Anjou Nature 6 (2019) : 1-3 1 Une importante population de Tétrix méridional Paratettix meridionalis (Rambur, 1838) (Orthoptera, Tetrigidae) découverte dans une exploitation horticole du nord de l’Anjou. Identification Au sein des Orthoptères, la famille des Tetrigidae est représentée en Anjou par sept espèces Plusieurs individus mâtures sont détaillés à la dénommées « Tétrix » (Mourgaud, 2012). Elles loupe à main, puis passés sous loupe binoculaire sont toutes caractérisées par leur petite taille dans les locaux de l’entreprise agricole. Il s’agit de (moins de 2 cm), leur coloration gris-brun terne et petits Tétrix à pronotum long et à carène dorsale leur affinité pour les milieux dénudés, qu’ils soient peu proéminente, de coloration générale gris humides (vasières) ou secs (carrières, pelouses sombre uni, les ailes sont longues et dépassent écorchées...). Discrets, ils ne stridulent pas et l’épine dorsale du pronotum de plus de 2 mm (3 passent ainsi facilement inaperçus aux yeux du à 4 cellules visibles au bout des ailes). L’aspect de naturaliste peu averti... Si l’on ajoute à cela des la tête est particulier, car les yeux globuleux sont critères discriminants entre espèces souvent séparés par un vertex très étroit (bien plus étroit difficiles à apprécier (y compris à l’aide d’une que la largeur d’un œil). La carène inférieure du loupe à main...), on comprend aisément qu’il reste fémur des pattes médianes paraît grossièrement encore beaucoup à apprendre sur l’écologie et la ondulée. -

Lehmann & Christian Monnerat Abstract Collections of Pygmy grasshoppers (Tetrigidae) and Tridactylidae were made on expeditions to Jordan in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012. This country is predomi- nated in great parts by arid and semi-arid habitats, mostly stony deserts. The col- lections contain a single Tridactylidae species (Xya pfaendleri) and three Tetrigi- dae species (Paratettix meridionalis, Tetrix bolivari), including the recently de- scribed new species T. monnerati Lehmann, 2014. All four species are restricted to wet habitats, mostly near wadis, and might be used as biological indicators in a water restricted country as Jordan. Zusammenfassung Bei libellenkundlichen Untersuchungen in Jordanien 2008, 2009, 2010 und 2012 konnten begleitend Dornschrecken (Tetrigidae) und Grabschrecken (Tridactyli- dae) gesammelt werden. Das gesammelte Material beinhaltet eine einzelne Grabschreckenart (Tridactylidae: Xya pfaendleri) und drei Arten von Dornschre- cken (Tetrigidae). Neben den weit verbreiteten Tetrigidae Paratettix meridionalis und Tetrix bolivari fanden wir auch eine separat beschriebene, neue Art T. mon- nerati Lehmann, 2014. Alle vier Arten kommen nur in Feuchtgebieten vor, beson- ders im Bereich der Wadis. Jordanien hat ein trockenes Klima, in weiten Teilen geprägt von Halbwüsten und Steinwüsten. -

A free parking is available in front of Campus II. The next airports are Luxembourg Findel, Frankfurt Hahn (note that this airport is closer to Trier than to Frankfurt and mainly used by Ryanair) or Saarbrücken. During weekends, a direct bus connection between the city center and campus 2 exists only for Saturdays. In this case, bus line 85 leaves the city center hourly between 10:10 a.m. and 19:10 p.m (bus station "Porta nigra"). A return to the city center is possible hourly between 09:59 a.m. and 18:59 p.m. Campus 2 can be reached earlier/later, more frequent and on Sundays by the bus line 83, bus station “Kohlenstraße”. Note that you have to calculate a ten minute walk from the bus station to campus 2. Both bus lines drive along the central train station. Beside this distributional data of species along with description of species is given. Confidently, this study will contribute to the knowledge of pygmy grasshoppers from this region. -

Acta entomologica serbica, 20 20 , 25(2): 11 -27 UDC : 595.727:574(65) DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.4028719 THE ABUNDANCE AND DIVERSITY OF GRASSHOPPER (ORTHOPTERA: CAELIFERA) ALONG AN ALTITUDINAL GRADIENT IN JIJEL DISTRICT, ALGERIA AMMAR AZIL and ABDELMADJID BENZEHRA Department of Agricultural and Forest Zoology, Higher National School of Agronomy, El-Harrach, Algiers, Algeria E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Grasshoppers (Orthoptera: Caelifera) diversity were studied in three sites at different altitude in Jijel district (North East Algeria). The insects were captured with sweep net weekly from April to August 2016. It appears that 30 Grasshopper species belonging to 4 families and 11 subfamilies were identified amongst 712 individuals. Acrididae species (25) were the most frequent. The species richness was higher at medium altitude (23 species) and high altitude (22 species) than at low altitude (18 species). Species abundance distribution fitted the Broken stick model at low and high altitude while it fitted the Geometric or Motumura model at medium altitude. Grasshopper abundance increased with the altitude while diversity was not correlated with increasing altitude since diversity indices values were high in medium altitude. They are recognized as important source of food for reptiles, amphibians, mammals and other arthropods (Doumandji & Doumandji- Mitiche, 1994) and birds (SiBachir et al ., 2001) and are also important bio-indicators because of their specific habitat preferences and sensibility to any changes in their habitats (Thomas, 2005, Guido & Gianelle, 2001; Cigliano et al ., 2011). -

However, heterospecific matings have been observed in a variety of taxa. One of these cases is the pygmy grasshopper genus Tetrix, in which three species show sexual interactions. T. ceperoi males mount preferably females of T. subulata, but they are rejected as mates. T. subulata males prefer T. undulata females over conspecific females and heterospecific matings occur. Here, we study the underlying behavioural mechanisms of this pattern by analysing the visual courtship behaviour of the three species video- graphically. We test the hypothesis that the displays of T. ceperoi are highly differentiated from the other species, while the courtship of T. subulata and T. undulata is more similar. This is supported by our results: while T. ceperoi males perform a fast movement of high amplitude (“pronotal bobbing”), the other two species show only minor movements (“lateral swinging,” “frontal swinging”). The first function of a discriminant analysis of the temporal dimensions of the displays explained 96% of the variance. 100% of the T. ceperoi displays were classified correctly, whereas only 50% of the T. subulata and 81% of the T. undulata displays were grouped accurately. A two-way ANOVA revealed no significant effects of the direction of the “swinging” movements (laterally or frontally) and no interactions between direction and species either, whereas each temporal parameter differed significantly between the three species. -

The introduction of exotic species in islands is recognized as a major threat to native biota and ecosystems. In this contribution we list thirteen widespread exotic invertebrate species (two Araneae, one Orthoptera, four Hemiptera, four Coleoptera and two Diptera) that were recorded from the Azorean Islands in the last few years for the first time. In addition, we list another ten invertebrate species (two Araneae, one Orthoptera, two Phasmatodea, one Hemiptera, three Coleoptera and one Diptera) that expanded their known range in the ar- chipelago. The pathways of entrance for species in the Azores, their impact on the local economy and biodiversity, as well as strategies to halt the introduction of alien species are discussed. Abstract This study is aimed at reporting some of the plants traditionally used in the treatment of diseases by the local people living in the centre of Torul district and its surrounding villages. A face-to-face two-part questionnaire survey was conducted with 82 local people. Identification of 29 taxa belonging to 18 families has been confirmed and their medicinal uses have been recorded. In addition, the usage patterns of plant parts and purposes are recognized. Plants are mostly used in the treatment of cold and flu, stomach disorders, gynecological, cardiovascular, and respiratory diseases. The highest use value (UV) was recorded for Rosa canina (0.54) and Mentha longifolia subsp. longifolia (0.46) and the highest Informants Consensus Factor (FIC) was cited for cold and flu (0.83) followed by stomach disorders (0.75). New information for folklore medicines have been collected from the study area. Introduction Folk medicine refers to beliefs, attitudes and behaviours about diseases and health. It is expressed as medical practices related to the beliefs, traditions and value judgment of societies or as "home therapy" by some anthropologists (Türkdoğan, 1991). Ethnobotanical is an important science that provides research opportunities to different discipline. Turkey is floristically rich comprising over 12,000 taxa under approximately 1251 genera and 174 families (Güner et al., 2012). -

Österreich, Austria; download unter www.zobodat.at Acta ZooBot Austria 155, 2018, 257–267 First insights into the Orthoptera fauna of the Vjosa River floodplain at Poçem (South Albania) Dominik Rabl & Gernot Kunz The present study gives a first overview of the grasshopper, locust and cricket (Or thoptera) fauna of the Vjosa riverine system and is a contribution to the current knowl edge of the Orthoptera fauna of Albania, which is still insufficiently recorded. At the end of April 2017, an entomological field trip was conducted to the Vjosa river flood plain at Poçem and Kut, South Albania. Orthoptera species were collected with nets and pitfall traps. A total of 22 taxa were noted and 19 taxa could be identified to spe cies level. Due to the short sampling and the early season when most of the taxa were juvenile, the presented species list is only a small subset of the total orthopteran species richness at the Vjosa riverine system. The list contains disturbancedependent species and indicator species of natural dynamic riverine systems, and the first record of the mole cricket Gryllotalpa stepposa for Albania. The Vjosa floodplain and its vicinity of fers a broad range of different habitats suitable for Orthoptera species and might be a potential hot spot of Orthoptera diversity.
