Basic Wrestling Moves
Basic Wrestling Moves Below are some basic wrestling moves, each with a brief explanation. Clink on the link to see examples of the moves. (click on the back button to get back to this page) Takedown Naturally, you can't pin your opponent until you have him on the mat. To do this you take him down. This photo montage shows a variety of takedown techniques which should all succeed in slapping him down on the mat for you. Breakdown Okay, so you've got your opponent down to the mat but you still have to break him down further to go for that all- important pin. Here are some good ideas to get you started. Crotch Lift Fine, so he's down on the mat - FACE down. That's no good. You need to get him onto his back for a pin and that's where this baby comes in useful. Gut Wrench Another great way to get him off his face and onto his back in readiness for the all-important pin. Pin You press your opponent's shoulders against the mat and keep them there until the referee blows his whistle - a sound which is music to your ears ...and a scratched chalkboard for him. Bridge One great way to counter your opponent's efforts for a pin is to bridge your body by arching your back away from the mat. Here are some strong bridges captured in full execution. Headlock You wrap your arm around your opponent's neck and lock your hands together, ensuring his arm is also gathered into the hold to prevent accidental choking. -
The Knee Strike
Kinematics Analysis of Muay Thai Knee Techniques Rachnavy P. 1, Khaothin T. 1, Rittiwat W. 2 1 School of Sports Science, Suranaree University of Technology (Thailand) 2 School of Sports Science, Srinakharinthara Wiroj University (Thailand) Purpose: The Knee Strike (This technique is done by raising the knee diagonally to the thigh, rib and side of the body of an opponent.) and Knee Straight (This technique is done by raising the knee straightly to the body of an opponent.) techniques are commonly used in Muay Thai. It is effective for close quarters combat. This paper was to compare knee Strikes and knee straight velocity in Muay Thai. Methods: Five professional boxers performed five knee strikes and five knee straights technique to Muay Thai punching bag. Three-dimensional kinematics of knee Strikes and knee straight technique were recorded via a motion capturing system (Qualisys Systems, Sweden). Results: After data collection, velocities of knee technique were analyses. The t-test was used to compare the means between two techniques. In comparing the knee strike and knee straight techniques, there were significant differences in knee velocity (p < 0.05). The results indicated that the mean values of knee straight velocity (mean 15.15 ± 4.60 m/s) were higher than knee Strike velocity (mean 6.01 ± 1.47 m/s). Conclusions: This study found that velocity of knee straight is higher than velocity of knee strike. It is possible that knee straight technique generated more power than knee strike technique. This finding suggests that choosing the right techniques will help boxer to win a fight. -

Women in Love Chapter I SISTERS Ursula and Gudrun Brangwen sat one morning in the window-bay of their father’s house in Beldover, working and talking. Ursula was stitching a piece of brightly- coloured embroidery, and Gudrun was drawing upon a board which she held on her knee. They were mostly silent, talking as their thoughts strayed through their minds. ’Ursula,’ said Gudrun, ‘don’t you REALLY WANT to get married?’ Ursula laid her embroidery in her lap and looked up. Her face was calm and considerate. ’I don’t know,’ she replied. ‘It depends how you mean.’ Gudrun was slightly taken aback. She watched her sister for some moments. ’Well,’ she said, ironically, ‘it usually means one thing! But don’t you think anyhow, you’d be—’ she darkened slightly—’in a better position than you are in now.’ A shadow came over Ursula’s face. ’I might,’ she said. ‘But I’m not sure.’ Again Gudrun paused, slightly irritated. She wanted to be quite definite. 2 of 903 Women in Love ’You don’t think one needs the EXPERIENCE of having been married?’ she asked. ’Do you think it need BE an experience?’ replied Ursula. ’Bound to be, in some way or other,’ said Gudrun, coolly. ‘Possibly undesirable, but bound to be an experience of some sort.’ ’Not really,’ said Ursula. -
Hand to Hand Combat
*FM 21-150 i FM 21-150 ii FM 21-150 iii FM 21-150 Preface This field manual contains information and guidance pertaining to rifle-bayonet fighting and hand-to-hand combat. The hand-to-hand combat portion of this manual is divided into basic and advanced training. The techniques are applied as intuitive patterns of natural movement but are initially studied according to range. Therefore, the basic principles for fighting in each range are discussed. However, for ease of learning they are studied in reverse order as they would be encountered in a combat engagement. This manual serves as a guide for instructors, trainers, and soldiers in the art of instinctive rifle-bayonet fighting. The proponent for this publication is the United States Army Infantry School. Comments and recommendations must be submitted on DA Form 2028 (Recommended Changes to Publications and Blank Forms) directly to Commandant, United States Army Infantry School, ATTN: ATSH-RB, Fort Benning, GA, 31905-5430. Unless this publication states otherwise, masculine nouns and pronouns do not refer exclusively to men. iv CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Hand-to-hand combat is an engagement between two or more persons in an empty-handed struggle or with handheld weapons such as knives, sticks, and rifles with bayonets. These fighting arts are essential military skills. Projectile weapons may be lost or broken, or they may fail to fire. When friendly and enemy forces become so intermingled that firearms and grenades are not practical, hand-to-hand combat skills become vital assets. 1-1. PURPOSE OF COMBATIVES TRAINING Today’s battlefield scenarios may require silent elimination of the enemy. -
How Can a Punch Knock You Out?
PERSPECTIVE published: 26 October 2020 doi: 10.3389/fneur.2020.570566 How Can a Punch Knock You Out? Anders Hånell 1* and Elham Rostami 1,2 1 Section of Neurosurgery, Department of Neuroscience, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden, 2 Department of Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet (KI), Stockholm, Sweden Several hypotheses have been put forth over time to explain how consciousness can be so rapidly lost, and then spontaneously regained, following mechanical head trauma. The knockout punch in boxing is a relatively homogenous form of traumatic brain injury and can thus be used to test the predictions of these hypotheses. While none of the hypotheses put forth can be considered fully verified, pore formation following stretching of the axonal cell membrane, mechanoporation, is a strong contender. We here argue that the theoretical foundation of mechanoporation can be strengthened by a comparison with the experimental method electroporation. Keywords: traumatic brain injury, concussion, boxing, mechanoporation, mechanosensitive (MS) ion channel A HISTORY OF KNOCKOUTS The proportions of the human hand differ from other primates, which tend to have longer fingers. The most likely cause for this is evolutionary pressure aimed at improved manual dexterity to allow better tool use. However, the shape of the human hand also allows it to form a fist which can be used to deliver forceful punches. This was likely very common in prehistoric times, and it has been suggested that the ability to forcefully dominate others also contributed to the evolution of the Edited by: human hand (1). András Büki, University of Pécs, Hungary Even though the earliest use of punching was likely violent conflict solving, there are mentions of organized competitions in early historical records, such as the Iliad by Homer. -
