Yayınlayan TMMOB Mimarlar Odası İstanbul Büyükkent Şubesi Mimarlık ile tasarım pratiği ve eğitimi açılarından önemli bir kırılma noktası yaratan ve mesleğin araştırma ve tartışma alanındaki etkileri halen güncel olan Sahibi Bauhaus Okulu ve yaklaşımı, yaşam biçimlerine kadar genişleyen çerçevede yeni TMMOB Mimarlar Odası İstanbul Büyükkent Şubesi adına bakışların, sorgulamaların, reformların yaratıcısı oldu. Bu yıldönümü ise, 100 Esin Köymen yılın ardından Bauhaus düşüncesine, tarihine, kurumlarına ve dünyaya yayılan Genel Yayın Yönetmeni etkilerine yeni bir gözle bakabilmek, değerlendirmeler yapabilmek için hem Deniz İncedayı mesleki hem de düşünsel alanda önemli bir fırsat yarattı. Yazı İşleri Sorumlusu Açılış festivalinden, yeni müzelere ve sergilere, UNESCO Dünya Mirası Listesi’ne Metin Karadağ ve akademik araştırmalara kadar uzanan 100. yıl programı, Bauhaus araştırmacılarının yanı sıra Bauhaus’u sorgulayanlara, hatta hareketi yeni Yayın Kurulu keşfedenlere de zengin bir platform sunuyor. Zafer Akay, Zafer Akdemir, Esra Akbalık, Oya Akın, Gül Cephanecigil, Ayşen Ciravoğlu, Burcu Selcen Coşkun, Bizler de Mimar.ist Yayın Kurulu olarak, 2019’un bu son iki sayısında ağırlıklı İsmail Doğanyılmaz, Zeynep Eres, T. Gül Köksal, olarak Bauhaus birikimlerine yer vermeyi, küçük çaplı da olsa bu yıldönümüne Kubilay Önal, Emre Torbaoğlu, Mücella Yapıcı katılmayı planladık. Bu nedenle de dosyamız için “Bauhaus’un Uzak Yankıları” başlığını seçtik ve bu alanda ülkemizdeki değerli çalışmalardan, deneyimlerden Danışma Kurulu yararlanarak bir çerçeve oluşturduk. Bauhaus’u inceleyen, paylaşan ve tartışan Zeynep Ahunbay, Behiç Ak, Nur Akın, Ali Artun, Acar Avunduk, Afife Batur, Cengiz Bektaş, İhsan Bilgin, yazılarımızı dosyamızda ve diğer başlıklarımızda bulacaksınız. Çelen Birkan, Hasan Çakır (Almanya), Nur Esin, u sayımızda Dünya Çevre Günü’nü de kutluyoruz!     Carol’s Faves Architecture 1 Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) Frank Lloyd Wright was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years. Wright believed in designing in harmony with humanity and the environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was exemplified in Fallingwater (1935), which has been called "the best all-time work of American architecture."[1] Wright played a key role in the architectural movements of the twentieth century, influencing generations of architects worldwide through his works.[2] Wright was the pioneer of what came to be called the Prairie School movement of architecture, and he also developed the concept of the Usonian home in Broadacre City, his unique vision for urban planning in the United States. In addition to his houses, Wright designed original and innovative offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, museums, and other structures. He often designed interior elements for these buildings, as well, including furniture and stained glass. Wright wrote several books and numerous articles and was a popular lecturer in the United States and in Europe. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University and was a Lecturer in Government at Harvard from 1992 to 2006. Among her interests are Russian policies in the Middle East and the role of Russia in the Syrian civil war. Processes of urban design preservation and renewal in Tel- Aviv; HaBima Square Michal Silbiger 1 Processes of urban design preservation and renewal in Tel-Aviv; HaBima Square Based on my MA thesis at the Unit of Culture Research, Tel Aviv University (Silbiger, 2012) Urban planning and restoration have at their basis a need to allocate resources to those who build and design. The process of allotting resources is fundamentally of a social nature, combining individual intentions with communal aspirations. The theoretical framework utilized by urban sociologists to describe this process is eclectic and vastly interdisciplinary. Some sociologists of the city draw a connection between urban development and economic forces. Others call upon cultural ties based on interpersonal relationships and the multifaceted fabric that these relationships engender (also but not limited to socio-economic elements) as key points to understanding the urban makeup. The latter school of thought believes that the physical construction of the city bears testament to the beliefs and ambitions of diverse communities within the city who join forces to create the urban landscape. Such conceptualization of the forces operating within the city sees cultural symbols as a collective ideal made possible by a localization process that symbols undergo in order to make them emblematic of a given city. These symbols become hallmarks of the city, generating a local culture and forms of symbolizing it. The present paper will examine the cultural occurrences that have taken place in the case of HaBima Square from this latter multi-systemic approach, as defined by Even-Zohar (2004).

    Wilhelm Zeev Haller (1884-1956) – Life and Work of a German- Jewish-Israeli Architect by Ulrich Knufinke In the last issue of PaRDeS, an article was published about the German born architect Wilhelm Zeev Haller and his projects in Tel Aviv.1 The 100th anniversary of Tel Aviv and the 125th birthday of Haller was a good reason to make a documentation about his life and work. At the Kulturstiftung Leipzig and at the Bauhaus Center Tel Aviv, exhibitions were opened in autumn 2009, commemorating Haller’s contribution to the development of modern architec- ture in Germany and Erez Israel.2 After searching a long time for his relatives and descendants without any success, it was an exciting moment to meet his granddaughter and his step- granddaughter in Holon and Tel Aviv. An article in an Israeli newspaper about the exhibition at the Bauhaus Center made them aware of the project and they got into contact with the owner of the gallery, Micha Gross. It was wonderful to talk to people who knew Haller personally, and it was very interesting to ask them about his biography. After interviewing Haller’s family we can correct some mistakes, made in previous publications, and give some new information on his work. In the 1920s, Haller was a successful architect in Leipzig. The crisis of the late Weimar Republic, the increase of anti-Semitism and Hitler’s and the Na- tional Socialists’ rise, forced him to emigrate from Germany in 1932 or 33. Probably in touch with Zionistic circles, he went to Palestine and started to run a studio of his own in Tel Aviv.
