All available biostratigraphic, and in some cases, magnetostratigraphic data are used to constrain the sequence chronostratigraphy. The relative geographic extent of the strata is used as an indication of the relative sea level. Tectonic and eustatic components could be distinguished in several cases using regional geological information. Generally, sequences consist of transgressive and highstand systems tracts only and have flat, abrasion- type lower boundaries. Lowstand deposits are only identified as infill of erosional space, which generally implies marked tectonic uplift. Several eustatic and tectonic events can be correlated with similar events known elsewhere in the North Sea Basin. The time intervals spanned by the different sequences vary considerably, pointing out different control mechanisms.     Antwerp is the second largest city of Belgium, and the largest city of the Flemish region. The city itself has half a million inhabitants, the metropolitan area about 1,2 million. The port of Antwerp is the second largest in Europe, and has a history dating back to the 12th century. Language Belgium has three official languages; French, Dutch and German. The southern part of Belgium speaks French, a small part east speak German, and the northern part - Flanders - speak Flemish, which is a Dutch dialect. The Brussels area is bilingual French and Flemish. So in Antwerp we speak Flemish/Dutch. Due to the port, Antwerp has always been visited by foreigners and you will have no trouble speaking English, French or even German. History Excavations have shown that Antwerp was inhabited as long ago as the Gallo-Roman period (2nd or 3rd century A.D.). The city appears to have grown up around two settlements: the 'aanwerp' (alluvial mound) from which it takes its name and Caloes, 500 meters further south. The city first experienced an economic boom in the 12th century, when the rival port of Bruges started silting up. By the first half of the 14th century, Antwerp had become the most important trading and financial center in Western Europe, its reputation based largely on its seaport and wool market. In 1356, the city, which had been part of the Holy Roman Empire, was annexed to the County of Flanders and lost lots of its privileges, partly to Bruges' advantage. Fifty years later, the political and economic tide turned again and as the Golden Age unfolded, Antwerp became a world class metropolis, described as 'the loveliest city in the world'.

Om het beleid daarom- delen van het grondgebied van het district Antwer- trent in de toekomstige gemeente Ekeren niet in het pen. Brasschaat, Kapellen en Hoevenen zijn inmid- gedrang te brengen, lijkt het wenselijk om het gebied dels uitgegroeid tot aanzienlijke en welvarende meteen naar Ekeren over te dragen.
