TOWARDS STRENGTHENED GOVERNANCE OF THE SHARED TRANSBOUNDARY NATURAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE LAKE OHRID REGION Baseline Assessment report of the Lake Ohrid region – Albania (available online at http://whc.unesco.org/en/lake-ohrid-region) Annex XXIII Bibliography on cultural values and heritage, agriculture and tourism aspects of the Lake Ohrid region prepared by Luisa de Marco, Maxim Makartsev and Claudia Spinello on behalf of ICOMOS. January 2016 BIBLIOGRAPHY1 2015 The present bibliography focusses mainly on the cultural values and heritage, agriculture and tourism aspects of the Lake Ohrid region (LOR). It should be read in conjunction to the Baseline Assessment report prepared in a joint collaboration between ICOMOS and IUCN (available online at http://whc.unesco.org/en/lake-ohrid-region) The bibliography includes all the relevant titles from the digital catalogue of the Albanian National Library for the geographic terms connected to LOR. The bibliography includes all the relevant titles from the systematic catalogue since 1989 to date, for the categories 9-908; 91-913 (4/9) (902. Archeology; 903. Prehistory. Prehistoric remains, antiquities. 904. Cultural remains of the historic times. 908. Regional studies. Studies of a place. 91. Geography. The exploration of the land and of specific places. Travels. SERJANI1, H. HALLACl', A. NEZIRAJ1 & A. HALLACl' ABSTRACT Albania is one of the most karst-developed countries in Europe. Karst phenomena are related to soluted carbonate formations which cover of about 7300 km2 of Albanian territory and with sulfate evaporates rocks, which outcrop of about 500 km2. Typically alpine relief of average altitude 708 m above the sea level and high horizontal splitting are favorable for karst development. Karst and geological sites of karst origin are wide spread mainly in Albanian Alps and in Ionian zone. In Albanides there are determined surfaces and under ground karst forms which belong to the Neo-Pliocene-Quaternary age and deep karst forms belonging to the paleokarst in old formations. -

DOI: 10.5772/intechopen.68899 Provisional chapter Chapter 4 The Unknown Southernmost Glaciers of Europe The Unknown Southernmost Glaciers of Europe Emil Gachev Emil Gachev Additional information is available at the end of the chapter Additional information is available at the end of the chapter http://dx.doi.org/10.5772/intechopen.68899 Abstract This chapter presents the perennial firn/ice patches in the mountains of the Balkan Peninsula. The detailed study of these features in the last decades has proved that many of them are, in fact, small glaciers. They have survived without complete melting since the end of the Little Ice Age, and thus the time of their formation must have not later than in 14–15th century AD. At present, the existence of 16 small glaciers is suggested (and proved for some of them) in three mountains throughout the peninsula: Prokletije (mainly in Albania), Durmitor (in Montenegro) and Pirin (in Bulgaria), the biggest num- ber being found in Prokletije. The two small glaciers (glacierets) in Pirin mountain are at present the southernmost glacial masses in Europe (the only located south of 42°N). Despite the registered warming of high mountain climate, small glaciers on the Balkan Peninsula have shown no trends towards shrinkage for the last 23 years. Keywords: small glaciers, snow patches, Pirin, Durmitor, Prokletije 1. Introduction Few mountains in Europe host classical glaciers at present: The Alps, the Great Caucasus range, the Scandinavian mountains, Polar Ural and the Pyrenees [1]. Apart from them, there are numerous small bodies of firn and ice in other mountain ranges across Europe which are still of a permanent character, with their mass moving down by gravity. -

UNDP ART GOLD ALBANIA PROGRAMME IDEASS INITIATIVE The second mission of “La Compagnia dei Parchi” and Federparchi for sustainable tourism in Albania Foreword 11th to 14th December 2006 The previous mission of the President of “La Compagnia dei Parchi” Mr. Roberto Di Vincenzo and the President of Federparchi Mr. Matteo Fusilli to Albania for the promotion of “La Compagnia dei Parchi” Innovation had been held on December, 11 to 14, 2006, in the framework of the IDEASS activities for the promotion of “La Compagnia dei Parchi” innovation in Albania. The first mission aimed at the promotion of the Italian Innovation La Compagnia dei Parchi (CdP) in Albania and followed the interest of the Albanian Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports, and Albanian Ministry of the Environment Forest and Water Administration to implement a successful strategy for Albanian Park management and development and for sustainable tourism initiatives. The Albanian Authorities expressed the will to support a cooperation project for sustainable tourism based on the experience of La Compagnia dei Parchi and proposed the realization of a common working table in order to explore the way to activate in Albania an innovative tourism product fostering economic local development. On May 24, 2007, according to the recommendations of the Albanian Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Water Administration and following the positive results of the mission to Albania of Italian experts of “La Compagnia dei Parchi” held on December 2006, was organized the first meeting of the Working Table for the promotion of Sustainable Tourism initiatives in Albania. -

Two new species are described and illustrated: Oxypoda (Baeoglena) rectacia spec. nov. (East Mediterranean, from South Greece to the Middle East) and O. (B.) derecta spec. nov. 1 JNTS No 46 / 2018 (XXIII) PUBLISHED BY THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF ALBANIA JNTS JOURNAL OF NATURAL AND TECHNICAL SCIENCES 2018 (1) XXIII (46) 2 JNTS No 46 / 2018 (XXIII) 3 JNTS No 46 / 2018 (XXIII) CORE-MANTLE BOUNDARY VELOCITY FIELD RECOVERING FROM A FOUR-CENTURY GEOMAGNETIC FIELD MODEL Klaudio PEQINI Department of Physics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Tirana, Albania Epoka University, Faculty of Architecture and Engineering, Tirana, Albania Bejo DUKA Department of Physics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Tirana, Albania ____________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT The present paper provides information about a new method of the velocity field calculation at the Core-Mantle Boundary (CMB) of the Earth when both the radial geomagnetic field and its secular variation (SV) are known. The fluid flow in the outer core is considered to be under the frozen-flux approximation. The simplified induction equation for the radial component is here involved. The velocity field is separated into a toroidal and poloidal part. The radial geomagnetic field and its secular variation and the toroidal and poloidal ingredients of the velocity field are expanded in spherical harmonics series. The maximum degrees of these expansions are chosen in such a way to match the number of unknown coefficients of the velocity field expansion with the number of algebraic equations. The Gauss coefficients of the geomagnetic field spherical harmonic expansion and their SV are taken from the gufm1 model. The system of equations is then inverted by a standard matrix inversion procedure. The recovered maps of the velocity field show a pronounced feature under the South Atlantic and Indonesian archipelago and other features that agree with those reported by other authors.
