He has so far performed in various solo concerts in Iran as well as abroad, and collaborated with many ensembles like the Soroush Ensemble, Faramarz Payvar Ensemble, Dalaho , Ayeneh and Massiha . Released works (Hermes Records) : Genesis » (Hermes records website) Afshar , Abdolhasan Moshir Moazan (1903-1978 ) Setar Player. « He was of an ascetic character, of those people who do not seek fame through his art. So we do not know a great deal from his life. It is said that he was the pupil of Darvish Khân and Abdlhasan Sabâ, but no one is certain about the quality of his studies with these two great masters. He was among those who studied and practiced playing the instruments before the introduction of recording technology. Watching a live performance of past masters, like Moshir Moazzam Afshâr, has priority over hearing his recorded legacy. His style has a great affinity to the old style of playing setâr. But his recorded pieces are inferior to many of his predecessors in respect of fluency and power, because they are all recorded in a very old age. His strong drones during melody-making, his strong and glorious introductions, precise fingerings and strokes, authentic sonority are among his marvelous characteristics . » (Maral Honarbin ‘s Website ) Afshar , Abdolhasan Moshir Moazan Afghah , [Navid] Tonbak (1903-1978 ) - Maral Honarbin ‘s Aghai, [Siavash] player Website Afsari Rad [Javid] A santur player. “Shirini” style. Podoces, 2008, 3(1/2): 1–30 Rare Birds in Iran in the Late 1960s and 1970s DEREK A. SCOTT Castletownbere Post Office, Castletownbere, Co. Cork, Ireland. Email: [email protected] Received 26 July 2008; accepted 14 September 2008 Abstract: The 12-year period from 1967 to 1978 was a period of intense ornithological activity in Iran. The Ornithology Unit in the Department of the Environment carried out numerous surveys throughout the country; several important international ornithological expeditions visited Iran and subsequently published their findings, and a number of resident and visiting bird-watchers kept detailed records of their observations and submitted these to the Ornithology Unit. These activities added greatly to our knowledge of the status and distribution of birds in Iran, and produced many records of birds which had rarely if ever been recorded in Iran before. This paper gives details of all records known to the author of 92 species that were recorded as rarities in Iran during the 12-year period under review. These include 18 species that had not previously been recorded in Iran, a further 67 species that were recorded on fewer than 13 occasions, and seven slightly commoner species for which there were very few records prior to 1967. All records of four distinctive subspecies are also included. The 29 species that were known from Iran prior to 1967 but not recorded during the period under review are listed in an Appendix. Keywords: Rare birds, rarities, 1970s, status, distribution, Iran. INTRODUCTION Eftekhar, E. Kahrom and J. Mansoori, several of whom quickly became keen ornithologists.

J*., Nohegar, A. and Bouzari, S. Graduate Faculty of Environment, University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran Received: 18.08.2017 Accepted: 31.01.2018 ABSTRACT: As the largest service industry in the world, tourism plays a special role in sustainable development. Geomorphic tourism is known to be a segment of this industry with lower environmental impact and underlying causes that explain lower demand; therefore, it is essential to study, identify, assess, plan, and manage natural tourist attractions. As such, the present study assesses the ability of geomorphological landforms of Haraz watershed, one of the major tourism areas of Iran. In this regard, the features of geomorphologic landforms, including Mount Damavand, the Damavand Icefall, Shahandasht Waterfall, Larijan Spa, and Deryouk Rock Waterfall in different parts of the Haraz watershed have been compared from the standpoint of geotourism features. To assess these landforms, geological maps, topographic and aerial photos, satellite imagery, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and data field have been used as research tools. Evaluation results demonstrate that the average of scientific values in these landforms’ catchment (with 0.76 points) has been greater than the average of other values. These high ratings show the landforms’ potentials to be informative to those examining them for the purpose of education as well as tourist attraction.

This copy has been supplied on the understanding that it is copyright material and that no quotation from the thesis may be published without proper acknowledgement. 2011 The University of Leeds Parmis Mozafari Acknowledgment I would like to express my gratitude to ORSAS scholarship committee and the University of Leeds Tetly and Lupton funding committee for offering the financial support that enabled me to do this research. I would also like to thank my supervisors Professor Kevin Dawe and Dr Sita Popat for their constructive suggestions and patience. Abstract This research examines the changes in conditions of music and dance after the 1979 revolution in Iran. My focus is the restrictions imposed on women instrumentalists, dancers and singers and the ways that have confronted them. I study the social, religious, and political factors that cause restrictive attitudes towards female performers. I pay particular attention to changes in some specific musical genres and the attitudes of the government officials towards them in pre and post-revolution Iran. I have tried to demonstrate the emotional and professional effects of post-revolution boundaries on female musicians and dancers. Chapter one of this thesis is a historical overview of the position of female performers in pre-modern and contemporary Iran.

  • Between Dersim and Dâlahû: Reflections on Kurdish Alevism and the Ahl-I Haqq Religion1
Between Dersim and Dâlahû: Reflections on Kurdish Alevism and the Ahl-i Haqq religion1 Martin van Bruinessen Is Alevism Turkish or Iranian? In the scholarly literature on the religions of the Ahl-i Haqq, Yezidi, and Alevi (Kızılbaş) communities, it has been common to highlight the influence of pre-Islamic Iranian religion (vernacular Zoroastrianism or Mazdaism) on the former two as well as of old Turkic religion (‘shamanism’) on the third, while acknowledging that beneath the surface, the three have a number of important institutions, beliefs, and practices in common that distinguish them from Sunni Islam. The publication of sacred texts which had long been kept cautiously hidden from outsiders appeared to strengthen the division between Iranian- and Turkish-tinged syncretisms, for the oldest and most ‘authentic’ Ahl-i Haqq texts are written in Gurani (and more recent important texts in Persian), the sacred poetry of the Yezidis is in Kurmanji, and their alleged sacred books have come to us in a form of Sorani, whereas the vast corpus of Kızılbaş sacred poetry as well as their only ‘book,’ the Buyruk, are in Turkish.2 Understandably, scholarship on the Ahl-i Haqq and Yezidis has been dominated by scholars with a background in Iranian studies, whereas the study of Alevism long remained the domain of Turkologists. As a result, the Iranian elements in the Ahl-i Haqq and Yezidi religions have received more attention than possible historical connections with Alevism, and in Turkey, the alleged Central Asian Turkish origins of Alevi religious institutions, beliefs, and practices were elevated into an unassailable dogma.
