EDITOR’S NOTE

Dear Reader,

the editorial direction of the journal “Apostolato Universale” pre- sents with great satisfaction n. 50, which represents a research on the charism of St. . Pallotti Institute was founded in 1946 and the first issue of the journal “Apostolato Universale” was published in 1999. Today we present the fifth volume of the new format of the journal, begun with n. 46, in 2018. In this way we go forward with dif- ferent challenges, trying to respond to today’s needs, both of the Church and of culture through the charism of St. Vincent Pallotti. N. 50 presents a new cover color, highlighting the conclusion of two years of work, that is, four volumes. We have, in this issue, seven articles, two symposium, thirteen communications and six studies of Apostles Today of the UAC. The first article is by the Rector of the Holy Family Province (Rwanda) Eugène Niyonzima on the relevance of the Pallottine charism with its foundation in theology, christology, mariology and ecclesiology with the purpose of carrying out the mis- sion and apostolate in today’s world. Vittorina d’Imperio, sister of the Congregation of the Roman Pal- lottines, presents a research on the Pallottine charism centered on the identity of the charism that finds in Christ, Apostle of the Eternal Fa- ther, the reason for the apostolate. This perspective has been confirmed especially by St. John Paul II and Francis who, in other words, indicates a charism in communion with the Church and at her service. Rodolfo Pedro Capalozza, Rector of the Argentine Region, writes about discernment, a theme very dear to , also from Ar- gentina. Faith and belonging to the Church cannot be imposed. In the contemporary world, dialogue in view of personal and community dis- cernment are necessary aspects of evangelization. The Pallottine char- ism, as part of this synodal process, is a great contribution to evangeli- zation, especially among young people who ask the Church for this openness and sensitivity to the culture in which we are. Fabian Silveira, Vice Rector of the Region of St. Vincent Pallotti (Uruguay), makes a parallelism with the kaleidoscope to reflect on the

The foundation of the life and apos- tolate of St. Vincent Pallotti was the Easter of the Lord who gave and supported all his initiatives for the good of neighbor and the Church. The biographies also reflect the time and circumstance in which it was written, yet the experience of is a reality that goes beyond culture and time, but manifests itself concretely in a given circumstance. Maria Dhanaraj Thivyarajan, member of the Indian Province of Our Lady of Health, presents the first part of her research on the concept of theater in St. Vincent Pallotti. The theme is new in Pallottine research and shows us that the negative criticism of the scenic representation considered by St. Vincent Pallotti is understood in its context. The fol- lowers of St. Vincent Pallotti have been able to develop this point, through education in schools, faculties, parishes, a positive concept of theater. Peter Ndubuisi Ugwueguegulem, licentiate in canon law, member of the Sacred Heart of Province (Germany), writes about the Pal- lottine apostolate related to the theme of baptism and for this reason it is universal. The Second Vatican Council confirmed the perspective of St. Vincent Pallotti and his prophetic vision on the protagonism of the laity in evangelization. However, every human being is called to pro- claim God his Creator. Thus the call becomes even more universal be- cause it is about every human creature. This is the Pallottine anthropol- ogy. Gildo Bumane Naene Nhone, a member of the Province of Santa Maria (Brazil), a missionary in Mozambique, presents some aspects of Pallottine ecclesiology, especially the concept of the universal apostolate following the example of Christ the Apostle of the Eternal Father and Our Lady in the Upper Room. The call of all the faithful and the involvement of the apostolic works organized by the communities is a fundamental aspect of the Pallottine charism. On January 14, 2020 a symposium on the Eucharistic apostolate in Mother Anna Sardiello was held in San Prisco (EC). After the wel- come greeting of the Archbishop of Capua, Msgr. Salvatore Visco, Mother Angelina Monaco, Superior General of the Eucharistic Sisters spoke about the life, works and actuality of the Sisters; Denilson Geraldo, member of the General Council of the SAC presented the

theme of the Eucharist in the charism of St. Vincent Pallotti; Edoardo Scognamiglio presented the theme of Eucharistic reparation in Mother Anna Sardiello; Antonio di Nardo presented the juridical process of the diocesan inquiry of the . A symposium on Church and dialogue, promoted by the Pallottine Faculty of Theology in Mysore (India), on the occasion of the pilgrimage of the relics of Elizabeth Sanna in India, was held on February 15-18, 2020. John Peter Lazaar, director of the faculty, opened the symposium, followed by the greeting sent by the President of the Union of Catholic Apostolate, Donatella Acerbi. Mons. Stephen Antony Pillai, bishop of Tutticorin, spoke about Church and dialogue; Augustine Kolencherry spoke about Elisabetta Sanna, an active member of UAC marked by the Pallottine charisma; Dominic Vas on dialogue as a connecting bridge, ladder of ascent, means to reach the other; Vincent Furtado on the Church in dialogue, towards a synthesis: mission and dialogue for salvation. After that, we present thirteen communications by different au- thors on issues of great importance for the deepening of Pallottine cha- risma: the Pallottine charism, an appeal to live the spirit of unity and mission in the Church; reflections on the direction in the SAC; a memory of Jean Bertrand Etoundi on the second anniversary of his death; the homilies of the triduum days in preparation for the feast of St. Vincent Pallotti (January 22, 2020); the letter of the Alumni of the Pontifical Seminary of Propaganda Fide to Pallotti; the homily on the feast of Fr. Richard Henkes (21 February 2020); the letter of Pentecost of the Pallottine Roman and Missionary Sisters for the years 2019- 2020; the identification of the synodality in the light of the Pallottine cenacle; a reflection on Pallotti and cholera. We also publish reviews of two books, one written by Rector General Nampudakam and the biography of José Maria Maimone, bishop of the diocese of Umuarama (Brazil). In conclusion, we publish the texts of Apostles Today, for the months January-June 2020 that in this year deal with the theme of the care of creation on the inspiration of the encyclical Laudato Sì of Pope Francis.

Therefore, the new format of the journal “Apostolato Universale” is consolidated with this issue that we present to readers with a thematic and universal diversity that makes us see the richness of the Pallottine charism for the Church. In the Pallottine Family, the research on the charism does not stop in some points, but interdisciplinarity, scienti- ficity, pastoral and missionary work find in the charism a strength that comes from God himself. N. 50 of the journal “Apostolato Universale” presents these themes through our publication.
