Tineidae, Acrolepiidae, Epermeniidae With 127 figures Reinhard Gaedike and Ole Karsholt Summary A review of three families Tineidae, Epermeniidae and Acrolepiidae in the Madeira Islands is given. Three new species: Monopis henderickxi sp. n. (Tineidae), Acrolepiopsis mauli sp. n. and A. infundibulosa sp. n. (Acrolepiidae) are described, and two new combinations in the Tineidae: Ceratobia oxymora (MEYRICK) comb. n. and Monopis barbarosi (KOÇAK) comb. n. are listed. Trichophaga robinsoni nom. n. is proposed as a replacement name for the preoccupied T. abrkptella (WOLLASTON, 1858). The first record from Madeira of the family Acrolepiidae (with Acrolepiopsis vesperella (ZELLER) and the two above mentioned new species) is presented, and three species of Tineidae: Stenoptinea yaneimarmorella (MILLIÈRE), Ceratobia oxymora (MEY RICK) and Trichophaga tapetgella (LINNAEUS) are reported as new to the fauna of Madeira. The Madeiran records given for Tsychoidesfilicivora (MEYRICK) are the first records of this species outside the British Isles. Tineapellionella LINNAEUS, Monopis laevigella (DENIS & SCHIFFERMULLER) and M. imella (HÜBNER) are dele ted from the list of Lepidoptera found in Madeira. All species and their genitalia are figured, and informa tion on bionomy is presented. Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Übersicht über die drei Familien Tineidae, Epermeniidae und Acrolepiidae auf den Madeira Inseln gegeben. Die drei neuen Arten Monopis henderickxi sp. n. (Tineidae), Acrolepiopsis mauli sp. n. und A. infundibulosa sp. n. (Acrolepiidae) werden beschrieben, zwei neue Kombinationen bei den Tineidae: Cerato bia oxymora (MEYRICK) comb. -

As new species are described Tinea albomaculata from China, Tinea fiiscocostalis from Russia, Tinea kasachica from Kazachstan, and Monopis luteocostalis from Russia. The previously unknown male of Tinea semifulvelloides is described. New records for several countries for 15 species are established. Zusammenfassung Es werden die Ergebnisse der Untersuchung von Tineidenmaterial aus dem Finnish Museum of Natural History, Helsinki (FMNH), und aus dem Institute of Animal Systematics and Ecology, Siberian Zoological Museum Novosibirsk (SZMN) vorgelegt. Als neu werden beschrieben Tinea albom aculata aus China, Tinea fuscocostalis aus Russland, Tinea kasachica aus Kasachstan und Monopis luteocostalis aus Russland. Von Tinea semifitlvelloides war es möglich, das bisher unbekannte Männchen zu beschreiben. Neufunde für verschiede ne Länder wurden für 15 Arten festgestellt. Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe. -

The pests cause enormous losses both in tonnage and recovery of sugar in the mill. It is estimated about 8 to 10 percent of total sugarcane crop in the country is damaged by insects every year and this works out to a loss of 80 to 100 corers of rupees. The occurrence of drought and flood influenced the heavy buildup certain pests over large areas in epidemic from. (Siddiqui, 1960; Verma et, al. 1991). In general, the insect pest problems of sugarcane are more sever in subtropical belt than the fropical belt. Widespread use of synthetic pesticides has led to the development of pesticidal resistance in a large number of insect pests (Saxena and Khan, 1986). There has been an urgent need for selective and effective pest control methods which can be easily included in the modem pest management concept (Back, 1972) new bioactive products will be needed which are pest specific. Ecofriendly to man and other beneficial organisms biodegradable, less prone to development of pest resistance and economical viable. Insecticides of plant origin provided a substantial answer to many of the problems particularly the environmental pollution and ecofriendly in nature. -

The six species (Infurcitinea maura Petersen, 1962, Infurcitinea lambessella Petersen, 1958,Infurcitinea in certula (M eyrick, 1928), Reisserita chalcopterella (Z erny, 1935), Reisserita luteopterella Petersen, 1957, Anomalotinea cubiculella romei (Turati, 1930)) are recorded from material other than the types for the first time. -

Permethrin at 0.1% (on wool weight) was applied on fabrics at the dyeing and last scouring stages,and on wool tops at the dyeing stagein two woollen mills. Per- methrin-treated fabrics were found insectproof after 10 hand Imachine washings or 10 drycleanings or 28 days of sunlight exposure. But fabrics treated at 50-55°C and 70-75°C in the last scouring stage were not found insectproof after 10 drycleanings and 20 hand washings respectively. The treatment at higher temperatures(above 60°C) showed better exhaustionand fastnessof permethrin on the fabrics. About 1.5-10.5%of applied permethrin was lost in three and a half years storage in various climatic conditions of the country. The maximum loss of permethrin occurred in hot and high humid places.The treated fabrics and garmentswere found safeto the users. Manipulation with low temperatures is a primary nonchemical pest control method. For stored product and food industry practitioners, a knowledge of pest thermal requirements, in particular threshold temperatures at which development and other activities of a particular pest species cease, is of crucial importance. This review presents summary data regarding the lower temperature thresholds of 121 species of stored product and food industry pests from six arthropod taxa (Acari, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Psocoptera, Diptera, and Blattodea). In particular, this review collected and summarized information regarding the lower development thresholds, lower population thresholds, lower acoustic or respiratory thresholds, lower walking and flying thresholds and lower trap capture thresholds for flying and walking arthropods. The average lower development threshold (LDT) differed among orders: the lowest was reported for Acari (6.8 °C) and Diptera (8.1 °C), followed by Lepidoptera (11.3 °C) and Psocoptera (13.8 °C), and the highest was reported for Coleoptera (14 °C) and Blattodea (15 °C). -

Insects of concern are a blend of ‗household pests‘, typified by clothes moth and dermestid species, ‗timber pests‘ such as anobiid and lyctid species and ‗food pests‘ of kitchen, pantry and granary as collections are quite varied in their composition across museum, archive, library, gallery, historic properties and cultural centers. There is a distribution of scale of museums and concomitant resources to apply against all modes of deterioration, as well as accomplishing operational goals using the collections as a core resource. There is a strong need for museum pest control methods inside an integrated pest management framework to be efficacious, have minimal effect on objects, and be economical in their costs. Through the 1980‘s and 90‘s museum staff became increasingly knowledgeable about industrial hygiene, harmful substances used in preparation methods, preservative solutions and residual insecticides. Some collections have been tested for residual arsenic, mercury, DDT, and other contaminants. Fumigants were curtailed for health and environmental impact so ethylene oxide (ETO), phosphine and methyl bromide (MeBr) followed the loss of grain fumigants which had been applied as liquids in museum storage cabinets. Thermal and controlled atmosphere methods offered a way forward for many museums which found they could not continue previous practices for controlling insects on and inside their objects.
