Shakespeare said 111\1:usic when soft voices die, vibrates in the memory" - and so the music of Irving Burgie, like all great composers, will go on and on.

Born in , Mr. Burgie is a brilliant composer-lyricist, whose music is both nationally and interna.tiona.lly famous. He started his musical career as an entertainer, using the name of Lord Burgess; in fact he opened the Blue Angel Club in Chicago, and was held over for two years. While working as an entertainer he began writing. It went so well that he decided to quit as a performer and concentrate on writing.

He has written over thirty Harry Bela.fonte hits including such songs as "," "Dolly Dawn, " "I Do Adore Her," "Land of Sea and Sun, " and "Island in the Sun" which he wrote for Twentieth Century Fox production by the same name, He has written for the Kingston Trio, and several other groups and personalities.

He started writing for Belafonte in 1955, then wrote the calypso album for him which started the big trend. This was the first album by an artist that sold over a million copies, 1vir. Burgie 1s songs have ap peared on various albums to the tune of thirty-five million sides over the past eight years.

Mr. Burgie, who captures the mood and rhythm of the islands more than any other writer around, is the son of a West Indian mother and an American father. He is a frequent visitor to Barbados (his mother's home), and most of the other West Indian Islands. He has also travelled extensively throughout Europe, West Africa, Israel, the Scandinavian countries, and Mexico.
