He adapted an untypical way of making music in which he was able to combine the traditional and the modern type. There are several substances that were brought in music of Azerbaijan by Garayev such as new themes, new images, and new means of composing. He achieved success not only in the areas of the national ballet, choral, and chamber music but also panned out well considering sonata for violin and piano and the violin concerto. These works represents main aspects and characteristics of Garayev’s music like implementation of national traditions while applying new methods of the 20th century, specifically neo-classicism and serial technique. In both sonata for violin and piano and the violin concerto, he reflects a perspective of synthesis of the two musical systems that are the Eastern and the Western. -

Hamlet Isaxanli in Search of “Khazar”
Hamlet Isaxanli In Search of “Khazar” 2 In Search of "Khazar" The realities of events associated with the establishment and development of Khazar University have left indelible traces in my memory. I intend to pass these events to you in their entirety and in all sincerity. I hope I can relive together with you, readers, those days spent in ‘search of "Khazar". In Search of "Khazar" 3 CHAPTER 1 BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH For a number of years I was familiarizing myself with different universities all over the world, whilst gathering my thoughts on science and education in my own country, Azerbaijan. These ideas and comparisons were taking a distinctive shape in my imagination - the shape of a university. Novel ideas and thoughts seemingly appear unexpectedly, but in reality they are a result of long and intensive subconscious efforts. The information that we absorb, accept and keep in our minds is explored and analyzed in invisible and imperceptible ways. Accor- ding to some hypotheses, this way is simply called a harmonization, putting thoughts into a correct and beautiful order. In this process, suddenly everything falls into place and an idea appears as a patch of light. The first place where I studied after Azerbaijan was Moscow State University. I spent long years there first studying and then researching mathematics. The university’s extremely high scientific potential and pleasant and creative atmosphere seemed to be a new world to me. Later I traveled more and came across more varied systems at universities in Canada and in Europe. I didn’t content myself solely with giving lectures, presenting papers at different conferences, workshops, and conducting new research. -
Communist Propoganda in Azerbaijani Children's Literature In
ISSN 2411-9598 (Print) European Journal of January-April 2018 ISSN 2411-4103 (Online) Language and Literature Studies Volume 4 Issue 1 Communist Propoganda in Azerbaijani Children’s Literature in the Soviet Union Zhala Babashova KASTRATİ Kastamonu University Faculty of Science and Letters, Contemporary Turkish Dialects and Literatures Abstract After the national republic had fallen in Azerbaijan in 1920 and the nation taken in the USSR, people’s view of the world was reshaped. Foreseeing that the sustainability of the Soviet order depends on educating children, the Communist Party rapidly started to improve the children’s literature. Furthermore, the Soviet ideology began to be transferred to the children in Azerbaijan via magazines and newspapers. Improved under the control of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijani children’s literature maintained the goal of raising Soviet minded people thanks to the topics and heroes in the literature. Three stages were considered so that Azerbaijani children could be raised with communist mentality. These stages are: Oktyabryat (age 7-9), Pioner (age 10), Komsomol (age 14). Oktyabryat was the first title given on the way to the Communism. The Soviet government made use of the power of the press, magazines and newspapers in order to carve socialism ideology into people’s minds. With the purpose of raising children with the Soviet mentality, the children’s magazine called Pioner (1927-1990) began publishing in Baku, in 1927. The magazine was issued 11 times a year. 80 percent of the essays, stories and poems were served for the Communist propaganda. These praised the Soviet era, told stories about Lenin’s success in school and included poems about the Soviet ancestry. -

The Enlightenment Movement and Cultural Revival In
THE ENLIGHTENMENT MOVEMENT AND CULTURAL REVIVAL IN AZERBAIJAN IN THE LATE 19TH CENTURY By Turkay Gasimova Submitted to Central European University Department of History In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Supervisor: Professor Alfred J. CEU eTD Collection i Abstract In this thesis I focus on the late 19th century Azerbaijani history from the perspective of intellectual history. I mainly talk about the Enlightenment Movement with an emphasize on the intellectual debates on Religion and Secularism. Intellectual influences of the newly emerged intelligentsia with a special focus on cultural and intellectual life in Baku is also one of the main focal points of the presented work. My main argument in the thesis is that, without cultural and intellectual revival of late 19th century, which became possible with Baku oil boom, establishing the first Democratic Republic in Muslim world in 1918 wouldn’t be possible. I start with Baku Oil Boom of 1870s and continue with the establishment of the first Azerbaijani newspaper, “Akinchi” and then after examining the main intellectual debates, I conclude the thesis with the two most influential Azerbaijani intellectuals of the late 19th century. -
