Supervised by DENI ELFIATI and ARIDA SUSILOWATI. Scaphium macropodum is multipurpose tree species that have main product are wood and fruit as medicine. This species has declined sharply due to overexploitation and classified into least concern according IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). Phosphate solubilizing fungiis one of the microbes which is increased the availibility and taking of P by plants. The research was conducted to get information, to isolate and identification on phosphate solubilizing fungi on soil under kembang semangkuk stand. The soil sample is taken random on a depth 0-5 cm and 5-20 cm under 12 kembang semangkuk stands. The analysis of soil samples was conducted at the Center for Oil Palm Research (PPKS), medanisolation and identification of phosphate solubilizing conducted in Soil Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Isolation used Pikovskaya media with the source fosfat from Ca3(PO4)2, whereas in the potential test used Ca3(PO4)2, AlPO4, FePO4 and Rock Phosphate (RP) as source of insoluble phosphate The result of research showed that 15 potential isolates, with 10 isolates at depth of 0-5 cm and 5 isolates at depth of 5-20 cm. The result of identification by macroscopic and microscopic observations showed all the isolates including the genus Aspergillus. Key words: Aspergillus, Kembang Semangkuk, Phosohate, Phosphate Solubilizing Fungi. iii UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA ABSTRAK SRI RATNA SARI HASIBUAN: Eksplorasi Fungi Pelarut Posfat di Bawah Tegakan Kembang Semangkuk (Scaphium macropodum) di Pos Monitoring Sikundur Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser (TNGL). Dibimbing oleh DENI ELFIATI dan ARIDA SUSILOWATI. Scaphium macropodum adalah spesies pohon multiguna yang produk utamanya adalah kayu dan buahnya sebagai obat-obatan. Akibat dari eksploitasi berlebihan, spesies ini menurun tajam sehingga masuk daftar merah IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). Fungi pelarut fosfat merupakan salah satu anggota mikroba tanah yang dapat meningkatkan ketersediaan dan pengambilan P oleh tumbuhan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan informasi, mengisolasi dan mengidentifikasi fungi pelarut fosfat dari tanah di bawah tegakan kembang semangkuk (Scaphium macropodum). Pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara acak, dengan kedalaman 0-5 cm dan 5-20 cm di bawah 12 tegakan kembang semangkuk. Analisis sifat kimia tanah dilakukan di Laboratorium Pusat Penelitian Kelapa Sawit (PPKS) serta isolasi dan identifikasi fungi pelarut posfat dilakukan di Laboratorium Biologi Tanah, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Isolasi fungi dilakukan dengan menggunakan media Pikovskaya dengan sumber fosfat Ca3(PO4)2, sedangkan untuk uji potensi media padat menggunakan sumber fosfat dari Ca3(PO4)2, AlPO4, FePO4 dan Batuan fosfat (RP). Hasil penelitian di dapatkan 15 isolat yang potensial, 10 isolat dari kedalaman 0-5 cm dan 5 isolat dari kedalaman 5-20 cm. Hasil identifikasi dengan pengamatan secara makroskopis dan mikroskopis menunjukkan semua isolat termasuk dalam genus Aspergillus. Kata kunci: Aspergillus, Fosfat, Fungi Pelarut Fosfat, Kembang Semangkuk. iv UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA RIWAYAT HIDUP Penulis bernama Sri Ratna Sari Hasibuan dilahirkan di kota Padangsidimpuan pada tanggal 12 April 1997. Penulis merupakan anak keempat dari empat bersaudara dari pasangan Bapak Daud Hasibuan dan Ibu Lamsana Harahap. Penulis memulai pendidikan di SDN 200108 Padangsidimpuan pada tahun 2003-2009, pendidikan tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama di SMPN 1 Padangsidimpuan pada tahun 2009-2012, pendidikan tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas di SMAN 1 Padangsidimpuan pada tahun 2012-2015. Pada tahun 2015, penulis lulus di Fakultas Kehutanan Universitas Sumatera Utara melalui jalur Seleksi Nasional Masuk Perguruan Tinggi Negeri (SNMPTN) Undangan Program Studi Kehutanan, Fakultas Kehutanan. Selama mengikuti perkuliahan penulis aktif dalam berbagai unit kegiatan mahasiswa (UKM) anggota aktif UKM Baytul Asyjaar (BKM) tahun 2015-2018 dan anggota aktif Rimbawan Pecinta Alam (RIMBAPALA) Fakultas Kehutanan Universitas Sumatera Utara tahun 2015-2019 dan menjadi Sekretaris Umum periode 2017-2018 serta menjadi Majelis Permusyawaratan Rimbapala (MPR) periode 2018-2019. Dan penulis pernah menjadi Asisten Praktikum Pengenalan Ekosistem Hutan (P2EH) pada tahun 2018. Penulis telah mengikuti Praktik Pengenalan Ekosistem Hutan (P2EH) di Kawasan Hutan dengan Tujuan Khusus (KHDTK) Pondok Bulu Kabupaten Simalungun Sumatera Utara pada tahun 2017. Pada tahun 2018 penulis telah menyelesaikan Praktik Kerja Lapangan (PKL) di KPH Wilayah IX Panyabungan. Beumee Ex K Heyne has long been known to have medicinal properties, one of them the Pengulu ethnic. The research aimed was to analyze the ethnobotany of merpayang utilization in the Pengulu ethnic community of Jambi. The method used in this study was qualitative. Data collection used direct interviews with informants of Pengulu ethnic community with selected by snowball sampling. Data analysis was carried out by cross checking, summarizing, synthesizing, and narrating with descriptive analysis and evaluation. The results of study showed that the Pengulu ethnic uses merpayang for traditional medicines, including heartburn, fever, laxative, hemorrhoid/Ambien, coughing, and itching. In addition to the fruit, the Pengulu ethnic uses other parts of merpayang plant, such as sap, tree skin, roots as medicines. Kawasan tapak perkhemahan ini sesuai dijadikan kawasan pembelajaran dan latihan amali bagi kursus-kursus berkaitan perhutanan dan alam sekitar. ABSTRACT An inventory at the base camp along 6 new trails recorded a total of86 species of seed plant taxa in 68 genera and 32 families. Of this number 22 timber species, 9 fruit tree species, 3 species with medicinal values and 8 species producing dye and tannins were identified. 6 Peninsular Malaysian endemics are also found here, two being new records for Selangor. This area is useful for teaching and practical training for forestry related and environmental courses. The Programme of Genetic Resource Conservation Management, Centre of Genebank and Seeds MARDI was involved in assessing the flora composition, collecting plant genetic resources as well providing preliminary plant checklist for this area in April 2016. From this survey, a total of 127 species, in details of 100 genera from 67 families were identified. Two species of Zingiberaceae from two genera, Etlingera and Boesenbergia, were inventorized and collected for germplasm collection. There were 14 species of rare and wild edible fruit species that are important for the food security and food sources for the wild animal community recorded.     This page intentionally left blank The Ecology of Trees in the Tropical Rain Forest Current knowledge of the ecology of tropical rain-forest trees is limited, with detailed information available for perhaps only a few hundred of the many thousands of species that occur. Yet a good understanding of the trees is essential to unravelling the workings of the forest itself. This book aims to summarise contemporary understanding of the ecology of tropical rain-forest trees. The emphasis is on comparative ecology, an approach that can help to identify possible adaptive trends and evolutionary constraints and which may also lead to a workable ecological classification for tree species, conceptually simplifying the rain-forest community and making it more amenable to analysis. The organisation of the book follows the life cycle of a tree, starting with the mature tree, moving on to reproduction and then considering seed germi- nation and growth to maturity. Topics covered therefore include structure and physiology, population biology, reproductive biology and regeneration. The book concludes with a critical analysis of ecological classification systems for tree species in the tropical rain forest. IAN TURNERhas considerable first-hand experience of the tropical rain forests of South-East Asia, having lived and worked in the region for more than a decade. After graduating from Oxford University, he took up a lecturing post at the National University of Singapore and is currently Assistant Director of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. He has also spent time at Harvard University as Bullard Fellow, and at Kyoto University as Guest Professor in the Center for Ecological Research.

While the reproductive biology of masting is relatively well described, the demographic consequences of masting are poorly understood. Theoretically, irregular production of seeds (masting) is less advantageous than annual fruiting for population growth, even if seed production is proportional to fruiting interval. This is related to the mortality risk between fruiting events, which needs to be compensated by a disproportional increase in seed production in order to maintain the same population growth. To assess the demographic costs of masting for Scaphium macropodum displaying masting behavior, population dynamics of this species in a tropical rain forest in West Kalimantan, Indonesia was studied using a stochastic matrix model. Our stochastic matrix model analyses of different fruiting frequencies revealed a long-term population growth rate of 1.002 for a situation in which fruiting occurs every 16 years. The average masting frequency in the region is higher than this frequency, and we therefore expect populations of our study species to be sustained. Stochastic elasticity analysis suggested that population growth rate was rather insensitive to the level and/or frequency of seed production while it was highly sensitive to adult survival.
