Clearly, our diocese is blessed with a strong foundation of support from which the ever-renewed vitality of our faith continues to spring forth. I am grateful to Bishop Edward U. Kmiec for the countless ways he helped strengthen the Foundation during his tenure in Bualo. While I present this 2011-2012 Stewardship Report for the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bualo, it serves as a tribute to Bishop Kmiec with inspiring stories of the faithful made possible this past year under his leadership. I also oer special thanks to our donors and volunteers, our Foundation trustees and sta. United in the One Body of Christ, we work together to educate, to minister, and to care for one another as Jesus taught us. I invite you to learn more about the Foundation of Your Faith on the pages that follow. May we all be encouraged and inspired to join in responding to the needs of the people of God in the Diocese of Bualo. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Richard J. Most are in the Buffalo collection in the Grosvenor Room, and as they are frequently used for genealogy research, cannot be borrowed or removed from the room. This collection has largely been created from kind donations, and we do not have every year for every school. Many of the early Buffalo high schools also published student literary journals, and some include lists of students. These and other relevant publications, such as alumni directories, are listed in this guide by the school name under High Schools. Some of the college yearbooks and alumni directories are stored in our Closed Stacks. They can be retrieved in minutes and the staff is happy to do so. Elementary, grammar and middle schools? There are a few in our collection; see first section below. School #51 published a yearbook called the Broadcaster. Junior High Yearbooks are listed with the High School Yearbooks. Where ELSE can I find yearbooks? Try contacting the school, if it is still in existence. Many keep archival collections pertaining to their own history, often as part of the school’s library.

  • MSM Focus / Spring/Summer 2008
Guardian Angel Scholarships Take Flight Five new scholarships will be awarded thanks to the generous response by alumnae to our plea for scholarship support. One of our “guardian angels” shared her story with us: My husband and I were looking to increase our yearly donations this year as we felt we have not given as much as we'd like to charitable causes in past years. We thought about potential places to Focus contribute and I prayed and reflected on this topic. Then I saw the guardian angel article in the Focus last MSM newsletter and presented it to my husband along with my reasons for wanting to contribute to this program. Right away he was in full support! I had always known I wanted to attend MSM -- even in grade school. It was the only school to which I applied as an 8th grader. I had been to many MSM musicals, craft shows, and other functions in those grade school years and the Mount just felt like home. However, it was expensive (although not as expensive as it is today!) and my parents could not really afford it. I did receive some scholarships but I still had to participate in the "work study program" after school. So while most of the other students got on a bus right after school, I cleaned classrooms a few days per week during my first three years. It was a small price to pay to be able to attend this school. While in school I learned a great deal about myself and felt totally prepared for my university experience The Alumnae Newsletter of all in the comfort of a loving environment surrounded by my dear friends.
