Fresh from performances on some of the worlds biggest festivals and several appearances at the Defected In The House residency at Pacha, Ibiza Junior Jack & Kid Crème are one of the hottest acts in house music today. They’ll also be coming along for the ride. British based ‘it’ band Sam & The Womp will be making their Australian festival debut at this year’s Summadayze. An undiscovered island. An epic journey. An illustrious ship. Known just by its name and its logo, GALANTIS could be all or none of these things. A Google search only turns up empty websites and social pages, and mention of a one-off A-Trak collaboration. Is it beats? Art? Something else entirely? At the most basic level, GALANTIS is two friends making music together. The fact that they’re Christian “Bloodshy” Karlsson of Miike Snow and Linus Eklow, aka Style of Eye, is what changes the plot. The accomplished duo’s groundbreaking work as GALANTIS destroys current electronic dance music tropes, demonstrating that emotion and musicianship can indeed coexist with what Eklow calls “a really really big kind of vibe.” “GALANTIS is about challenging, not following.” says Karlsson. Karlsson should know about shaking things up. As half of production duo Bloodshy & Avant, he reinvented pop divas like Madonna, Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue in the early 2000s. He co-wrote and produced Spears’ stunning, career-changing single “Toxic” to the tune of a 2005 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. Since then he’s been breaking more ground as one-third of mysterious, jackalobe-branded band Miike Snow. The trio’s two albums, 2009’s self-titled debut and 2011’s Happy To You, fuse the warm pulse of dance music with inspired songcraft, spanning rock, indie, pop and soul. And they recreated that special synthesis live, playing over 300 shows, including big stages like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Ultra Music Festival. As Style of Eye, Eklow has cut his own path through the wilds of electronic music for the last decade, defying genre and releasing work on a diverse swath of labels including of- the-moment EDM purveyors like Fool’s Gold, OWSLA and Refune; and underground stalwarts like Classic, Dirtybird and Pickadoll.

  • Rufus Wainwright & Mark Ronson Team Up
2012-01-31 17:08 CET Rufus Wainwright & Mark Ronson Team Up New Rufus Disc Out April 23rd on Polydor Rufus Wainwright releases his eagerly anticipated new album, ‘Out of the Game’, April 23rd on Polydor. Produced by Mark Ronson, this is the 7th studio album from one of the very best contemporary songwriters. Rufus says it’s “the most pop album I’ve ever made” while Mark Ronson believes “it’s the best work of my career”. Both sentiments can be heard between the grooves of this marriage made in heaven. Recorded in New York last autumn, the 12 tracks sparkle and shine. From the uptempo opening chords of the title track and first single to the gospel tinged rock of ‘Jericho’, through the beauty of ‘Sometimes You Need’ and the emotional pull of ‘Candles’, this new disc ranks alongside Rufus Wainwright’s very best. Musicians on the album include the Dap-kings who Mark used for the groundbreaking Amy Winehouse ‘Back To Black’ CD and his own ‘Record Collection’; Wilco’s Nels Cline; Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Andrew Wyatt from Miike Snow; Sean Lennon and Martha Wainwright. Influences, as ever, were all encompassing. Mark says ‘Out of the Game’ “has a real 70’s, Laurel Canyon spirit” while Rufus cites “all the greats- Elton, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, basically the brash and beautiful. It’s also very Rufus.” Without a doubt, ‘Out of the Game’ covers all the bases. Universal Music är Sveriges och världens ledande musikbolag med representation i hela 71 länder. Biography Mark Ronson is an internationally renowned DJ and five-time-Grammy-Award-winning and Golden Globe-winning artist and producer. Ronson spent the first eight years of his life growing up in London, England. Having played guitar and drums from an early age, it wasn't until moving to New York City following his parents’ divorce, that he discovered DJ culture. At age 16, and already a fan of artists like A Tribe Called Quest, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys, Ronson began listening to mixtapes released by various hip hop DJs. Inspired, Ronson confiscated his step-father's vinyl collection and tried his hand at mixing. It was the first step in a career highlighted by work on a multi Grammy-winning album by Amy Winehouse, as well as his own Grammy-winning, global smash hit with Bruno Mars, "Uptown Funk." In the late 1990s into the early 2000s, the New York club scene was percolating with booming hip-hop and glitzy R&B. Ronson quickly earned himself a reputation through stints on the decks in downtown clubs before becoming the DJ of choice for many noteworthy parties. Hip-hop mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs hired Ronson to DJ his fabled 29th birthday bash. These and other high-profile gigs boosted Ronson's profile and connected him with other artists, many of whom were interested in collaborating. His first production gig came from British soul singer Nikka Costa and he found that his experience of working a club crowd informed his production skills. Fusing his eclectic turntable skills with his knowledge of musical instruments and songwriting, Ronson soon embarked on his first solo record.
