The Coleopterist Cumulative Species Index, Vols 1-29 (1992-2020) The Coleopterist Cumulative Species Index, Vols 1-29 (1992-2020) Prepared by Martin Luff, December 2020 Notes: 1) Volume numbers are emboldened. 2) Volume 1 was issued in three separately paginated parts. In volume 1 therefore the parts 1-3 are in parentheses: thus ‘1(1):13’ is volume 1, part 1, page 13, ‘1(2):6’ is volume 1, part 2, page 6, etc. 3) No allowance is made for changes in nomenclature or mis-spellings in the magazine indices: the same species is often indexed under several names, sometimes even in the same volume. This applies especially to former sub-genera that are now treated as genera in the 2018 checklist, such as those in the former genus ‘Aphodius’. In such cases search for the specific name. 4) No responsibility is accepted for errors or omissions! If you find any, please email details to martin.luff@gmx.

Material was pitfall trapped in 2010 and 2011 on twelve sites of the agricultural landscape in the Prešov town and its near vicinity, Eastern Slovakia. A total of 14,763 ground beetle individuals were entrapped. Material collection resulted into 92 Carabidae species, with the following six species dominating: Poecilus cupreus, Pterostichus melanarius, Pseudoophonus rufipes, Brachinus crepitans, Anchomenus dorsalis and Poecilus versicolor. Studied habitats differed significantly in the number of entrapped individuals, activity abundance as well as representation of the carabids according to their habitat preferences and ability to fly. However, no significant distinction was observed in the diversity, evenness neither dominance.

The list was created between 1995 and 1999, and subsequently updated in response to the Species and Habitats Review Report published in 2007. The table also provides details of the species' occurrences in the four UK countries, and describes whether the species was an 'original' species (on the original list created between 1995 and 1999), or was added following the 2007 review. All original species were provided with Species Action Plans (SAPs), species statements, or are included within grouped plans or statements, whereas there are no published plans for the species added in 2007. Many Flea Beetles are among the most affective jumpers in the animal kingdom, sometimes better than their namesakes the true Fleas (Siphonaptera). However, despite some intensive study of the anatomy and function of the metafemoral spring (Barth, 1954; Ker, 1977) the true function of this jumping mechanism remains a mystery. It probably is some sort of voluntary Catch, in- volving build-up of tension from the large muscles that insert on the metafemoral spring (Fig. 1), and theo a quick release of this energy. Ofcourse some Flea Beetles jump better than others, but basically all have this internal metafemoral spring floating by attachment from large muscles in the relatively enlarged bind femoral capsule (see Fig. 1 ). In fact Flea Beetles can usually be easily separated from other beetles, including chrysomelid subfa- milies, by their greatly swollen bind femora. There are a few genera of Alticinae that have a metafemoral spring and yet do not jump. Actually there are a few genera that are considered to be Alticinae that lack the metafemo- ral spring, e. g. Orthaltica (Scherer, 1974, 1981b - as discussed in this Symposium). Also the tribe Decarthrocerini contains three genera from Africa that Wilcox (1965) con- sidered as Galerucinae, but now thinks to be intermediate between Galerucinae and Alti- cinae; at least one of these genera does have a metafemoral spring (Wilcox, personal communication, and Fürth, unpublished data).

• The Ground Beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) of Three Horticultural Farms in Lombardy, Northern Italy ()
Boll. Zool. agr. Bachic. 31 dicembre 2007 Ser. II, 39 (3): 193-209 D. LUPI, M. COLOMBO, S. FACCHINI The ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) of three horticultural farms in Lombardy, Northern Italy () Abstract - Ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) were surveyed across three hor- ticultural farms, located in a peri-urban area, in the Po plain in Lombardy (Northern Italy) from April 2003 to March 2005. Their biodiversity was estimated using pitfall traps. A total of 29 genera and 39 species were collected. Notes on ants and spiders presence were also furnished. Land use seemed to have a significant effect on the number and composition of the species: catches were lower in the conventional farm and higher in biological farms. Apart from land use, all the species detected have already been recorded as frequent in agricultural fields and are characteristic of lowland agroecosystem in Northern Italy.

Here, we analyzed the carabid assemblages and the slug abundance. Samplings took place in five different periods, across 1 yr of observations. The carabid abundances were similar in organic and conventional fields. The Shannon–Wiener diversity index H( ’) showed a higher value in the conventional fields, although in the organic fields, a higher number of species were observed.
