Mr. Kum-jun Park, the designer of the main poster, explained, MAY 2011. NO.09 04·05 FOCUS MOUNTAIN CLIMBING IN INCHEON A SPRINGTIME WALK ALONG THE Green Axis MAY 2011. NO.09 06·07 Spring comes as silently as it disappears. You know it is here when the flowers bloom and the trees sprout leaves under the bright sunshine. But catch it while you can, before summer swallows it up, especially if you are a mountain lover. Gyeyangsan Mountain lies at the start of what has come to be known as the “green axis”of a meandering mountain range that runs through Incheon. The vitality of the land runs through this green axis, making for unparalleled hikes under the sunshine in the soft spring wind. The month of March often wanders between winter and spring. The piercingly cold wind softens and the sun gently warms as the days grow longer. March renews us after the long winter cold. It is the time to get your heart pounding again. It is the time for climbing the mountains of Incheon again. Incheon is home to a green axis of mountains that make up the Hannam Range. The names of the peaks are familiar to residents: Gyeyangsan, Cheonmasan, Wonjeoksan, Hambongsan, Manwolsan, Mansusan, Geomasan, Gwanmosan, Obongsan, Munhaksan, Cheongryangsan, and Bongjaesan. Nearly 53㎞ of mountains and hills, all springing up with energy and vitality, providing marked natural relief to the citizens of a city of gray buildings. FOCUS Gyeyangsan, Cheonmasan, and completed in 2009, after about two years of construction, as Wonjeoksan Mountains part of an effort to reestablish a contiguous connection Our mountain journey begins at Gyeyangsan Mountain. Its between green axis activities in Incheon. It leads us to 395m make it Incheon’s highest. We follow the climbing path Cheonmasan Mountain and the base of our next hike. near Gyeongin Women’s College. The higher we climb, the Cheonmasan’s high and narrow mountain path of stones is a better we feel. Our minds are soon refreshed. An hour and a tough climb. But it feels good somehow to conquer that rough half later we reach the summit. We soak up the picturesque mountain road. You find the Cheongna Free Economic Zone scenery in all directions: Yeongjongdo and Ganghwado Islands some time after setting out. Although still under construction, to the west; downtown Incheon to the south: and Bucheon, the Economic Zone will shine someday. Gimpo, and Seoul visible afar. Passing through the Manwolsan Tunnel, up the main road toward the outer-ring circular road, via Mansusan Mountain, sits Gwanmosan Mountain. It offers a spectacular view over Incheon Park, which always awakens residents’ childhood memories of picnics with mom and dad. Munhaksan, Cheongryangsan, and Bongjaesan Mountains Standing in the central area of Incheon, Munhaksan Mountain, like other mountains in Incheon, is not really all that high. And yet, climbing some minutes along its soft ridge, the great story of Incheon unfolds before our eyes. The deep blue sea and the mysteriously floating islands are seen in the distance. The spring sunshine and soft wind breeze in from the West Sea. To one side sits Songdo International City, a true spectacle: a cityscape that seemingly changes on a daily basis, the imaginary becoming reality before our very eyes, a true testament to Incheon’ s long success story. Indeed, Incheon’ s history has always been one of national development. In the days of yore the mountain held Munhaksan Fortress, traces of which can be seen on the hillside and towards the top. Although military facilities still look down on the West Sea, the view from Munhaksan Mountain provides an inspiring transition, from a place our ancestors defended against foreign invaders, to an area bustling with international business and trade. Not far from Munhaksan Mountain, we encounter Cheongryangsan Mountain. The two mountains, separated by MAY 2011. Siderostictae were revealed by morphological and molecular studies. The morphological characteristics of Korean Carex siderosticta Hance, which is a type species of sect. Siderostictae, was first reviewed in comparison with previous records in order to identify the difference. Then the distribution map of this species was formulated through previous floral literatures and voucher specimens. Although the leaf shape which is represented by length/width ratio showed a great variation depending on habitat condition, the rhizome creeping patterns, the presence of hair on the surface leaf margin and perigynium were shown to be good diagnostic characters to define delimitation of species level. The results from molecular study supported C. ciliatomarginata Nakai should be ranked independently on species level. Key words - Sect. • Leisure Port Development in the Incheon Area: Concepts and Benchmarks
JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS AND TRADE 5 Volume 2, Number I, 2004, pp. 5-45 Leisure Port Development in the Incheon Area: Concepts and Benchmarks Marc L. Miller' and Sung-Gwi Kim" ABSTRACT In concert with an ambitious national agenda that emphasizes free trade and globalization, lncheon Metropolitan City is taking the first steps toward reinventing itself to become a twenty-first century "Pentaport" with integrated Seaport, Airport, Technoport, Business Port, and Leisure Port components. The lncheon Pentaport transformation-projected to be complete by 2020-will entail significant industrial, sociological, and institutional modification. Leisure Port objectives can be achieved through responsible planning attuned to the ideal of sustainable development and by empirical studies of lncheon tourism and leisure dynamics. International benchmarks of leisure port success are found in Sydney, Australia; Vancouver, Canada; and San Diego, USA, among seven other cosmopolitan cities. Growth estimations for coastal ferry passengers; beach use; recreational vessels and yachts in the lncheon region are encouraging. lncheon Leisure Port development of ten amenity destinations will require equal and multidisciplinary attention to questions of tourism design and tourism impacts. Important issues will concern environmental quality, clean shipping practices, the proper balance of modem and traditional amenities and attractions, trade-offs of cultural homogeneity and cultural diversity, and creative destination branding and marketing, among others. Keywords: lncheon, Leisure, Leisure Port, Pentaport, Tourism, Sustainable Development. • The Hangul Characters
The Korean language is classified as a member of the Ural-Altaic family (other members of this family include the Mongolian, Finnish, and Hungarian languages.) Until the early 1400s, most documents were written in classical Chinese characters (known in Korean as Hanja). As the idiographs are difficult to learn, only the educated people could read and write. King Sejong, the 4th ruler of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), set up a special committee of scholars in 1443 to create a new writing system specifically suited to the Korean language. The result was Hangul (meaning 'the one script'). It originally contained 28 symbols, although 4 have dropped out of use. The alphabet has 10 vowels and 14 consonants. The consonants represent the simplified outlines of the parts of the mouth and tongue used to pronounce them. The vowels are associated with elements of the philosophy of the Book of Changes. In 1994, Discovery magazine described Hangul as the most logical language writing system in the world. The simplicity of Hangul led Korea to become one of the most literate countries in the world. U.S. novelist Pearl Buck said that Hangul is the simplest writing system in the world and likenedKing Sejong to Leonardo da Vinci. Even though Hangul is a system of phonetic symbols, it is categorized as new level of feature system, the first and the only in the world. On Oct. 1, 1997, UNESCO designated Hunminjeongeum as world archive property. Koreans commemorate the creation of Hangul each year on October 9. The Hangul Characters Before you begin learning the language, you should take some time to practice writing Hangul.

  • An Agenda for the Incheon Free Economic Zone: Developing Quad Ports and Quad Parks*
JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS AND TRADE 85 Volume 1, Number 1, 2003, pp. 85-105 An Agenda for The Incheon Free Economic Zone: Developing Quad Ports and Quad Parks* ll-Soo Jun** The Korean government designated three districts in the /ncheon Metropolitan City as the first "Free Economic Zone " in August 2003. This paper discusses recent developments of and challenges to the Incheon FEZ, and proposes future tasks to accomplish Korea 's goal to be a business and logistics hub in Northeast Asia. The master plan of the Incheon FEZ encompasses all elements of "Quad Ports and Quad Parks " in major development projects in three districts. Developing "Quad Ports and Quad Parks " in the newly introduced Incheon FEZ is expected to take on critical significance in the next decades by completely transforming the Korean economy and society. However, the success of the Incheon FEZ relies on massive reforms, which requires major and fundamental changes in both mindsets and strategies. First, the Korean government must develop its full potential by maximizing the strengths of the Capital Region. Second, the Incheon International Airport must be a principal driver of economic growth by improving accessibility to regional and global markets. Third, the New Incheon port should be developed in time for the Incheon FEZ to maximize its potential. I. INTRODUCTION The business environment in Northeast Asia is expected to undergo greater change in a next decade than it did in a last century. In particular, as China has successfully transformed itself into a global center of production and sourcing, most global firms are searching for opportunities to trade with and/or invest in China.

  • Disruptive Technologies Transforming Urban Mobility? the Role of the Ecobee Urban Maglev System in the Seoul Traffic Vision 2030, South Korea
ТРАНСПОРТНЫЕ СИСТЕМЫ И ТЕХНОЛОГИИ ОРИГИНАЛЬНЫЕ СТАТЬИ 115 TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY ORIGINAL STUDIES DOI 10.17816/transsyst201843s1115-123 © M. Hekler1, J. Klühspies2 1 Institute CERM (Center for Education & Research on Mobility) 2 The International Maglev Board (Deggendorf, Germany) DISRUPTIVE TECHNOLOGIES TRANSFORMING URBAN MOBILITY? THE ROLE OF THE ECOBEE URBAN MAGLEV SYSTEM IN THE SEOUL TRAFFIC VISION 2030, SOUTH KOREA The dynamics and extent of disruptive technologies have been very well developed in Asian cities by the beginning of the 21st century, and are becoming particularly future- oriented. It also appears that urban mobility strategies in Asia are hardly slowed by resistance such as seen in the European context, where holding on to existing systems is the norm. The effects of accelerated mobility strategies in Asia are already apparent compared to what may be expected in Europe. So one could ask, which innovation processes will allow mobility to further develop? How will urban transport systems likely change in the future to minimize adverse impacts of current forms of mobility? In looking forward, any implementation of innovative mobility strategies heavily depends on spatial structures, transport networks and technologies as well as a political planning and decision-making. In Asia, concepts of transport and innovative transportation concepts (such as Rotem’s Ecobee Urban Maglev) are developing with considerable promise, which, if successful, can turn into trendsetters with considerable future relevance on a global scale. Aim: The aim is to identify relevant effects of new mobility strategies on cities and to analyze to what extent so called disruptive transport technologies are considered. The city of Seoul with its transport strategy 2030 and the disruptive maglev system Ecobee serves as an example.
