The checklist of Collembola from the Republic of Moldova including 223 species is presented. The list is based on literature sources and personal collecting. Résumé. Ce travail présente la liste des 223 espèces de collemboles de la République de Moldova. Cette liste fut réalisée en utilisant des références littéraires et des collections personnelles. INTRODUCTION The records on Collembola from the Republic of Moldova started about 50 years ago with the first two species included by Martynova in “The key to insects of the European part of the USSR. Collembola” (1964). Some more information on species diversity of Collembola from the soil of Moldavian vineyards was included in Stegãrescu’s work (1967). During the last twenty years, this group has been studied more systematically, with more than 200 species recorded (Buºmachiu 2001, 2004, 2006 a, b, 2008). Since 2002, eleven species new to science were described from the Republic of Moldova by da Gama & Buºmachiu (2002, 2004); Buºmachiu & Deharveng (2008) and Buºmachiu & Weiner (2008). Until now, the faunistic data on Collembola from the Republic of Moldova have not been summarised in the form of a checklist. The present paper includes the complete list of Collembola from the Republic of Moldova using the modern nomenclature. Totally, 223 species are listed. Some problematic and dubious species, such as Pseudanurida clysmae Jackson, 1927, Onychiurus fimetarius (Linnaeus, 1758) and Orchesella divergens Handschin, 1929 recorded by Stegãrescu (1967) and Pseudosinella wahlgrei Börner, 1907, are not included in the list. -

It is morphologically similar in most characters to D. deficiens meridionalis and to D. luberonensis, both members of the D. phlegraea group, differing from the former by the absence of chaeta O on head, and from the later by the separation of tubercles Di and De on Th. Se describen los caracteres morfológicos más distintivos, así como los biotopos donde se encuentran y su tipo de alimentación. Se hace una evaluación de la biodiversidad, encontrando que existen citados más de 700 taxa, muchos de ellos a nivel genérico, de 24 familias. Se discute su distribución geográfica por provincias biogeográficas, así como la diversidad de cada estado. Se presentan cuadros con la clasificación ecológica con ejemplos mexicanos; se indican las familias y su riqueza a nivel mundial y nacional, así como la curva acumulativa de especies mexicanas por quinquenio. Palabras clave: Collembola, biodiversidad, distribución, ecología, acumulación de especies. Abstract. A brief assessment of the importance of the group in different ecosystems is done. A description of the most distinctive morphological characters, as well as biotopes where they live is included. An evaluation of their biodiversity is presented; finding that more than 700 taxa have been cited, many of them at the generic level, in 24 families. Their geographical distribution is discussed and the state richness is pointed out. Tables of ecological classification applied to Mexican species are given. -

TREWICK defining feature of the Hexapoda, as the name suggests, is six legs. Also, the body comprises a head, thorax, and abdomen. The number A of abdominal segments varies, however; there are only six in the Collembola (springtails), 9–12 in the Protura, and 10 in the Diplura, whereas in all other hexapods there are strictly 11. Insects are now regarded as comprising only those hexapods with 11 abdominal segments. Whereas crustaceans are the dominant group of arthropods in the sea, hexapods prevail on land, in numbers and biomass. Altogether, the Hexapoda constitutes the most diverse group of animals – the estimated number of described species worldwide is just over 900,000, with the beetles (order Coleoptera) comprising more than a third of these. Today, the Hexapoda is considered to contain four classes – the Insecta, and the Protura, Collembola, and Diplura. The latter three classes were formerly allied with the insect orders Archaeognatha (jumping bristletails) and Thysanura (silverfish) as the insect subclass Apterygota (‘wingless’). The Apterygota is now regarded as an artificial assemblage (Bitsch & Bitsch 2000). -
The Springtails (Insecta: Collembola) Fauna at Different Microhabitats of Bečići Beach, Montenegro

ĐUKIĆ1 1Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics, University of Pristina, Kosovska Mitrovica, Serbia ABSTRACT Collembola fauna has been investigated at different microhabitats near the beach in Bečići, Montenegro. Samples were collected from four locations: Hotel “Tara”, “Sveti Toma” Church (St. Thomas), Hotel “Naftagas” and “Zelena Stena” (Green Rock). Each of the location presented different microhabitat: under the palm tree, cypresses tree, larch tree and white pine tree. Samples were taken in May and September 2015 and results presented as qualitative findings. Total number of 30 Collembola species was identified, classified into six families and 17 genera. Representatives of the family Hypogastruridae and Isotomidae were recorded at all of the studied sites, while representatives of the families: Naenuridae, Onychiuridae, Entomobryidae and Sminthuridae were present on some of locations. The biggest number of species and the highest Collembola population density was found at the Green Stone site, 24 species in total, microhabitat- white pine, and the smallest number of species, 6 on site “St. Thomas” Church, microhabitat- cypresses trees. Diversity and Abundance of Springtails (Insecta: Collembola) in Native and Restored Tallgrass Prairies

DUNN The Morton Arboretum, 4100 Illinois Route 53, Lisle, Illinois 60532-1293 ABSTRACT.ÐThis study suggests that heterotrophic components of prairie ecosystems can be used with autotrophic components to assess the degree to which a restored prairie ap- proaches the biotic complexity of a native prairie. Springtails (Collembola) were collected from prairie vegetation and litter samples from 13 prairie sites (seven native and six restored) located in southwestern Michigan and northeastern Illinois. The diversity and abundance of these insects and the plant and litter biomass were compared. There were 27 different taxa of springtails in the 225 samples collected. Native prairies had the greatest species richness with 26 species. The oldest restored prairie had 17 species. Three common species were Hypogastrura boletivora, Isotoma viridis, and Lepidocyrtus pallidus. Neanura muscorum, Xenylla grisea, and Pseuduosinella rolfsi were rare. Tomocerus ¯avescens was found primarily in native prairies with only one occurrence in the oldest restored prairie in this study. Native prairies and restored prairies of 17 and 24 yr did not differ signi®cantly in numbers of springtails. Differences in springtail numbers did occur, however, between restored prairies of ,6yr and native prairies, and between younger (,6 yr) and older (17 and 26 yr) restored prairies. An analysis of plant and litter biomass indicated signi®cant differences among the prairie sites sampled. These results suggest that all components of the prairie ecosystem are useful for making restoration management decisions. -

Two species are described in this paper: Orogastrura tetrophthalma n. sp. (Hypogastruridae) and Deutonura jeromoltoi n. sp. (Neanuridae). O. tetrophthalma n. sp. is the fi rst species of the genus found in the southwestern Alps. It diff ers from all other species of Orogastrura Deharveng & Gers, 1979 by the large size of its postantennal organ (more than twice as long as eye diameter) and the presence of 4+4 eyes. Materials of Hypogastruridae, Odontellidae, Neanuridae, Onychiuridae and Isotomidae from East Africa were studied. Several new species are described: Acherontiella kowalskiorum sp. n., Furcu- lanurida grandcolasorum sp. n., Stachorutes dallaii sp. n., and Paleonura cassagnaui sp. n. Friesea vtorovi Tshelnokov, 1977 and Tullbergia kilimanjarica (Delamare Deboutteville, 1953) are redescribed. Stachorutes arlei (Thibaud & Massoud, 1980) is a new combination. Identification keys for Friesea Dalla Torre, 1895 with 2 + 2 eyes and Stachorutes Dallai, 1973 are given. INTRODUCTION The last systematic account on the Collembola of East Africa was presented by Dehar- veng and Diaz in 1984 with a review of all references concerning this region. Endonura longirostris sp. n., from northern Iran, is distinctive due to an exceptionally elongate buccal cone compared to that of most other species of the genus. Lobellina weinerae sp. n. is the most similar to L. minuta (Lee, 1980) and L. musangensis Yosii, 1976, but differs from them in chaetotaxic details and the number of mandibular teeth. Lobellina pomorskii sp. n. differs from L. perfusionides (Stach, 1965) in chaetotaxic details and the number of tubercles on Abd.V. Yuukianura deharvengi sp. n. is superficially similar to Y. halophila Yosii, 1955, but it differs in the build of the maxilla, the size of eyes and an inner tooth on the claw, and in chaetotaxic details. Furthermore, some remarks on the characteristics and the peculiarity of the Vietnamese fauna of the subfamily, and the key to all species from the country, are included.
