It was a great weekend of football, and they played extremely well. Thank you to all the teams who travelled to our tournament from all over the South Island. We were thrilled to host your teams and we hope to see you next year. We wished to thank all the volunteers over the two days; coaches, managers, referees, BBQ and tuck shop helpers, board members and parents. Without our volunteers we wouldn’t of had a tournament. Waimak United Football wish to say a big thank you to Hamish and his team at CBK Kaiapoi for hosting our Fundraising Dinner Thursday night. It was a fantastic evening with great food and company. Thank you to all those who could make it along. It was finished with Hamish handing over a cheque for $500 to the club from monies raised at our Quiz night and from the loyalty card program. WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE VS UNIVERSITIES 12.30PM KICK OFF- KENDALL PARK Coaches Comments Today we welcome Universities in our third competitive encounter with them this season. This will be a real test for both sides after an entertaining 2-0 win to Waimak last time, in which the points could have gone to either side in a real game of two halves. Khalil has done a great job with Universities over the past two seasons, establishing them as a team that can beat anyone on their day, as they have shown in recent weeks with a point against Coastal and a win against Cashmere Technical. With the league effectively over, the girls will be playing for a number of team reasons this week. We had set a goal at the start of the season to finish in the top 2, meaning a result against Universities keeps the goal achievable before our game against Cashmere Technical in the final round. Congratulations must go out to Gabi Rennie, Waimak squad captain for the 2018 season, for her inclusion in the travelling squad for the Women's u20 World Cup in France that begins in two weeks. This is a credit to her passion, leadership and performances in 2018 and the hard work and support that has got her here. Go get 'em Gabi! She will play her last game for the side today, as will Kayla Thomas, who is off to America to study and play for Radford University in Virginia. Kayla had to wait over a year for her first WPL appearance for Waimak, after tearing her ACL in a pre- season friendly against Universities in 2017. Kayla has played at both ends of the pitch this year, switching her goal scoring prowess for a role in our defensive unit to create a solid back three in the latter stages of the season. All the best Kayla and hope to see you back in the near future! Shane has also accepted a role with Northern as an assistant coach for the upcoming NWL after 3 years with Canterbury United, winning the league in 2016. I wish him all the best with his season in Auckland and look forward to smashing you when you come down to play the Pride! The final note is from myself before I head off to France with the NZ u20s, as it will be my last game for Waimak WPL. It has been a pleasure coaching such a great bunch of young women and to have seen them develop into both talented footballers and great role models for the game, not just at Waimak but in Canterbury. Coming from double digit losses two years ago, to winning ACFC u17 National Tournament, being in a position to push for the league up to the final weeks and for silverware in 2018 is a testament to the efforts on and off the pitch that the players, parents, friends and families of Waimak have put in to make the club a success in 2018. Big thank you goes out to the parents for your support and backing, even in the toughest of times; Mike and Rachele for your efforts into making my role as smooth as possible; Shane giving me the opportunity to assist you and learn from one of the best coaches in the region; and last but not least, the players. We don't get to do what we love doing without your hard work and determination and the environment you have created has been a pleasure to be a part of! All the best today and for the rest of the season. In our last outing against the Hawkes we produced a fantastic 2-0 victory and the team will be looking to take home the 3 points again against a strong side. We are coming off the back of a 2-0 loss in a very close encounter against Christchurch United, where the result could of easily gone either way. We are targeting to finish the season strong and with 3 wins out of the last 4, this will help us finish as high up the table as possible. Waimak United Football Club SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 30th June 2018 waimakunited.org.nz COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Hello and welcome to another week of football. The in-house junior program is now well into its stride and it is great to see so many kids out there learning new skills, trying their hardest and having fun. Thanks again to all the coaches who give their time and effort to make it all possible. Many kids will be experiencing their first World Cup and trying to take what they see on the screen out into the playground during the week and then the pitch in the weekend - I still have memories of following my first World Cup many years ago. The World Cup has also provided a distraction for some of the more mature members of the club, with a few looking worse for wear after early morning viewing. The tournament has now progressed to the knockout stages, with some of the pre-tournament favourites barely making it through. I am sure we'll see a few more upsets before the final whistle is blown. Speaking of tournaments, planning is well progressed for various tournaments that our club teams will be involved in over the coming months. We are proud to be able to field 14 strong teams in the South Island Tournaments in October. This is testament to the strength and depth that we have in our Junior and Youth grades. The club is also proud to be hosting the Alan Fraser Memorial Tournament for girls in mid-July.

FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL: 1 COACH’S COMMENT DANNY HALLIGAN I FIRST TEAM HEAD COACH For the second time in a fortnight we welcome Ekow and his Coastal Spirit team to The Christchurch Football Centre. The last game we played was a cliff hanger that we managed to come out on top of and progress to the last 16 of the Chatham Cup. Tonight’s game is the last round of the MPL and even though both teams have qualified comfortably for the Southern League I am sure we both have our sights set on finishing in second position. Last week was a real slog for the boys out at Halswell Domain but we showed that we have matured as a team by adapting to the conditions and doing what was required to get the points. Tonight we are back at our home ground where we are looking to maintain our undefeated record. Finally I want to extend a warm welcome to our latest signing, Joe Hoole who joined us this week and will take his place in tonight’s matchday squad. WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 12th May 2018 www.waimakunited.org.nz Comments from the club This week our two premier teams are playing in knockout cup matches this weekend. Our Men’s CCL team are playing in round one of the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup against Coastal Spirit, beating Burnham Football Club 8 to 1 in the preliminary round. Our Women’s WPL team are up against Cashmere Technical in round one of the New Zealand Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup. Formally known as the Women’s Knockout Cup, the Kate Sheppard Cup was renamed on International Women’s Day. It is a club-based knockout competition, first played in 1994 as a pathway for players linking important strategic goals of New Zealand Football; ‘More Kiwis loving and playing football and our elite teams winning on the world stage’ (New Zealand Football). The announcement of the Kate Sheppard Cup was made on New Zealand’s 125th anniversary of New Zealand becoming the first self-governing country in which all women had the right to vote in parliamentary elections in 1893. Kate Sheppard was a pioneer for women and it is very fitting for the trophy to be named after her. The tagline for the competition is ‘Make a name for yourself’ recognising Sheppard’s achievements. The Kate Sheppard Cup will see regional teams kicking off against each other before it goes into national games at quarter finals. The final is played as a double header with the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup final as part of the traditional end of the New Zealand football season in September.

Waimak United Football Club SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 4th August 2018 waimakunited.org.nz COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB Welcome all to another Weekend of Football. As the Twilight of the Season looms over us I think it is fair to say that the season has had its ups and downs and as the focus of many of our Junior and Youth Teams now starts to switches towards Tournaments in September and October I would like to take this opportunity to focus on the non playing part of our club and the thing that makes everything possible, our volunteers. I would like to thank all of the people who tirelessly give their time for the reward of seeing the players step over the white line and enjoy the beautiful game. Thank you for turning up to training when the pressure is on at work, thank you for washing the kit, planning the sessions and sending the texts and emails. Thank you for organising and turning up to fundraisers and all of the other things that you do on a weekly basis to make this club and your team possible. On that note we still have some season left to play so good luck to all of our team playing this weekend. Most of all enjoy the game, and enjoy the time you spend with your team. Win, Lose or Draw you are a team. The days when you lose are the days where you really get to know the character of the people around you in that team and that allows the team to grow.
