ADORATION

As a reminder St. Columbanus offers Adoration every Monday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. As Catholics we believe that Jesus is fully present in the Eucharist in body, blood, soul and divinity. Adora- tion is a quiet prayer time to contemplate this and show our devotion to God. During Adoration the Eucharist is put on Monstrance atop the altar and parishioners are welcome to come and sit before the Lord in silent prayer.

PARISHIONERSHIP There are many important steps to “growing up.” We can all give many examples of these steps that our children take at 18+ years old. One of those steps, that often falls under the cracks, and is no less important, is becoming an adult parish- ioner. As children we are raised in the faith by our loving parents, being baptized and taught our religious beliefs. How- ever, we choose ourselves to be Catholics during the sacrament of Confirmation. Then, when we become adults at 18 years of age, we should also register as parishioners ourselves. This is part of our steps to adulthood, not only in the physical world, but within the spiritual world with God as well. It is important that we take the reigns of our own faith and one of the steps to that is registering as a parishioner. If you are over 18 years of age and have not registered, please do so. Come to the rectory or follow the link on the parish website. Being a godparent or Confirmandi sponsor, getting married, baptizing your children are all important steps in our lives shared by God. Being a registered adult parishioner is part the preparation for those sacraments. SPONSOR FORMS Being a Sponsor (baptism or confirmation) if a great honor that comes with great responsibility. One of the steps to be- ing a sponsor is turning in a sponsor form. A sponsor form signifies that you are a Catholic in good standing who strives to attend Holy Mass weekly, follows Church doctrine and receives the sacraments (initiation, marriage in the Church, reconciliation, etc.). In order for the parish priest to sign-off on your sponsor form they must have an understanding that you are a Catholic in good standing. To this end, you must be a registered parishioner for at least 6 months prior to re- questing a sponsor form. The only exception is a 14 to 17 year old, who would still be registered under his/her parents (who must be registered parishioners themselves). April 25, 2021 ST. April 25, 2021

As we watch our country going down the atheistic road that will— and already has—led to the persecution of Catholics and other Chris- tian people.

Unfortunately, as I mentioned last week, the ignorance of Catholics has in part brought this on as nominal Catholics listen to the false platitudes of politicians and influential people and even faithless reli- gious leaders. In Ireland it is now a crime to attend Mass.

A study cited by a Catholic news organization showed that most Catholics support birth control, abortion, so-called homosexual “marriage,” while 42% believe divorce and remarriage without an

annulment is okay.

All this in a Catholic climate where even Mass goers don’t believe that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist.

We are following the path that led to the French Revolution where those who did not go along with the leaders were guillotined.

Sunday we were reminded of the necessity of holding to the whole truth of the Catholic Faith and belief in the Real Presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament when six monks of the Cistercian Order were beatified for defending the Blessed Sacrament during the French Revolution. Pope Francis commented, “In 1799, when French soldiers, in retreat from , sacked churches and monas- The Martyrdom of Simeon Cardon and his Five Com- teries, these meek disciples of Christ resisted with heroic courage, panions unto death, to defend the Eucharist from desecration,” the pope said.

In an article for CNA by Courtney Mares, she writes, “Blessed Si- méon Cardon and five other Cistercian monks were beatified on April 17 in the Italian where they were martyred more than 200 years ago.

Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided over the beatification of the six Cistercian monks in Casamari Abbey in Frosinone, Italy.

Four of the martyred monks -- Siméon Cardon, Modeste-Marie Burgen, Maturin Pitré and Albertin Marie Maisonade -- were French and had previously fled the violence of the French Revolution.

The French army, which had occupied Naples, had sacked the Benedictine monastery of Monte Cassino and other churches and monasteries while on retreat northward.

While most of the of Casamari Abbey escaped amid chaos of the looting, six monks remained to try to save the consecrated hosts in the tabernacle from desecration and were killed by the soldiers.”

I will continue to try to restore the dignity and truth of our Lord’s True Presence at the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. We can all show respect for our Lord by not holding conversation in the church before or after Mass; by dressing appro- priately for Mass; and by a proper preparation (including the sacrament of Confession) before receiving our Lord in Holy Communion.

In Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Fr. Frank Samoylo
