Basic principles of multilingual product classification for electronic commerce
In the context of global electronic commerce, standardized multilingual access structures are required for classification schemes for products and services in order to be able to efficiently find catalogues of products and services and the products/services they list. For the sake of making existing classification schemes mutually compatible from the point of view of establishing concordances between product and material as well as services groups, basic principles are required concerning the structure, for listing characteristics, with respect to the use of attributes, which shall match the market structure as much as possible. Moreover, such classification schemes must be flexible to be easily adaptable to the changes occurring on the markets.
