The wire snares are fastened to trees and aim to catch a kudu around the neck as they pass. Crudely made, the snares could take a long time to strangle the animal.

  • TALES from the BANGER KITCHEN During the Course of Feeding the Hungry Masses at Wall Street, One Has Encountered Some Pretty Strange Dudes Over the Years
ell, what a busy year it is turning out to be. Since W the last Banter, we entered a team in the Pattaya 10’s and nearly took first prize. Unfortunately the youth- ful Southerners took it away. Then came the Phuket 10’s. This year I was part of the touring party and I can vouch for those who said it was a great tour. There are some photos on the ensuing pages which give you an insight into how we won the Plate and how as a bunch of “Convicts” impressed the locals as well as visitors. Next, came the visit of Jonah Lomu and Steve Thomp- son to Bangkok. They put in a lot of time at Pattana on the Saturday coaching the kids and then attended a Charity dinner in the evening. It was a great few days while they were here with lots of photo opportunities. Bangers rugby shirts were given to them which they both immediately wore. The evening also inspired some unusual behaviour and the subject of a new t-shirt. Then the annual Bangers Golf Day. Very well organ- ised. It was a great day even if I only made 9 holes be- fore collapsing (it was the heat). • Theatre, Rugby and Samoan Masculine Identities
1 Victoria University of Wellington School of English, Film, Theatre and Media Studies Blackout: Theatre, Rugby and Samoan Masculine identities Sepelini Mua’au A thesis submitted to the University of Wellington in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of a Masters in Arts (Theatre) 2016 2 Blackout: Theatre, Rugby and Samoan Masculine identities Abstract This thesis examines key ideas concerning masculinity and Samoan identity, focusing on the external and internal pressures placed on Pacific Island athletes in New Zealand and abroad to inform the development of an original script, Blackout. In 2014, as part of an Honours script-writing course, I wrote a first draft for my first full- length play. Inspired by the work of Samoan playwright Oscar Kightley, Blackout is a play that intersects the story of four young Pacific Island boys in their last year of College with the journey of a talented young Pacific Islander in his mid-20s trying to make his way in the Professional Rugby world. This thesis is part of a practice- based research project, comprising a 60% theory-based thesis (25,000 words) and 40% practical component, developing the script through three workshop productions. The two working questions the thesis and production process centre on are, firstly how the experiences of young second generation Samoan males can be explored through a contemporary theatre text, enabling the research to develop the story and characters of the play. The second, how the development of this script can enhance an understanding of what it is to be an emerging playwright, grounding the piece in personal experiences and contributing discoveries for young Pacific Playwrights.

Member Profile - Richard Young (Richie) – Club Captain for 4 Seasons 1994 to 1998 (1st XV Caps 202, 1st XV Player of The Season 1996-97) Education Crookhill Infant/Junior School years and years ago. Ryton Comprehensive. Newcastle College. Employment Left school and began an engineering apprenticeship with Huwood on Team Valley Gateshead who made mining machinery back when coal mines were still a thing but only just. I was made redundant at the end of my apprenticeship due to the decline of mining. I walked straight into a role with Metro Radio as a roadie setting up and organising road shows and public events. 1988 – 2018 - I had the pleasure of doing the job I always wanted to do right from the days of watching John Thaw and Dennis Waterman in The Sweeney. I was a Police Officer with Northumbria Police making it to the dizzy heights of a Shift Sergeant for the last 11 years of my service. These 30 years were some of the best I could have ever imagined both working and rugby wise. It is basically because of the police I ended up playing at Morpeth R.F.C. Upon completion and retiring from the force I had to do something, so upon seeing an advert for a driver’s job at Lloyd BMW in Newcastle I applied and I’m currently working there at the moment. Collecting and delivering cars around the country. BMW cars nice cars but overpriced for a German badge. Favourite Music I listen to every type of music except Rap and RnB.

  • NEWARK RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB the First Seventy Five Years
NEWARK RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB The First Seventy Five Years A.J.COLEMAN Foreword. The first mention of Rugby in the Newark area is a paragraph in a book, Football the Rugby Union Game, published in 1891. This states that the Hull Club, formed in 1865, played a type of Rugby and amongst its opponents were Newark, whom they played four times a year. A search through the Newark Advertisers and Heralds of that time and an investigation by the R.F.U. cannot offer any information, but one possibility is that there may have been a Military Unit stationed in the area who played this handling game. Dr. Ernest Ringrose, a Rugby fanatic arrived at Newark in the 1880's. The "little" doctor as he was affectionately known, a talented player with Old Merchant Taylors Club soon tried to enthuse the people of Newark into the game of Rugby Football. On December 19th 1891, a challenge match took place on the Sconce Hills between a team from Newark and a team from Nottingham. The Newark team was composed from the people of Newark to "this side of Bingham". This match is assumed to be the first to be played in Newark although a press caption of several issues prior to the event states "that Newarkers do not often enjoy the chance of seeing Rugby Football" giving further claim that there had been a Military Unit playing a type of Rugby Football. The match details which were reported in both the local Newspapers (although they could not agree on the score) and allowing a little poetic licence went as follows: "Newark Rugby lads are a hardy lot for this game they played alongside a group of iceskaters.
