From which ancestor of Noah do they descend? May their roots be found in the ancient Miidle East? Does the Bible —God's precious Word — have anything to say with regard to the very talented German peoples and their ancient roots? Or does God ignore major nations in His Word? We shall certainly see! Could God's Word contain prophecies denouncing Egypt, Libya or Arabia, but contain nothing about German? This is a nation of about 80 millions jammed into 356,854 km2. It has large cities - Berlin (3.9 millions), Hamburg (1.6 millions), Munich (1.3 millions) and Cologne (0.9 millions). Britain has 57 millions, France 56 millions and Poland 38 millions. Its export drive and power is unsurpassed, dwarfing other European nations - $360 billion compared to France with $170 billion, Britain with $145 billion, Italy with $129 billion and Netherlands with $103 billion. In 1990 the total domestic product in billions was $1,077, France $762, Britain $755 and Italy $754. In the same year, Germany's total production as a percentage of the European Union was: electricity 29%, crude steel 26%, all exports 30% and cars 35%. It was with great suddeness that Helmut Kohl brought Germany to reunification in 1990. With almost 80 million people, a formidable army and a potent export-driven economy, united Germany will again dominate Europe - an unnerving thought for some of its neighbours. And certainly a challenge to the American sponsored New World Order. Germany has its own plans for a European Order - one which it would like to see Europe dominate the New World Trading Order, rather than the North American plan to integrate the world's cultures and religions into one melting pot. Some are already addressing the problems now appearing between the four or five contenders for ownership of the New World Order1. It should also be realised that each of these players are wracked with different views and factions. Currently the various forces in competition to dominate and unite the world are co-operating in areas of mutual interest or similarities. But what will happen when there are severe differences and ideological/religious divergences? What if Europe begins to feel that its very identity is at stake? What will a powerful German-dominated Europe do then? The headlines have been screaming since German re-unification in 1990 with titles such as "THE NEW SUPERPOWER", "ANYTHING TO FEAR?", "GERMANY RISES AGAIN", "THE FOURTH REICH" and so forth. No one can overlook their contibutions to science, music and literature. Yet they have patterns of national behaviour which has caused terrible suffering for others over the centuries? Why are there so many similarities between the Germans and the Assyrians? This book contends with accepted histories that the Assyrians just simply disappeared into thin air and that no trace may be found of them. I simply do not accept such dogma! Why? For God's inspired, sacred and eternal Word predicts that in these Last Days the Assyrians will once more be a power to be reckoned with. Barton-Payne, famous for his superb Encyclopedia of Biblical Prophecy admits that the prophecies concerning Assyria are yet future.2 Another author, Arthur Bloomfield, who wrote Last Days likewise recognizes that the prophecies relating to Babylon and Assyria are yet future, but does not know who they are today. A.B. Davidson, author of Old Testament Prophecy admits that the prophecy of Micah 5:6 "represented the Assyrian as existing in the time of the Messiah", but unfortunately concludes that the interpretation should be allegorical, not literal!3 Given the above, let us explore ancient history and trace the migrations of the Assyrians to their modern locations, employing many quotes so as to inculcate this knowledge into the mind of the reader by being backed up by the historical record. Every attempt will be made to detail the fine grains of the historical record into a solid rock of essential knowledge. Then, let us see what their incredible future holds. Happy reading! CHAPTER ONE MYSTERIOUS ORIGINS OF THE ASSYRIANS May Assur, son of Shem and grandson of Noah, a giant of Biblical history, be identified with a contemporary, prominent historical character? Let us peer into the pages of history, accepting the dating methods of historians and hypothesize on the most probable personage of that age. SARGON THE GREAT The rise of powerful banking and financial centres ... big corporations ... fascisitic totalitarian governments ... super monarchies ... they all had their origins during the life of one of the most extraordinary and influential men of world history - Sargon the Great! He was the first war-lord of the Assyrian records with the name of Sharru(m)-kin, better known to us as Sargon and was regarded by the "Assyrians as the most mighty and famous of all kings".i Sargon means "True King" or "the king is legitimate", and is the Akkadian equivalent of the Hebrew word Melchizedek. One of his successors was Shar-kali-sharri, meaning "king of all kings" (cp. Revelation 19:16)ii. Who was this controversial figure - the world's first post-flood warlord? Why is he at the centre of understanding soon- coming changes in Germany that will usher in a New Order in Europe contrawise to the American-sponsored New World Order? How is it that he is critically linked to such giants in history as Napoleon ... Julius Caesar ... Hitler ... and others? More importantly, why should you, in our technologically advanced, materialistic world, a stone's throw away from the 21st century, bother about such a seemingly remote figure in the pages of ancient history? The year is approximately 2260BC. And a small bundle of human flesh, almost obscured in a straw basket, floatas down the great river Euphrates, the very cradle of civilisation. And as it does so, in the early morning hours, one feels certain that the abandoned infant is doomed for a very short entrance on the stage of humanity. The child has barely the strength to cry. Cold, shivering.

PETER BUCHHOLZ Religious Foundations of Group Identity in Prehistoric Europe: The Germanic Peoples Any reader of Heimskringla ("circle of the earth"), the history of the kings of Norway by the great 13th century Icelandic writer Snorri Sturluson, will be struck by the enormous weight which the author attaches to religion. This refers both to Christianity and to pagan phenomena which preceded and even co-existed with it for some time. Snorri's work should, in my view, be ascribed a relatively high source value, if only because it is demonstrably based on older traditions either fixed in poetry or transmitted as oral prose. Öral tradition is of course not the topic of the present paper (cf. Buchholz 1980; Buchholz 1991), but the preservation of such traditions alone, many of which contain religious material, does indeed show that society or parts of it attached sufficient importance to such phenomena as to commit them to memory, parchment, runic signs or pictorial representation. The last scribe or "author" may of course have had considerable antiquarian interests, as is evident e.g. in some of the mythic poems of the Elder Edda, but such interests cannot be regarded as the cause for the existence of the myth, but only as one of the reasons for its preservation. We shall hopefully glimpse something of the role of myth in Germanic societies in the course of my paper. Leaving Myth aside for the moment, I want to stress that ÖN prose material, including Heimskringla, shows a marked interest in the concrete manifestations of cult (which, for paganism as seen through Christian eyes at least, definitely includes magic) and belief.

TUE A ERICANI LAW REGISTER FOUNDED 1852. UNIERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA DEPART=ENT OF LAW VOL. {4 0 - S'I DECEMBER, 1902. No. 12. THE GERMAN CIVIL CODE. (Das Biirgerliche Gesetzbuch.) SOURCES-PREPARATION-ADOPTION. The magnitude of an attempt to codify the German civil. laws can be adequately appreciated only by remembering that for more than fifteefn centuries central Europe was the world's arena for startling political changes radically involv- ing territorial boundaries and of necessity affecting private as well as public law. With no thought of presenting new data, but that the reader may properly marshall events for an accurate compre- hension of the irregular development of the law into the modem and concrete results, it is necessary to call attention to some of the political- and social factors which have been potent and conspicuous since the eighth century. Notwithstanding the boast of Charles the Great that he was both master of Europe and the chosen pr6pagandist of Christianity and despite his efforts in urging general accept- ance of the Roman law, which the Latinized Celts of the western and southern parts of his titular domain had orig- THE GERM AN CIVIL CODE. inally been forced to receive and later had willingly retained, upon none of those three points did the facts sustain his van- ity. He was constrained to recognize that beyond the Rhine there were great tribes, anciently nomadic, but for some cen- turies become agricultural when not engaged in their normal and chief occupation, war, who were by no means under his control. His missii or special commissioners to those people were not well received and his laws were not much respected.

  • The Sons of Keturah – Islam in Prophecy
mark h lane www.biblenumbersforlife.com THE SONS OF KETURAH – ISLAM IN PROPHECY Is the Prophet Mohammed in Scripture? Yes he is. He is called the 'Blessed Guide'. But he is no blessing. The Biblical account of Keturah will explain this. There was a marriage problem between Abraham and Sarah. We don't know if due to her age Sarah lost interest or rebuffed Abraham for other reasons, but we know they stopped sleeping together. To meet his physical and emotional needs, Abraham took a concubine named Keturah and fathered children by her. Some translations of Genesis 25 verse 1 say “Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah”. This is a mistranslation. The Hebrew word in this verse is ‘ishshah’ which means ‘woman’. It can mean ‘wife’ in some contexts but not in this context. We know Keturah was not the wife of Abraham because it is written in verse 5 and verse 6: “Abraham left everything to Isaac. But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the East”. The Hebrew word is ‘piylegesh’ and it has the unmistakable meaning of ‘concubine’ or ‘paramour’. The image above is of a belly-dancer, a harlot of Arabia. You will notice the harlot has her face covered by a veil. According to the Bible, wearing a full-face veil is the mark of a harlot. Concerning another harlot, Tamar, the Bible says: “she took off her widow’s clothes, covered herself with a veil to disguise herself, and then sat down at the entrance to Enaim…” (Genesis 38:13).

  • Turbulent and Mighty Continent
one Eu rope: Turbulent and Mighty Continent G reece was dying in the summer of 2013, and the drama around the event was as poignant as anything Sophocles has written. I was in Athens to deliver some lectures, but I was witnessing, if press reports were to be believed, what appeared to be the imminent downfall of the cradle of Western civilization and the disturbing inertia toward its plight displayed by the rest of the Eu ro pean family of nations. The pillars of a functioning state were shaking: inflation, unemployment, and the national debt were out of control, and law and order on the verge of collapse. The dying pro cess was confirmed when one day state TV was abruptly and in def initely suspended as employees could no longer receive their salaries. The last straw was the steady trickle of desperate refugees arriving from North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia swelling the ranks of those impoverished mi grants already pres ent. Squeezed by the economic crisis, the traditionally hospitable Greeks vented their frustrations at the unend ing numbers of refugees and immigrants as they sought aid and refuge; and the greater the economic woes, the greater the popularity of the Far Right parties and the more extreme their rhe toric of hate. Groups like the Golden Dawn, with their swastika-like emblem, were parading about dressed up as faux-Nazis, giving Nazi salutes, and even displaying pictures of Adolf Hitler. Their target this time around was the mainly Muslim refugee and immigrant community. Their message was simple and effective, and it was influencing how people thought about the subject: Muslims were not part of Eu ro pean identity, nor had they contributed anything to Western civili zation.

Since many of these publications have been written in German, and most German publications are not included in major, English language abstracting services, Anthropological Abstracts (AA) offers an opportunity and convenient source of information for anthropologists who do not read German to become aware of anthropological publications in German- speaking countries. Included are journal articles, monographs, anthologies, exhibition catalogs, yearbooks, etc., published in German. Occasionally, publications in English, or French, are included as well if the publisher is less well-known and when it is likely that the publication will not be noted abroad. The present printed volume of Anthropological Abstracts (AA) (2.2003) includes no. www-4 of the internet version (www.anthropology-online.de ’ Anthropological Abstracts ’ no. 4.2003); the printed version has about 30% additional material, however. Starting from the present volume the layout (size of script etc.) has been changed to ensure better readability. Some technical remarks This reference journal uses a combined and flexible approach of representation: While in most cases abstracts are supplied, for some anthologies and journals (e.g., Zeitschrift für Kulturaustausch, Kea) - because of space limitations - the Current Contents principle is applied, i.e.

Lucan’s Natural Questions: Landscape and Geography in the Bellum Civile Laura Zientek A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Washington 2014 Reading Committee: Catherine Connors, Chair Alain Gowing Stephen Hinds Program Authorized to Offer Degree: Classics © Copyright 2014 Laura Zientek University of Washington Abstract Lucan’s Natural Questions: Landscape and Geography in the Bellum Civile Laura Zientek Chair of the Supervisory Committee: Professor Catherine Connors Department of Classics This dissertation is an analysis of the role of landscape and the natural world in Lucan’s Bellum Civile. I investigate digressions and excurses on mountains, rivers, and certain myths associated aetiologically with the land, and demonstrate how Stoic physics and cosmology – in particular the concepts of cosmic (dis)order, collapse, and conflagration – play a role in the way Lucan writes about the landscape in the context of a civil war poem. Building on previous analyses of the Bellum Civile that provide background on its literary context (Ahl, 1976), on Lucan’s poetic technique (Masters, 1992), and on landscape in Roman literature (Spencer, 2010), I approach Lucan’s depiction of the natural world by focusing on the mutual effect of humanity and landscape on each other. Thus, hardships posed by the land against characters like Caesar and Cato, gloomy and threatening atmospheres, and dangerous or unusual weather phenomena all have places in my study. I also explore how Lucan’s landscapes engage with the tropes of the locus amoenus or horridus (Schiesaro, 2006) and elements of the sublime (Day, 2013).

Tel.: 224–6790 E-mail: [email protected]; homepage: http://kisebbsegkutato.tk.mta.hu I. Main duties of the research unit in 2017 In 2017, in addition to the research priorities in the mid-term development plan for 2016-2019 as well as to the original research commitments, the deepening of the new research directions continued that were outlined in 2013, focusing primarily on the minority competences and the interdisciplinary researches on identity politics, while the main research areas of the Institute – the Roma and other nationalities in Hungary, Jewish communities, Hungarians living in the neighbouring states, and migrants in Hungary – have remained constant. The main results were published in various important monographs, edited books, and publications in foreign languages in prestigious journals. In cooperation with partner institutes, the monograph on the first results of GeneZys 2015 could be published, and a new, representative survey could be conducted on the main features of national identity in Hungary. As an extended continuation of the previous research among the Hungarians living in the UK, a new research was done about the situation of Hungarians in Germany. Researchers also attended a high number of international conferences which contributed to disseminate the research results to wider audiences. The roundtable discussion with prominent writers about capturing ethnic identity in both literature and science at the Researcher’s Night brought significant interest, too. Researchers successfully obtained two grants of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH, formerly OTKA): one major research projects aims to examine the trajectories, outcomes as well as the hidden costs of educational mobility in multi-ethnic context, while the other junior research project focuses on the attempts on the institutionalization of ethnic economy among Hungarians in Romania and Slovakia.
