Marian Mesrobian MacCurdy, retired professor and chair of the Department of Writing at Ithaca College, is currently visiting professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is also the author of The Mind’s Eye: Image and Memory in Writing About Trauma. Rusya, Fransa, Almanya ve diğer sömürgeci güçlerin Ermenileri kendi Ortadoğu hâkimiyeti idealleri yönünde kullanmaları en çok Ermenilere zarar vermiştir. İngiltere ve müttefiklerinin Ermenilere verdiği devlet kurma sözüne rağmen I.Dünya Savaşı’ndan sonra bu sözü tutmaması ve Ermenileri kendi kaderine terk etmesi Ermenileri, I.Dünya Savaşı’nda Türkler ile birlikte en çok zarar gören millet konumuna getirmiştir. Genocide Stickers
A lot has been written about the Genocide, and much continues to be written. The list of publications includes scientific documents, archival records, historical monographs, eyewitness memoirs, analytical articles and fiction. The issue of the Genocide is by nature a difficult one, and reading anything on this topic is not a pleasant activity by any means. Anyone picking up a book about the Genocide must have a convincing reason to justify to himself why he keeps turning the pages to read horrifying descriptions of death camps, why he keeps following the fate of orphans condemned to a certain death, and why each eyewitness memoir causes him to mentally place himself or his family at the center of those ominous events. Perhaps the most important reason is that in a universal tragedy, there is no individual pain. Misfortune does not embrace one person alone. All the deprivations and bitterness are shared, nothing is individual. When a person reads a book, whether it is fiction or a historical record, he is mentally transported to the time period being described or recreated. At the center of those terrible events, the reader becomes an eyewitness to crimes and a judge of the era. Today, we are obliged to read some of the narratives that the victims of the Genocide have experienced first-hand. Sharing their suffering in this way is the very least we can do. If only through silent reading, we must accompany those who were alone and rejected as they made their way to a certain death. They do not need this.

The Assassination of Mehmet Talaat (15 March 1921) and the Berlin Criminal Proceedings Against Soghomon Tehlirian (2/3 June 1921): Background, Context, Effect1
A HUNDRED YEARS AGO: THE ASSASSINATION OF MEHMET TALAAT (15 MARCH 1921) AND THE BERLIN CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS AGAINST SOGHOMON TEHLIRIAN (2/3 JUNE 1921): BACKGROUND, CONTEXT, EFFECT1 Tessa Hofmann A hundred years ago, on the late morning of March 15, 1921, the Armenian Soghomon Tehlirian (Soġomon T’ehlirean - Սողոմոն Թեհլիրեան; also: Soghomon Tehliryan; Soġomon T’ehlerean - Սողոմոն Թեհլերեան (1897-1960)) shot the former Ottoman Minister of the Interior (21 January 1913 to 4 February 1917), Minister of Finance (November 1914 to 4 February 1917) and head of government (Grand Vizier; 4 February 1917 to 8 October 1918), Mehmet Talaat (1874-1921) on Ber- lin’s Hardenbergstrasse. In an unusually short time by today’s standards, after two and a half months, the assassin was put on trial on 2 and 3 June of the same year at the jury court of Berlin District Court III (Landgericht Berlin III) in Berlin-Moabit. The trial lasted one and a half days, which was also unusually short. Obviously, the German or Prussian judiciary wanted to get rid of the accused and with him the subject of German-Turkish relations as quickly as possible. Tehlirian was acquitted on 3 June 1920, on the grounds of incapacity of guilt and was immediately deported from Germany. Political Background: the Armenian Question The killing of Talaat has its origin in the genocidally answered Armenian Question. This in turn originated in Article 61 of the Berlin Treaty (1878), which contained the obligation for immediate reforms in the “provinces inhabited by Armenians” and Ottoman accountability to the six major European Powers - France, Great Britain, Austria, Russia, Germany and Italy - of the time.

Rik Adriaans Budapest, March 29, 2018 CEU eTD Collection Abstract The last three decades have seen the socioeconomic collapse of Armenia occur simultaneously with a proliferation of media links to Los Angeles, the new capital of the nation’s global diaspora. This multi-sited ethnography analyzes how new cultural repertoires and moral appeals play out in increasingly mediatized life-worlds by tracing the circulation of images in and between these two locations. Highlighting how histories of rupture, from the Armenian Genocide to post-Soviet collapse, inform media engagements, the entanglement of time and images of the nation is explored. The first half of the thesis inquires into the iconic forms of pan-Armenian campaigns in relation to alliances between Los Angeles diaspora institutions and the post-Soviet oligarchic state. The second half examines how the global nation’s socioeconomic and symbolic inequalities are refracted in participatory visual media in Yerevan and Los Angeles. The case studies exemplify a distinction between a recognition-oriented diaspora, seeking justice for the tragedy of the 1915 Genocide but also aspiring to respectability in the US, and a developmental diaspora, driven to realize its visions of Armenia’s future in the present through a redistributive ethos.
