    Sydney Opera House Information Guide Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 On 1 July 2010 the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) replaced the Freedom of Information Act 1989 (NSW). The GIPA Act aims to make government information more open, transparent and accessible to the public and encourage government entities, including Sydney Opera House to proactively release government information. Details about your right to information and how to access government information are available from the NSW Information and Privacy Commission. About the Sydney Opera House The Sydney Opera House is the symbol of modern Australia, the nation’s foremost tourism destination and one of the world’s busiest performing arts centres. A State, National and World Heritage-listed architectural masterpiece, the Opera House is a statutory body established under the Sydney Opera House Trust Act 1961. The Trust’s objectives are to: Administer, care for, control, manage and maintain the Sydney Opera House building and site; Manage and administer Sydney Opera House as an arts centre and meeting place; Promote artistic taste and achievement in all branches of the performing arts; and Foster scientific research into, and encourage the development of new forms of entertainment and presentation. A 2013 Deloitte Access Economics report released for the Opera House’s 40th Anniversary in October 2013 found that the Opera House contributes $775 million a year to the national economy and has a cultural and iconic value to Australia of $4.6 billion. In 2018, to mark the mid-point of the Opera House’s Decade of Renewal, Deloitte released a second report.

To those outside politics, Nathan Rees's installation as Premier came as a bolt from the blue. But forces working against Morris Iemma had been gathering for months. As a number of Labor insiders tell it, his unwavering support for privatisation of the state's power industry was not the only cause of Iemma's downfall. The NSW Labor headquarters in Sussex Street, under the leadership of its secretary, Karl Bitar, 37, had tu rned against Iemma months before when his disapproval ratings soared. Iemma told colleagues he detected a change in Bitar's attitude towards him from about Christmas. "By March you could see that Morris was doing worse than the party," a source said. "The punters out there thought they had been conned; Morris came in as premier and said it was a new government. They had given him the benefit of the doubt and progress had not been made. So the electorate was pissed off." Against the drum-beat of the polls, the privatisation debate was growing steadily more bitter. Party bosses had kept a tight lid on the festering tensions over electricity during last year's federal election campaign. But once that was out of the way, all bets were off. "Karl Bitar and Joh n Robertson [the UnionsNSW boss] did nothing else from the Monday after the federal election until the state party conference in May except try to manage the electricity debate," said a source.

Professor James Weirick Ken Maher AO, Fellow, HASSELL Studio Ken Maher is well known as a leader and commentator within the architecture profession based in Sydney, a former chairman of HASSELL Ltd and currently founding HASSELL Fellow. Ken is an honorary professor in the Faculty of Built Environment at University of New South Wales, following terms as an adjunct professor and professor in practice. He has a strong interest in the role of design in contributing to public life, and the critical relationship between design and achieving a sustainable future. Current positions include non-executive director of the CRC for Low Carbon Living Ltd and IBL Ltd (a subsidiary of the Australian Institute of Architects), and director of the ACT City Renewal Authority. He chairs the City of Sydney’s Design Advisory Panel, the Sydney Opera House’s Design Advisory Panel, and Landcom’s Design Advisory Panel, and is also a member of the NSW State Design Review Panel and the ACT National Capital Design Review Panel. Ken serves on UNSW Built Environment Advisory Council and the campus Design Excellence Review Panel. In 2015, he was appointed president of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council and continues in this role. Past roles have included serving on the board of Urban Growth NSW, Landcom and the Green Building Council of Australia.
