for a name or a topic or a specific issue, type Ctrl-F for a Windows based device (Command-F for an Apple based device) which will open a small window. Then type in your search query. For a specific issue, type in the symbol # before the number, and for issues 1— 9, insert a zero before the digit. For a specific year, instead of typing in that year, type in a Portolan issue in that year (a more efficient approach). The next page provides a listing of the Portolan issues and their dates of publication. SYMPOSIUM ON DIALOGUE CHURCH IN DIALOGUE Towards a Synthesis: Mission and Dialogue for Salvation1 CHIESA IN DIALOGO Verso una sintesi: missione e dialogo per la salvezza Vincent Gabriel Furtado2 Introduction A significant feature of the contemporary world repletes with vi- olence, terror, hatred and intolerance is the phenomenon of ‘dialogue’3, which is a unique dimension of human communication4. Dialogue, as the term itself signifies, generally implies two issues, two perspectives, two viewpoints or two worldviews in polarity. The Catholic Church since Vatican II has effected a Copernican Revolution in its mode of engagement with the world. The long tradition of monologue with the self-understanding that it has the obligation only to teach and proclaim has been transformed after the Vatican Council II into an attitude of lis- tening, a desire to focus its attention on the other, and most importantly a good will and openness to ‘learn’. With this perspective the Church is in the best of disposition to be a dialogue partner, and the primary en- gagement of the Church being the sphere of religious and spiritual, it can creatively plunge into this activity and display its leadership in in- ter-religious dialogue. The declaration that “dialogue is a new way of 1 Lecture presented during the Symposium on Dialogue at Prabodhana, on the occasion of the Pilgrimage of the Reliquiae of Blessed Elisabetta Sanna in India. 2 Franciscan Institute of Philosophy, Kripalaya, Bogati, Mysore. 3 John Amankwah, The Church and the Voice of the Other: The Growth of the Faith Community and Dialogue in the Church, Duquesne University: 2005; https://dsc.duq.edu/etd.

EDITOR’S NOTE DOI: HTTPS://DOI.ORG/10.30446/2611-4143.VOL22N50A2020PP13-16 EDITOR’S NOTE Dear Reader, the editorial direction of the journal “Apostolato Universale” pre- sents with great satisfaction n. 50, which represents a research on the charism of St. Vincent Pallotti. Pallotti Institute was founded in 1946 and the first issue of the journal “Apostolato Universale” was published in 1999. Today we present the fifth volume of the new format of the journal, begun with n. 46, in 2018. In this way we go forward with dif- ferent challenges, trying to respond to today’s needs, both of the Church and of culture through the charism of St. Vincent Pallotti. N. 50 presents a new cover color, highlighting the conclusion of two years of work, that is, four volumes. We have, in this issue, seven articles, two symposium, thirteen communications and six studies of Apostles Today of the UAC. The first article is by the Rector of the Holy Family Province (Rwanda) Eugène Niyonzima on the relevance of the Pallottine charism with its foundation in theology, christology, mariology and ecclesiology with the purpose of carrying out the mis- sion and apostolate in today’s world. Vittorina d’Imperio, sister of the Congregation of the Roman Pal- lottines, presents a research on the Pallottine charism centered on the identity of the charism that finds in Christ, Apostle of the Eternal Fa- ther, the reason for the apostolate. This perspective has been confirmed especially by St. John Paul II and Pope Francis who, in other words, indicates a charism in communion with the Church and at her service.
