The Global GLOBAL RESEARCH Research COUNCIL 仁ouncil

The Global Research Council (GRC) is a vOluntary ， informal organization of heads of research councils (HORCs) from around the world ，pl edged to find mutually acceptable acceptable paths to greater inlemational research collaboration. Ils goal is 10 represenl represenl mOSI of the world's research potential by getting all interested key players in in research and research funding involved. The worldwide growth of support for research research has presented an oppo 同unity for countries large and small to wo rl< in concert concert across national borders . Cooperation and collaboration can enhance the quality quality of science ， avoid unnecessary duplicalion ， provide economies of scale ，and address issues that can only be solved by working together. Heads of research funding funding agencies have a responsibility to meet these objectives on behalf of the research research community.

To ensure a global ly consultative process and 10 improve communication and cooperation cooperation among research fund ing agencies ， the GRC annu 創Iy holds a set of reg i onal meelings as well as an annual global meeting to gather input from the different different wor ld regions ，address issues of mutual concern 10 research and research lunding lunding worldwide ，and to agree on guidelines and princip les by wh ich mu ltinationa l research research co ll aboration can be enhanced. Thereby ， the GRC shall also provide assistance assistance to those research institutions and funding organizations wishing to build a world - class research landscape.

The pu 巾oses of the Global Research Council are:

Faustino S i而eriz studied at the Faculty of Sciences ， University of B uenos Aires ，where he graduated in Bio log ica lChemistry ， getting his his P hD in 1972. He got a CON ICET post doc fellows h ip at Q ueen E li zabeth Col lege ，Un iversi ty of London 1974/1975. Researcher at at the New York State Dept of Hea lth in Albany ，NY till 1977. Fellow Fellow of the A lexander von Humboldt Foundation at University of

Konstanz in Ge rmany1984/85. Visiting Professor at TU Berlin 2007 ・2008.

Now he is Director of the CONICET ・GMP fermentation facility in Tucuman and Adviser to to the CONICE T President for international relations. Previously Previously Researcher from CONICET since 1978 ， Professor of Microbiology at the University University of Tucuman till his retirement in 2012 ， Vicerector for research at the National University University of Tucuman 200212006 ， Director of CONICET between 2004 to 2012 ， Vicepresident Vicepresident for technological affairs in CONICET (2008 /2011). His His scientific work (107 papers) is mostly in the field of microbial physiology. Use of microorganisms for the development of industrial processes tor the production of biomolecules biomolecules and fo r waste water treatment and bioremediation. Previous ly the Dean 01 Science and the D irector 01 the ANU College 01 Physica land Mathematical Sciences ， Prolessor Byrne brings w ith h im a wealth 01 industry know ledge and expe はise particu lar ly in the Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Eng ineering. Prolessor Prolessor Byrne completed a BSc and MSc degrees at the Univ .ersity 01 Auckland and a PhD degree at the ANU in 1981. He held posit ions w ith the Univers ity 01 Me lbourne and spenl spenl several years in Bonn ，Gi ermany as a von Humbo ldt fel low. He relurned 10 Ihe ANU in in 1989 as a Research Fellow and in 199 1 com menced a joint ap poinlment between the Depa 円ment 01 Phys ics ，in the Facu lty 01 Science and the Depa 円ment 01 Nuclear Physics ， Research Schoo l 01 Physical Sciences and Engineering. P asca le Ehr e nfr eund is the pres ident 01 Ihe Austr ian Sc ience Fund (FWF) since September 2013. The purpose 01 the FWF is to support support science and bas ic research in Austr ia on a h igh internationa l leve l. Thereby the FWF p lays a key ro le in Ihe development 01 the Austrian science and research landscape.
