HAPPY ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY, SKOKIEBIZ!

In the first half of 2016, the Village of Skokie continued to build on momentum generated in 2015 with increased construction projects in all sectors as well as recording notable sales and investment dollars. A prestigious new Midwest ranking and expanded communications with the national retail and international business community also have highlighted Skokie as a strong and viable location for new retail, industry and office users.

Skokie’s Optima Old Orchard, 9739 Woods Drive, is home to suburban Chicagoland’s priciest condo at $2.3 million. The 4,000-square-foot penthouse is situated in TARGET IS COMING TO ! one of three interlaced 20-story steel and glass towers (600+ units), designed and developed by David Hovey, and towering over the Edens Expressway. Skokie will soon welcome a new 33,000-square-foot Target store to the southwest corner of Dempster Street and Bronx Avenue in the heart of the Village’s West Dempster Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District. This will be Target’s first suburban Chicagoland store developed under its new ‘flexible-format’ concept and will include a pharmacy and order pick up service as well as ‘grab and go’ food items. Located in a densely populated neighborhood in a transit-oriented district, the store will have two prominent entrances from Dempster Street and at the southwest corner of the building facing the CTA Yellow Line station. Developed by BlitzLake Partners, , the store will be supported by 77 surface parking spaces and is expected to open in 2017. The new Skokie Target will produce significant sales and property taxes for the community as well as 50 to 70 jobs. Welcome, Target! In June, over 350 local runners participated in the 3rd annual Dan Horyn’s Skokie Swift 5K through the beautiful Illinois Science + Technology Park campus and along the soon-to-be expanded Skokie Valley Trail bike and walking path.

The patio at Downtown Skokie’s Euro Echo Café, 7919 Lincoln, is now open! Serving delicious coffee, paninis, gelato and more, this new independently-owned and operated coffeehouse is located across the street from the iconic Skokie Theatre.
