The Mcneese Cowboys THE MCNEESE C2010-11OWBOYS SEASON FINAL REPORT Stephan Martin The Cowboys packed them in the for their NIT game against Boston College in Burton Coliseum. The McNeese State Cowboys wrapped up their 2010-11 season in front of 5,035 fans in Burton Coli- seum in a first round game of the NIT. The Cowboys had won the regular season Southland Conference title and had earned a berth in the post season NIT. Preston David The Cowboys dropped the NIT game to Boston College but still finished the season at 21-12, the best record at the school since the 2001-02 campaign. It was the second time in the school’s history for Mc- Neese to host a NIT game (the other was in the 1985-86 season against Dayton). McNeese also posted one of its best ever home records, winning its first 14 games and going 15-2 on the year. The Cowboys were 11-5 in league play. Patrick Richard, who will be back next season, led the Cowboys in scoring and was a first team all- conference and an all-district pick. He averaged 16.1 points per game and ranked second in rebounding with a 6.4 mark and in assists with a 2.5 average. P. J. Alawoya, the only player in the Southland Conference to average a double double for the entire year, led the Cowboys in rebounding with a 10.3 mark and also scored 10.2 points per game. P. J. Alawoya Diego Kapelan was second in scoring at 14.9 per game and Stephan Martin was third with 10.4 points all-SLC a contest. C. J. Collins led the team in assists with 3.5 per game COACH: Dave Simmons completed his fifth year at McNeese with a 70 -83 record.....he earned his first league title as a head coach and he was named the Southland Conference coach of the year as well as the National Associaton of Basketball Coaches coach of the year in District 23. SENIORS: five Cowboys completed their final year - Diego Kapelan, C. J. Collins, Preston Da- vid, P. J. Alawoya and Stephan Martin....all had been with the program for four years UP THE RANKS: Diego Kapelan, who scored his 1,000th career point earlier in the year (vs Miami), completed his career with 1405 points.
