THE MULTIVERSE WAS DESTROYED…ALL THAT REMAINS…IS BATTLEWORLD! CHARLES XAVIER IS DEAD, AND TO THE PUBLIC, MAGNETO APPEARS TO CARRY ON HIS FELLOW MUTANT’S LIFEWORK: HEADING BOTH THE ATOM INSTITUTE--A SCHOOL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN, HUMANS AND MUTANTS ALIKE--AND THE NEW X-MEN TEAM. BUT MAGNETO HAS BEEN HIDING AN OBJECT OF INCREDIBLE POWER: A PHOENIX EGG CONTAINING UNTOLD AMOUNTS OF PSYCHIC ENERGY. DISTURBED BY THIS NEWS, CYCLOPS, EMMA FROST, XORN AND WOLVERINE RAIDED THE ATOM INSTITUTE. IN THE ENSUING CHAOS, MAGNETO KILLED QUENTIN QUIRE, XORN VANISHED IN A FLASH OF LIGHT, MAGNETO HIMSELF WAS KILLED--AND THEN THINGS GOT WEIRD. AN ARMY OF BEASTS, FROM ALL OVER BATTLEWORLD, ATTACKED THE INSTITUTE UNDER ORDERS THAT SEEMED TO COME FROM THE PHOENIX EGG ITSELF. THE X-MEN, OLD AND NEW, INCLUDING THE REAL HANK McCOY, RALLIED TO FIGHT THE LEGION OF BEASTS. THERE WERE CASUALTIES. STEPFORD CUCKOO ESME WAS KILLED IN THE ALTERCATION. JUST AS ALL HOPE SEEMED LOST, QUENTIN QUIRE’S DEAD BODY ROSE WITH THE MIND OF CHARLES XAVIER AND HE RALLIED HIS X-MEN. AFTER STERILIZING THE SUBLIME INFECTION WITH HIS VAST MENTAL POWER, XAVIER ANNOUNCED THAT THE BATTLE HAD ONLY BEGUN! THE PHOENIX EGG HAS HATCHED! THE X-MEN’S FINAL FOE HAS EMERGED! Her Own Heroine: Feminism and Diversity in the Comic Book Industry
Panel Title: Her Own Heroine: Feminism and Diversity in the Comic Book Industry Moderator: Patricia B. Worrall, Ph.D. English Department University of North Georgia [email protected] First Speaker: Veronica Harris English Department University of North Georgia [email protected] Title: “Breaking the Mold: Ororo Munroe and the Entertainment Industry” Proposal: Throughout the history and development of comic books, there has been adaptations of the characters to different media venues. Storm, or Ororo Munroe, is no exception. She comes from the African country of Kenya born to a native woman and American man. Her mother comes from a line of priestesses said to hold mystical powers to protect their tribes. At a young age, she experiences a tragic plane crashing into her home, which traps her under her mother’s body and rubble. She develops claustrophobic tendencies, which awaken her powers. Later in life, she comes to teach at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, i.e. mutants, and becomes one of the most powerful X-Men. Representations of Storm occur in many different forms of visual media, such as movies and comics. However, the medium of film limits the development of her backstory and heritage because of the film industry’s shift to an emphasis and focus on white males taken from comics. This shift has resulted in restricting and restraining women of color. On the other hand, cartoons, such as Wolverine and the X-Men and X-Men Evolution , do provide some space for her. Although even in comic space restricts and restrains women of color and becomes analogous to Storm’s claustrophobia. -

See X-Statix, below, for the Omnibus that collects these issues and a description of the run. Yay Congrats on season 5! Upon X-Force's return to the present, they capture Mystique and argue over whether or not to kill Evan. A must buy. Conn — Thanks so much for the catch! Other than that, I feel like Wolverine is the only character that doesn't really shine through in this book. List vol. Jan 18, Eric rated it really liked it. Lastly we have Mark Brooks. I had also had some ideas of what I had heard so many good things about Remender's "Uncanny X-Force" and having read some of his other works and enjoying them, I was looking forward to reading this collection when I found it at the library. Amazon Music Stream millions of songs. More From Various. Co-stars Dr. Remender obviously knows these characters well. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. The team faces The Final Horsemen and suffers pestilence and plagues in graphic detail: boils and pustules rupture while Wolverine is nearly cleaved in half by an axe-wielding avatar of War. I will definitely be picking up volume 2 of this really soon. A heavy reliance on past events, clunky pacing, and questionable ret-cons were some of the lows. -

The fifth instalment of the XMen films, Days of Future Past, cost about $200 million to make, and has grossed almost $750 million worldwide. Twothirds of that money was made outside of the U.S., while for the previous films in the series, the proportion was about half. The film began with an established global audience from the previous films, and built upon it. While film adaptations of comics need not be completely bound by their source material, the ways in which changes were made between the Days of Future Past comic story and its film version all point in the same direction—to deleting, sidelining, and stereotyping female characters. -
