Morelia, Michoacán, México Global climate change represents one of the most important threats to wildlife populations. Amphibians, specifically salamanders, are particularly susceptible to the effects of a changing climate due to their restrictive physiological requirements and low vagility; however, little is known about which amphibian species are more vulnerable to climate change. Therefore, we aimed to forecast changes in the distribution of the mountain stream salamander, Ambystoma ordinarium, using different climate scenarios. Approximately 70 representative presence records were selected to model the current potential distribution and two scenarios based on 2070 climate projections (RCP 2.6 and RCP 8.5) using the MaxEnt algorithm and three global climate models (BCC-CSM1-1, CCSM4 and HadGEM2-ES). A total of three scenarios were simulated using the 10-percentile training presence as the threshold rule. For all scenarios, the average of the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the replicated runs was greater than 0.95 ± 0.005, representing good performance for the current and projected geographical distributions of A. -

Lizard populations found in insular environments may show ecological and morphological characteristics that differ from those living in continents, as a result of different ecological and evolutionary processes. In this study, we analyzed sexual dimorphism, reproduction, and diet in a population of the whiptail lizard, Aspidoscelis costata, from Isla Isabel, Nayarit, Mexico, sampled in 1977 and 1981. Males and females from Isla Isabel showed no sexual dimorphism in many morphological structures, such as snout-vent length (SVL), but they did in femur length (FL) and tibia length (TL). -

Species of Corallus are distributed from northern Central American to south- ern Brazil, including Trinidad and Tobago and islands of the south Caribbean. Xenosaurus Tzacualtipantecus. the Zacualtipán Knob-Scaled Lizard Is Endemic to the Sierra Madre Oriental of Eastern Mexico
Xenosaurus tzacualtipantecus. The Zacualtipán knob-scaled lizard is endemic to the Sierra Madre Oriental of eastern Mexico. This medium-large lizard (female holotype measures 188 mm in total length) is known only from the vicinity of the type locality in eastern Hidalgo, at an elevation of 1,900 m in pine-oak forest, and a nearby locality at 2,000 m in northern Veracruz (Woolrich- Piña and Smith 2012). Xenosaurus tzacualtipantecus is thought to belong to the northern clade of the genus, which also contains X. newmanorum and X. platyceps (Bhullar 2011). As with its congeners, X. tzacualtipantecus is an inhabitant of crevices in limestone rocks. This species consumes beetles and lepidopteran larvae and gives birth to living young. The habitat of this lizard in the vicinity of the type locality is being deforested, and people in nearby towns have created an open garbage dump in this area. We determined its EVS as 17, in the middle of the high vulnerability category (see text for explanation), and its status by the IUCN and SEMAR- NAT presently are undetermined. This newly described endemic species is one of nine known species in the monogeneric family Xenosauridae, which is endemic to northern Mesoamerica (Mexico from Tamaulipas to Chiapas and into the montane portions of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala). Evaluation of differential white blood cell (leukocyte) counts from thin blood smears is one way to gain this information, and this approach is increasingly being used by herpetologists to gauge the integrity of amphibian populations. This approach is especially useful in natural settings because amphibian leucocyte profiles can vary depending on biological and physiological processes, including those caused by environmental factors.
