Waimak United Football Club SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 30th June 2018 waimakunited.org.nz COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Hello and welcome to another week of football. The in-house junior program is now well into its stride and it is great to see so many kids out there learning new skills, trying their hardest and having fun. Thanks again to all the coaches who give their time and effort to make it all possible. Many kids will be experiencing their first World Cup and trying to take what they see on the screen out into the playground during the week and then the pitch in the weekend - I still have memories of following my first World Cup many years ago. The World Cup has also provided a distraction for some of the more mature members of the club, with a few looking worse for wear after early morning viewing. The tournament has now progressed to the knockout stages, with some of the pre-tournament favourites barely making it through. I am sure we'll see a few more upsets before the final whistle is blown. Speaking of tournaments, planning is well progressed for various tournaments that our club teams will be involved in over the coming months. We are proud to be able to field 14 strong teams in the South Island Tournaments in October. This is testament to the strength and depth that we have in our Junior and Youth grades. The club is also proud to be hosting the Alan Fraser Memorial Tournament for girls in mid-July.

FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL: 1 COACH’S COMMENT DANNY HALLIGAN I FIRST TEAM HEAD COACH For the second time in a fortnight we welcome Ekow and his Coastal Spirit team to The Christchurch Football Centre. The last game we played was a cliff hanger that we managed to come out on top of and progress to the last 16 of the Chatham Cup. Tonight’s game is the last round of the MPL and even though both teams have qualified comfortably for the Southern League I am sure we both have our sights set on finishing in second position. Last week was a real slog for the boys out at Halswell Domain but we showed that we have matured as a team by adapting to the conditions and doing what was required to get the points. Tonight we are back at our home ground where we are looking to maintain our undefeated record. Finally I want to extend a warm welcome to our latest signing, Joe Hoole who joined us this week and will take his place in tonight’s matchday squad. WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 12th May 2018 www.waimakunited.org.nz Comments from the club This week our two premier teams are playing in knockout cup matches this weekend. Our Men’s CCL team are playing in round one of the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup against Coastal Spirit, beating Burnham Football Club 8 to 1 in the preliminary round. Our Women’s WPL team are up against Cashmere Technical in round one of the New Zealand Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup. Formally known as the Women’s Knockout Cup, the Kate Sheppard Cup was renamed on International Women’s Day. It is a club-based knockout competition, first played in 1994 as a pathway for players linking important strategic goals of New Zealand Football; ‘More Kiwis loving and playing football and our elite teams winning on the world stage’ (New Zealand Football). The announcement of the Kate Sheppard Cup was made on New Zealand’s 125th anniversary of New Zealand becoming the first self-governing country in which all women had the right to vote in parliamentary elections in 1893. Kate Sheppard was a pioneer for women and it is very fitting for the trophy to be named after her. The tagline for the competition is ‘Make a name for yourself’ recognising Sheppard’s achievements. The Kate Sheppard Cup will see regional teams kicking off against each other before it goes into national games at quarter finals. The final is played as a double header with the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup final as part of the traditional end of the New Zealand football season in September.

Waimak United Football Club SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 4th August 2018 waimakunited.org.nz COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Welcome all to another Weekend of Football. As the Twilight of the Season looms over us I think it is fair to say that the season has had its ups and downs and as the focus of many of our Junior and Youth Teams now starts to switches towards Tournaments in September and October I would like to take this opportunity to focus on the non playing part of our club and the thing that makes everything possible, our volunteers. I would like to thank all of the people who tirelessly give their time for the reward of seeing the players step over the white line and enjoy the beautiful game. Thank you for turning up to training when the pressure is on at work, thank you for washing the kit, planning the sessions and sending the texts and emails. Thank you for organising and turning up to fundraisers and all of the other things that you do on a weekly basis to make this club and your team possible. On that note we still have some season left to play so good luck to all of our team playing this weekend. Most of all enjoy the game, and enjoy the time you spend with your team. Win, Lose or Draw you are a team. The days when you lose are the days where you really get to know the character of the people around you in that team and that allows the team to grow.

WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Friday 8th June 2018 Saturday 9th June 2018 www.waimakunited.org.nz COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Hello all and welcome to another week of the glorious game we call football. I have had the pleasure of seeing many teams throughout all the grades play this season, the thing that makes me smile the most is the fun and enjoyment that is being had by everyone at the games. Being a parent, a coach and on the board of Waimak United FC this is something that is very important to me and I want to strengthen throughout the club. As previously reported the club is going through some changes and the admin team, with help from the board are working very hard (day & night) to bring some positive changes and a new way forward for the whole club. The team are starting to make plans for next season with some much needed changes already on the way. However we cannot possibly do this on our own, this will take the whole club to help this happen. We are as a board trying to get out amongst our players and parents to make ourselves known and to listen to your feedback on how things are going so far, and any suggestions you may have going forward. We do need help we just don't know who to ask and what you can do to help us, so please if you feel like you could make a difference even if it is just a once off do come and talk to us or drop us a line, we are more than happy to share the load.
