Were inspired by the athletes? Can remember how many medals Canada won? Can name one Canadian medal winners (or athlete)? Can name at least 3 summer Olympic sports? Knows who carried the Canadian fl ag at the closing ceremonies? Th en, using a Th ink-Pair-Share discussion structure, ask partners to discuss what is meant by the phrase “the Olympic dream”? Invite groups to share their thinking with the class. During Reading: As they read, encourage students to underline or highlight words or phrases that describe what the Olympics and the Olympic dream are all about. After Reading: Distribute to each student, or pair of students, a copy of the organizer Living the Dream (p. 8). Challenge students to use the information in the article to identify 5 key ideas that capture what the Olympics are all about using words or sketches, and then explain why each idea is important.
