Looking back on our opening two games in the League, the Glenafton at home and the HONOURS HONOURS SENIOR HONOURS Cumnock away game last week, I thought both were close run encounters which could Scottish Junior Cup Intermediate Cup SFL Division 2 have gone either way but the fact that we have only taken one point from them is very disappointing but in my opinion there have been enough positives to suggest that we’re Winners : 1941-42 Winners : 1929-30 Champions : 1975/76 capable of improving on our points tally as the season goes on. Runners-Up : 2008-09 Central League SFL Division 2 I’ve said all along that this season could prove to be the most competitive West Premier Sectional League Cup Champions : Runners-Up : 1997/98 League for many a season and if that is the case we can expect the difference between winning and losing a lot of games to be marginal. I think that is what we have seen in both Winners : 2013-14 1934-35,1940-41,1941-42, Spring Cup games so far. Runners-Up : 2005-06 1944-45,1949-50. Runners-Up : 1975/76 Over both games we have had many good chances yet only got one goal to show for it Central League Cup Intermediate League Stirlingshire Cup and that is a statistic that we will definitely have to improve on. At the other end of the pitch our defending at times in both games has been inconsistent and although we came Winners : 1932-33,1934-35, Winners : 1929-30 Winners : 1978/79 & 1979/80 out of the Cumnock game last week with a clean sheet, we had to rely on Robert Hamilton 2009-10, 2011-12, 2013-14 Pompey Cup Scottish Cup Semi-Finalists pulling off a couple of good saves in the second half to gain our first point. West of Scotland Cup 1989/90 Winners : 1951-52,1960-61 Junior Record Victory Winners : 1949-50 Evening Times Cup Today we welcome Irvine Meadow and I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how hard a task it 9-1 v Thorniewood Runners-Up : 1938-39,1955-56 Winners : 1934-35,1940- will be. Stevie Rankin has done a fantastic job at Meadow since taking over last season 41,1941-42,1944-45, 1949-50. Junior Record Defeat and they are a very hard side to play against. The fact that they have won their opening Super League Div. 1 two fixtures will , I’m sure, mean that this season will be no different and that they will be Runners –Up : Runners-Up : 2010-11 1-6 v Renfrew challenging once again at the top end of the table. 1942-43,1948-49,1952-53 Senior Record Victory Central League Div. 1 Please get behind our lads and give them as much vocal backing as possible. SENIOR HONOURS 8-1 v Arbroath Runners-Up : 2006-07 SFL Division 1 Senior Record Defeat Central League Div. 2 Onwards and upwards, Runners-Up : 1976/77 & 1-9 v Gala Fairydean Champions : 2003-04 1984/85 Billy McGhie Programme Team Manager Editor–Stevie McAneney. Against Glenafton Athletic a fortnight ago we were excellent in the first half and should Wish Bankies have been ahead with goals to spare. Unfortunately we didn't make the most of our first half dominance and were denied a clear penalty. After the break we defended the situation all the best poorly, were punished and consequently lost the game. for season What can we take from it? 2014-2015 Well, the first 45 was as good as we've played since our arrival in the top league and I think that is a real positive for the weeks to come. Last week was a different kind of game. We were less easy on the eye than the Glens game and had no complaint over the final outcome. They had the better of the chances in the second half and we leaned heavily on Robert Hamilton. But in the first half, I thought we created the better openings so a draw was a fair result. Hopefully, those who use social media have enjoyed David Brockett's recent efforts on Twitter and on Facebook, as well as keeping the news section of the website updated.

The ‘Academy’ parents presented Bobby Mc Donald and John Renwick (pictured left) with a fantastic ‘ball’ trophy during last week-ends’ Awards Ceremony at Hampden Park. Between them, they have contributed almost forty years of effort to the Academy cause. When asked if he could last another ten years Bobby Mc Donald – Director of Football commented ‘Me – no problem, but I don’t know if Renwick could last another ten years – his age seems to be getting the better of him’. We thank you ALL for this fantastic award. • The ‘Academy Champion’ Award – an Award solely selected by the Director of Football was this year awarded to School of Excellence student – Aiden Gray from Bellshill. This award links dedication, to loyalty, to skill, to ambition, to trust, to determination and of course to attitude, attendance and commitment. Well done wee man !! • I would like to take this opportunity of thanking some people with the risk of leaving some individuals out. If I have not included you …then I apologise. I may not name you personally – but you will be in there somewhere.
