EA SPORTS and EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League

The EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League was designed by BC Soccer, the Whitecaps FC and soccer community representatives, to create a new high performance level of competition and support player development at the provincial, professional and national team level. It will simplify scouting of top young players, provide an elevated level of competition and increase the chance for players fulfilling their potential and creates a dynamic new commercial property at the pinnacle of youth soccer in BC.

Eight founding franchises were announced in February 2011: • Metro Ford SC • Fusion FC • Fraser Valley Premier (formerly Magnuson Ford Mariners) • Mountain United FC • Coastal FC (formerly South Fraser FC) • Surrey United FC • Thompson Okanagan FC • Vancouver Island Wave

The first full season of competition began in February 2012 and continues from February through November each year. It will feature male and female divisions at the U-13 through U-18 levels, equating to approximately 1,500 players. For more information on the league: www.bcspl.ca

Scholarship Application Rules & Regulations

1) EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League will provide $4,000 total funding for 4 scholarships to participants from EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League clubs.

2) Each EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League graduating player (currently in their grade 12 year) who qualifies can apply for a $1,000 scholarship. Two male and two female recipients will be awarded.

3) Applicants must be registered and playing in the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League.

4) If an EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League club does not have teams providing appropriate player/participants, then clubs do have the option to submit applications from non-EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League players in their club and/or partner clubs.

5) The qualifications of recipients have to be: a) Proceeding from Grade 12 in 2017 to any university or other post-secondary institution in British Columbia as approved by the Scholarship Committee b) Must have a minimum of “B” grade / 3.0 GPA average c) Must have demonstrated good citizenship, personality, leadership and participation in community soccer activities

6) All applicants must follow the scholarship application process outlined in this policy in order to be considered for an EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League scholarship. The BCSPL reserves the right to forego processing any applications from applicants who do not follow the procedure outlined below.

7) The funds may be withheld until such time the recipient provides proof of payment of tuition either the first semester or in full as well as proof of enrolment that he/she is attending any post-secondary institute approved by the Scholarship Committee.

8) A scholarship that is awarded, but not availed of within 2 years of the award winner’s high school graduation year will be deemed to be null and void. The aforementioned scholarship award will be then awarded to a new candidate the following year.

9) All scholarship applications must be received no later than 5:00pm on May 5, 2017.

10) All applications must contain three components: a) Submit a completed application form b) Two written references i) A letter of reference from your Principal or post-secondary Administrator certifying the candidate’s age, character and ability, as well as participation in school activities. ii) A personal letter of reference from family friend, coach or teacher regarding the candidate’s character. c) Submit a transcript of the student’s marks or a photocopy of the Permanent Record Card (if neither is available, a typed copy of the Permanent Record Card verified by the principal’s or secondary administrator’s signature will be accepted).

Applications must be supported by your EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League club Board of Governor or Technical Director. Please consult with your coach if you are not aware of who each of these people are.

Submission Details

2. Scholarships are conditional, in that the funds will be withheld until such time the recipient provides proof of payment either the first semester or in full and proof of enrolment that he/she is attending a post-secondary institute approved by the Scholarship Selection Committee.

3. Successful applicants will be posted on www.bcspl.ca on May 19, 2017.

4. The EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League Scholarship Committee will make presentations of the successful scholarship recipients in June 2016 at a time and date to be determined.
