2019 Christmas Ship™ Festival Parade of Boats Night -- Terms & Conditions

We are thrilled you are interested in participating in the Argosy Cruises Christmas Ship™ Festival 5th Annual Parade of Boats on December 13, 2019. Below are instructions for vessel participation in this year’s parade.

You will find the following sections below:

Please read these in advance of the day of the Parade and bring them with you to Parade of Boats for reference.

1. General Guidelines o Parade of Boats Activities Dec. 13. 7:00 – 9:30pm 1. 7:20 – 7:40pm participants gather in middle of for the Spirit of Seattle performance 2. 7:40pm Parade Begins in Lake Union, following the performance in the middle of Lake Union 3. Parade Proceeds clockwise around Lake Union’s west side, then through the Fremont Cut – down and back. See Route Map on Page 2 for details. 4. 9:30pm Parade Ends or after the final participating boat has sailed east to west through the Fremont Cut. o A vessel may not participate in the Parade of Boats unless it registers with Argosy Cruises prior to the Parade date. All vessels must register no later than Friday, December 1, 2018. Unregistered vessels are required to follow behind the official Parade and are not eligible for awards. o Receiving a Parade invitation does not constitute registration. You must register even if you have received a verbal or written invitation from Argosy Cruises. o Parade Numbers are assigned electronically via email upon completing registration. o No religious or political signs of any sort are permitted in the Parade. o Entrants are responsible for removal of litter or decorations left in water. o Limited commercial signs are allowed on an individual basis. Please contact Argosy Cruises well in advance of the Parade date at [email protected] for signage approval if you intend to display a commercial sign on a registered vessel.

2. Boat Numbers & Vessel Order o Parade Numbers are assigned electronically via email upon completing registration. o Vessel numbers will consist of a letter and number, e.g. B 12, C 4. o Each Parade Number issued by Argosy Cruises will be assigned to only one vessel. o Your boat name and assigned Parade Number will be shared in a Parade Roster with fellow Parade Boaters prior to the parade. o The information collected during registration - boat name, décor theme or description – as well as your Parade Number (relayed over VHF Ch. 68) will be used to identify your boat as it passes the viewing party and judges tent. The judges will be listening over the WHF to each boater’s call. o During the parade and as you pass under the , Parade boaters should call out their vessel name, pre-assigned boater number and decoration theme (if applicable) over VHF Ch. 68 to Parade staff at Viewing Party. Staff will be monitoring this channel to support the judges team and narration for viewers on shore.

3. Dates & Times – All times are approximate

7:00PM Boaters assemble in the center of Lake Union to view the first performance of the night performed for boaters on the lake.

Captains check in with Parade Director on VHF CH. 68. 7:20PM The Official Christmas Ship™, The Spirit of Seattle, arrives in the middle of Lake Union for performance #1 from 7:20 to 7:40PM.

**Boaters leave 100’+ clearance around the Christmas Ship™ at all times** 7:40PM The Christmas Ship™ heads clockwise around Lake Union’s west side and the parade begins 8:10PM Parade arrives at the Fremont Cut and the Christmas Ship™ begins performance #2 from 8:10 to 8:30PM. This is a Rolling Show. Parade speed is 4 knots 8:10PM – last boater As you pass under the Fremont Bridge, Parade boaters call out vessel name, pre- crosses under Fremont assigned boater number and decoration theme (if applicable) over VHF Ch. 68 to bridge heading west. Parade staff at Viewing Party.

Ex: “This is the Windswept, parade number A-7 decorated in Seahawks colors.”

Parade vessels follow down the Cut, past the Judges Booth and official Viewing Party on the north shore of the Fremont Cut. Duration of Parade Just before (east of) the , vessels will see Argosy's 34' vessel, the Beaver -- The Parade Director's Vessel -- stationed with a yellow flashing light. Parade boats make a U-Turn around the Beaver and head east back through the Fremont Cut to Lake Union.

Be Advised There will be both Eastbound and Westbound vessel traffic in the Fremont Cut during the parade.

4. Night of the Parade o All vessels participating in the Parade are required to have and use a working VHF radio. All skippers are required to monitor VHF Channel 68 for updates and instructions from the Argosy Cruises Parade of Boats Director. o The Parade Director's official vessel is The Beaver. o Each skipper will follow all instructions from the Parade Director and law enforcement officers. The Parade will start on orders from the Parade Director. o Thereafter the Parade will continue alphabetically by class, i.e. Class A, Class B, Class C, etc. Vessels are not required to transit by number within their class, i.e. B 06 may transit before B 04. o Skippers must continue to monitor VHF Ch. 68 at all times for directions from the Parade of Boats Director on staging, spacing, special maneuvers and other information relevant to the Parade. o Steer a straight course, with the bow going in a forward direction. Keep parade safe but tight, two to three boat lengths between boats conditions permitting. Maintain safe speed at all times. Please no unnecessary turns off course until the U-TURN just BEFORE the Ballard Bridge.

o If you wish to obtain permission for special maneuvering, please contact the Parade Director well before the Parade of Boats date to discuss your plans. Obey the instructions of the Parade Director and the official marshal patrol boats.

5. Awards o All boats competing for awards must pass through Fremont Cut (east to west). o The Judges' will be stationed in the Judges Tent above the Burke Gilman trail on the Fremont Cut (near the intersection of N Northlake Way and Evanston Ave N).

Winners will be announced online the week following the Parade of Boats.

6. Safety Considerations o Please help us honor and respect the security forces that will be working to support this event. All vessels in the Parade must pre-register with Argosy Cruises and display a valid boat number. Do not exchange boat numbers. o All emergency communication should be transmitted on VHF Ch. 16 or via cell phone 911. Non- emergency communication with the Parade Director should be conducted on VHF Ch. 68. o Boating Safety: Argosy Cruises encourages Parade participants to model good boating safety by following the U.S.C.G. Federal PFD Regulation for Children: THE REGULATIONS ESTABLISH A FEDERAL REQUIREMENT FOR CHILDREN UNDER 13 YEARS OLD ABOARD RECREATIONAL VESSELS TO WEAR COAST GUARD-APPROVED PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICES (PFDS), WHILE THE VESSEL IS UNDER WAY, UNLESS THE CHILDREN ARE BELOW DECK OR IN AN ENCLOSED CABIN. o A $2,500 fine and/or jail sentence could result from throwing any other objects from your boat. o In keeping with Argosy Cruises strict policy of protecting our environment, please be ecologically minded by refraining from using overboard discharge heads, releasing balloons, using plastic streamers or in any way polluting our waterways.
