They rocked the blues right out of the music tent they performed in. The band met with me after their organic yet stimulating set to talk about everything from the t.v. show they hate to admit they watch to their current album Coming Up For Air. The band's name, Back Door Slam originated with a Robert Cray song. Davy told me his dad took him to Cray's concert when he was in 8th grade. The experience was life changing for him and the song that impacted him the most was entitled "Back Door Slam". Back Door Slam has been through a lot of transition over the course of 2009, loosing originating band members Adam Jones on bass and drummer Ross Doyle in January. Davy decided to reinvent and continue to pursue his solo career. He picked up Seattle natives Steven Barci on drums and P.K. on the bass. Davy says that the addition of the new band members pushes him as an artist to grow and that he hasn't been happier than he is right now. So what is the inspiration behind the new album? Davy says it started with the song, "Coming Up For Air" saying the lyric in a particular song in conjunction with the book he was reading at the time entitled Coming Up For Air by George Orwell struck him and moved him. The premise of the lyric is to be stuck in a situation in life, hitting rock bottom and being able to pull up out of it. It's a beautiful concept that relates to the core of our human experience. Other things that can inspire Davy's creativity and writing process include a riff on the guitar that suddenly comes off naturally or a moment in life saying, "Quite a lot of things can inspire music actually." On a personal note, a couple of Davy's favorite artists at the moment are John Hiatt and Ben Harper, (also a featured artist at the Mile High Music Festival). When asked what the band couldn't do without on the road they all agreed it would be Sushi adding to that, with a touch of humor, their driver, Mack. And Mack quite literally seems to hold the keys to one of Davy's favorite accomplishments in his career to date, the tour bus! He said that life on the road is much easier now that they have one. And if you're still wondering what that t.v. show might be that Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam can't get enough of but hate to admit to, it's Gene Simmons Family Jewels. They confessed that one time they watched six episodes in a row during a marathon airing of the show. If you're local to the Denver Metro area and missed this talented Rock and Blues band today you can still catch them on July 22nd at Red Rocks. Davy and company put on a show that is remarkable and unforgettable, leading me to believe this band is one to keep on your radar!” - Examiner.com For up-to-the-minute AAA news... An undiscovered island. An epic journey. An illustrious ship. Known just by its name and its logo, GALANTIS could be all or none of these things. A Google search only turns up empty websites and social pages, and mention of a one-off A-Trak collaboration. Is it beats? Art? Something else entirely? At the most basic level, GALANTIS is two friends making music together. The fact that they’re Christian “Bloodshy” Karlsson of Miike Snow and Linus Eklow, aka Style of Eye, is what changes the plot. The accomplished duo’s groundbreaking work as GALANTIS destroys current electronic dance music tropes, demonstrating that emotion and musicianship can indeed coexist with what Eklow calls “a really really big kind of vibe.” “GALANTIS is about challenging, not following.” says Karlsson. Karlsson should know about shaking things up. As half of production duo Bloodshy & Avant, he reinvented pop divas like Madonna, Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue in the early 2000s. He co-wrote and produced Spears’ stunning, career-changing single “Toxic” to the tune of a 2005 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. Since then he’s been breaking more ground as one-third of mysterious, jackalobe-branded band Miike Snow. The trio’s two albums, 2009’s self-titled debut and 2011’s Happy To You, fuse the warm pulse of dance music with inspired songcraft, spanning rock, indie, pop and soul. And they recreated that special synthesis live, playing over 300 shows, including big stages like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Ultra Music Festival. As Style of Eye, Eklow has cut his own path through the wilds of electronic music for the last decade, defying genre and releasing work on a diverse swath of labels including of- the-moment EDM purveyors like Fool’s Gold, OWSLA and Refune; and underground stalwarts like Classic, Dirtybird and Pickadoll.

  • Rufus Wainwright & Mark Ronson Team Up
2012-01-31 17:08 CET Rufus Wainwright & Mark Ronson Team Up New Rufus Disc Out April 23rd on Polydor Rufus Wainwright releases his eagerly anticipated new album, ‘Out of the Game’, April 23rd on Polydor. Produced by Mark Ronson, this is the 7th studio album from one of the very best contemporary songwriters. Rufus says it’s “the most pop album I’ve ever made” while Mark Ronson believes “it’s the best work of my career”. Both sentiments can be heard between the grooves of this marriage made in heaven. Recorded in New York last autumn, the 12 tracks sparkle and shine. From the uptempo opening chords of the title track and first single to the gospel tinged rock of ‘Jericho’, through the beauty of ‘Sometimes You Need’ and the emotional pull of ‘Candles’, this new disc ranks alongside Rufus Wainwright’s very best. Musicians on the album include the Dap-kings who Mark used for the groundbreaking Amy Winehouse ‘Back To Black’ CD and his own ‘Record Collection’; Wilco’s Nels Cline; Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Andrew Wyatt from Miike Snow; Sean Lennon and Martha Wainwright. Influences, as ever, were all encompassing. Mark says ‘Out of the Game’ “has a real 70’s, Laurel Canyon spirit” while Rufus cites “all the greats- Elton, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, basically the brash and beautiful. It’s also very Rufus.” Without a doubt, ‘Out of the Game’ covers all the bases. Universal Music är Sveriges och världens ledande musikbolag med representation i hela 71 länder. Universal Music i Sverige är helägda av Universal Music Group.

Biography Mark Ronson is an internationally renowned DJ and five-time-Grammy-Award-winning and Golden Globe-winning artist and producer. Ronson spent the first eight years of his life growing up in London, England. Having played guitar and drums from an early age, it wasn't until moving to New York City following his parents’ divorce, that he discovered DJ culture. At age 16, and already a fan of artists like A Tribe Called Quest, Run DMC and the Beastie Boys, Ronson began listening to mixtapes released by various hip hop DJs. Inspired, Ronson confiscated his step-father's vinyl collection and tried his hand at mixing. It was the first step in a career highlighted by work on a multi Grammy-winning album by Amy Winehouse, as well as his own Grammy-winning, global smash hit with Bruno Mars, "Uptown Funk." In the late 1990s into the early 2000s, the New York club scene was percolating with booming hip-hop and glitzy R&B. Ronson quickly earned himself a reputation through stints on the decks in downtown clubs before becoming the DJ of choice for many noteworthy parties. Hip-hop mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs hired Ronson to DJ his fabled 29th birthday bash. These and other high-profile gigs boosted Ronson's profile and connected him with other artists, many of whom were interested in collaborating. His first production gig came from British soul singer Nikka Costa and he found that his experience of working a club crowd informed his production skills. Fusing his eclectic turntable skills with his knowledge of musical instruments and songwriting, Ronson soon embarked on his first solo record.

The pulsating synths and skittering rhythm of “The Heart That I’m Hearing” mirror the song’s lyrics about the rush of falling love. The emotive vocal features the custom “Galantis filter” which blends male and female voices. Stream the track here and at Refinery 29 where it premiered. The EP is available for pre-sale here. Galantis just announced a North American tour and they’re bringing the Seafox, the fantastical animal on their artwork, with them! The tour includes appearances at the Coachella Festival on April 12th and 19th, which will be their debut live dates. When Galantis was conceived, they quickly realized a dj set would not embody the music’s Olympian sound that unites various branches of electronic music and have been putting together a live show with the adventurous spirit and innovation their songs demand.
