British Council for Chinese Martial Arts Chinese Wrestling – Shuai Jiao Competition Rules 2017 Approved for worldwide use by the International Development Forum 1. Contestants 1.1 Must be aged 18 to 40 (inclusive) on the day of the tournament; they should be in medically fit to compete in a contact sport; and be licensed and insured to participate in Chinese martial arts tournaments and events. 2. Participation 2.1 For national tournaments each team will consist of: One (1) Team Leader; One (1) Team Coach; and Team Member(s) - a maximum of two (2) Team Members for each weight category. 3. Registration and Weigh-in 3.1 The registration is supervised by an Administrator supported by a Referee and/or a Medical Doctor. To register, each contestant must produce: a BCCMA License for insurance purposes; and for international competition a medical certificate; a signed waiver declaration; and a passport or other internationally acceptable identification (with photograph). The contestant is then cleared to weigh-in. 3.2 The weigh-in is conducted by an Administrator and Referee. Contestants are allowed to remove clothing (to underwear) to weigh-in. Contestants may only weigh once, and will then be allocated to the appropriate weight category. The official scales used will be calibrated to industry standards and will be the only acceptable measure of the contestants’ weight. 4. The hand-to-hand combat portion of this manual is divided into basic and advanced training. The techniques are applied as intuitive patterns of natural movement but are initially studied according to range. Therefore, the basic principles for fighting in each range are discussed. However, for ease of learning they are studied in reverse order as they would be encountered in a combat engagement. Anders Hånell 1* and Elham Rostami 1,2 1 Section of Neurosurgery, Department of Neuroscience, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden, 2 Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet (KI), Stockholm, Sweden Several hypotheses have been put forth over time to explain how consciousness can be so rapidly lost, and then spontaneously regained, following mechanical head trauma. The knockout punch in boxing is a relatively homogenous form of traumatic brain injury and can thus be used to test the predictions of these hypotheses. While none of the hypotheses put forth can be considered fully verified, pore formation following stretching of the axonal cell membrane, mechanoporation, is a strong contender. We here argue that the theoretical foundation of mechanoporation can be strengthened by a comparison with the experimental method electroporation. Member Handbook Welcome to the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program consists of a belt ranking system that begins at white belt and progresses to black belt. Each belt level consists of specific techniques in 7 major categories; takedowns, sweeps, guard passes, submissions, defenses, escapes, and combinations. Techniques begin with fundamentals and become more difficult as each level is reached. In addition, each belt level has a corresponding number of techniques for each category. The goal for each of us should be to become a Master, the epitome of the professional warrior. WARNING: Jiu-Jitsu, like any sport, involves a potential risk for serious injury. The techniques used in these classes are being demonstrated by highly trained professionals and are being shown solely for training purposes and competition. In particular, exercise modifies the structure and function of the hippocampus, a brain area important for learning and memory. This review addresses the central and peripheral mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of exercise on the hippocampus. We focus on running-induced changes in adult hippocampal neurogenesis, neural circuitry, neurotrophins, synaptic plasticity, neurotransmitters, and vasculature. The role of peripheral factors in hippocampal plasticity is also highlighted. We discuss recent evidence that systemic factors released from peripher- al organs such as muscle (myokines), liver (hepatokines), and adipose tissue (adipokines) during exercise contribute to hippocampal neurotrophin and neurogenesis levels, and memory function.
