Only When I Sleep – the Corrs – Notes / Only When I Sleep – The Corrs – Notes / . Activity types : Vocabulary, rhyming pairs, gap fill. Note: This was the first single taken from Talk On Corners, The Corrs’ second album, released in 1997. 1. Brainstorming: Ask students the semantic difference between “sleep” and “dream”? Key: “To sleep” means to rest with your eyes closed and your mind and body not active; and “to dream” means to experience a series of images, events and feelings in your mind when you are asleep. (Note that you can also dream while you are awake, but you have control over this) 2. Syntactically, what kind of verbs are they? Regular or Irregular? Key: “sleep” is irregular, “dream” can be regular or irregular. 3. Elicit their past simple and past participle forms Verb / Infinitive Past Simple Past Participle TO SLEEP SLEPT SLEPT TO DREAM DREAMED/DREAMT DREAMED/DREAMT 4. Elicit as many words (verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs) related to “sleep” and “dream” as possible. Possible Key: dream, nightmare, ghost, bed, tired, asleep, brain, to sleep, to wake, to lie, to rest… 5. Play the song and ask students which, if any, of the words from the previous activity they hear. Related words in song: dreams, sleep, bed, wake, slumber, lying/ lie. 6. Write the following words on the board. Students match the rhyming pairs. breast die fly head high red skin sky within yet Key: red-head; breast-yet; skin-within; sky-fly; die-high 7. Elicit the five senses. Play the song again, and order the senses in the order they appear (in any form). One of them is not mentioned. Key: 1) SMELL 2) TOUCH 3) SEE (sight) 4) HEAR (hearing) Not mentioned:TASTE 8. Give students a copy of the worksheet. Students complete the gaps, based on their answers to the previous activities and context. 9. Play the song, students check their answers. 10. Correct and sing together. Point out that the stress in “body” (third verse) is on the second syllable, whereas it should go on the first one.     An Experiment in Autobiographical Fiction A Humanities & Arts MQP by Marc Anthony Bouchard The Choice of Autobiographical Fiction When undertaking the project of composing a narrative, a writer is set against more difficulties than mere word choice, use of imagery, metaphor, flourish and correct placement of semi-colons. Writing is a process of refinement, and only one-half of the process of composing a narrative. A successful narrative requires characters, plot, subplots, drama, tension, climatic moments, resolution, conflict and dialogue, and all the best writing in the world could not save a poorly thought out and uninteresting story from disinterest or bad reviews. When I compose a story I do not simply or magically capture ideas and characters out of the air around me, but rather create and conjure them up from the immense pools and depths of my experiences and imagination. It is perhaps impossible for any writer of fiction to not incorporate some aspect of their own life or some story which they have read into their own narratives, regardless of how it manifests itself within their work. Perhaps a writer will emulate the epic structure of The Lord of the Rings to frame a series of battles they had been in while touring Korea, or perhaps they will use the structure or concept of The Catcher in the Rye to tell their own tale of dysfunction or the lasting emotional scars of loss. Perhaps I should reflect upon the similarities of The Catcher in the Rye and A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, and how while both are amazingly similar, the former is a fiction, while the latter is an autobiography.

Shea 2020 Abstract This dissertation explores the relationship between guitar performance and the functional components of musical organization in popular-music songs from 1954 to 2019. Under an ecological theory of affordances, three distinct interdisciplinary approaches are employed: empirical analyses of two stylistically contrasting databases of popular-music song transcriptions, a motion-capture study of performances by practicing musicians local to Columbus, Ohio, and close readings of works performed and/or composed by popular- music guitarists.     Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
