Alors, si possible, évitez les anniversaires et autres repas chez Grand-Mère ces jours-là. Merci. 28 Sep : Red Star – RAC 10-5 ; 05 Oct : Dunkerque – RAC 5-13 ; 12 Oct : RAC – Versailles 6-11 ; 09 Nov : Amiens – RAC 49-10 ; 15 Nov : RAC – Compiègne 7-8 ; 07 Déc : Conflans – RAC (22 Mar) ; 14 Déc : RAC – Clamart (29 Mar) ; 11 Jan : RAC – Red Star ; Samedi 17 Jan (17h00) : RAC – Dunkerque ; 01 Fév : Versailles – RAC ; 08 Fév : RAC – Amiens ; 15 Mar : Compiègne - RAC Un déplacement douloureux à Amiens, où pourtant la première période était porteuse d’espoirs face à un adversaire dans nos cordes (10-14). Et puis le néant, nous encaissons un 0-35 ! Après l’encourageante opposition face à Versailles, nous retombons bien bas. Au rugby, il est impensable de subir comme vous l’avez fait, sans vous révolter. (Haut : Vincent, Simon, Jules, Martin, Jean-Baptiste, Pablo, Lothaire, Florian, Loïc, Aurélien, Alexis ; Bas : Malcolm, Martin, Gauthier, Bassam, Louis, Valentin, Julien, Anthony, Thibault) Heureusement, il y eu ensuite le match face à Compiègne. Malgré une nouvelle défaite (7-8), vous nous avez fait plaisir, jouant vraiment en équipe. Reste à savoir scorer dans les temps forts pour ne plus être à la merci de l’adversaire, comme cela s’est passé lors de cette rencontre. Hormis le naufrage à Amiens, les trois défaites le sont avec des écarts de 5 points maximum, soit la valeur d’un essai. Vous n’êtes donc pas si loin que ça de vos vainqueurs. Un peu plus d’application et de réalisme peut-être... Avant ce match, Stéphane Regnault (Vygon), a remis les nouveaux maillots à nos Juniors, leur rappelant au passage de profiter pleinement de leurs années rugby, histoire de se fabriquer des souvenirs impérissables. (Stéphane Regnault, troisième en partant de la droite, en haut.) Pour ceux d’entre vous qui l’ignorent, voici d’où vient le nom de cette compétition réservée aux Juniors (moins de 18 ans depuis cette saison). C’est le nom d’un joueur de l’AS Montferrand (Jean-François Phliponeau, ailier, deux sélections en 1973), décédé en plein match, abattu par la foudre, le 8 mai 1976. Une stèle rappelle ce drame au stade Michelin. Son nom a été donné également à une tribune de ce stade en 2007. (Notez l’erreur malheureuse au sujet de l’orthographe, sur la tribune) Les histoires du rugby par Koxe Deuxième article de la série des « grands » moments du XV de France : The try of the century Il est bien évidemment très difficile de choisir le plus bel essai du XXème siècle : - « L’essai du bout du monde » de Jean-Luc Sadourny en 1994 contre la Nouvelle- Zélande ? - Celui de Serge Blanco en demi-finale de coupe du monde contre l’Australie en 1987 ? - L’essai de Jonah Lomu en ½ finale de coupe du monde en 1995 ? - L’essai du prince Alexandre Obolensky lors de la première victoire du XV de la Rose contre les All Blacks le 4 janvier 1936 où il traversa tout le terrain. L’ailier russe, qui disputa deux « Varsity Matchs » avec l’équipe des « dark blues » de l’université d’Oxford contre les « light blues » de l’université de Cambridge, donnera sa vie à l’âge de 24 ans pour son pays d’accueil, dans son Hawker Hurricane, durant la fameuse bataille d’Angleterre. - Ou encore l’essai de Gareth Edwards lors du mémorable Barbarians – All Blacks de 1973 ? C’est cependant l’essai de notre actuel entraîneur de l’équipe de France, Philippe Saint-André, contre l’Angleterre à Twickenham le 16 mars 1991 (victoire de l’Angleterre 21-19), qui a été désigné comme « the try of century » par les fans britanniques du journal The Telegraph . (Programme et billet du match, collection personnelle de K.Echevarrieta) Le XV de la Rose présentait sa fameuse deuxième ligne de policemen, Wade Dooley et Paul Ackford, leur solide première ligne composée des piliers Jason Leonard et Jeff Probyn et du talonneur « sans dents » Brian Moore, le capitaine Will « sorry good game » Carling qui aurait eu une liaison avec Lady Di, et l’élégant Jeremy Guscott au centre. Enfin, à l’aile, Rory Underwood, pilote de la Royal Air Force, comme le Prince Obolensky. (Saint-André auteur de l’essai du siècle, actuel sélectionneur du XV de France) Le XV de France présentait une belle équipe également avec l’immense Philippe Sella au centre, associé à Franck Mesnel (un des fondateurs de la marque Eden Park et membre du « Showbizz »*), l’élégant Serge Blanco à l’arrière, l’ouvreur Didier Camberabero (fils de Guy et neveu de Lilian qui avaient remporté le premier grand chelem en 1968), le deuxième ligne Michel Tachdjian du Racing (formé à Clamart et qu’on voit régulièrement au tournoi des écoles de Rugby du Racing) et les deux piliers basques, Pascal Ondarts et Grégoire Lascubé (qui sera expulsé un an plus tard contre l’équipe d’Angleterre en compagnie de Vincent Moscato, particulièrement chaud ce jour-là !). Jean-Baptiste Lafond raconte : « Berbizier aplatit dans l'en-but après une pénalité ratée par les Anglais. Blanco l'appelle et « Berbize » lui donne. Serge (Blanco) tire un bord et me transmet le ballon que je donne extérieur à Philippe Sella. Philippe passe à Didier Camberabero qui fait un petit numéro avec coup de pied à suivre pour lui-même puis coup de pied de recentrage pour Saint-André qui marque entre les poteaux ». (visible sur You Tube : essai du siècle 1991) Cet essai restera dans ma mémoire car j’y ai assisté au 7 ème rang du stade de Twickenham, avec mon frère Xabi. Nous avions été invités par notre vieux copain Ian (R.I.P.) du NatWest R.F.C. Ian tenait la gérance d’un pub irlandais de la banlieue de Londres, le Maple Tree, à Penge et nous avions ensuite fêté dignement la Saint-Patrick à la Guinness au milieu des chants si mélancoliques de la verte Erin. Un week-end merveilleux pour nous tous, sauf pour le vieux douanier qui a ouvert mon sac au retour, à l’aéroport international d’Heathrow. Il aurait, d’après Xabi, qui en rit encore, pris illico presto sa retraite ! Showbizz* : « quintet » composé de joueurs des lignes arrières du Racing des années 85-90 (Franck Mesnel, Eric Blanc, Philippe Guillard, Yvon Rousset et Jean-Baptiste Lafond ; photo ci-dessous ). Ce nom a été trouvé par Philippe Roux, ancien deuxième ligne du Racing et père de membres du RAC (Candice, Sébastien et Maxime) et qui vient régulièrement aux fêtes de notre club. Des nouvelles du RAC Les « Lutins », que nous suivons depuis leur arrivée au club en 2012-2013 afin de voir combien arriveront en Seniors, ont fondu comme neige au soleil : 14 en 2012-2013 ; 10 en 2013-2014 et seulement 5 cette saison ! Sont encore là Raphaël Boutor, Mathias Chambeaud, Antoine Cuffaut, Paul De La Tousche et Charles Larrain. Les Cadets (M16) vont bien, merci. Champions d’Ile de France en Minimes la saison passée, ils sont co-leaders de leur poule, après une victoire à Amiens (10-0). Il reste encore quelques matchs d’ici là, mais la rencontre face au Red Star, l’autre leader, le 6 décembre au stade du Parc voudra sûrement le coup d’oeil. Venez les encourager ! (Des sourires après la victoire à Amiens.) Nos Féminines ont enchaîné trois rencontres ce mois-ci. Après une belle victoire face au SCUF, deux sévères défaites (à Montigny et au Racing Nanterre). L’apprentissage... Mais les filles ne se découragent pas, gardant un excellent moral. Elles ont même eu l’opportunité d’évoluer face au Racing Nanterre sur la pelouse du stade Yves du Manoir, en lever de rideau du match de Top 14, Racing vs Bayonne ! Face à une équipe venue d’une autre planète, les Rueilloises ont été valeureuses. Ne lâchant rien, parfois dans la douleur. Bravo ! C’est avec des matchs comme ça que vous allez vous construire. Et toujours, comme souvent quand le RAC joue, des supporteurs enthousiastes et bruyants... Prochain rendez-vous au stade du Parc, le 30 novembre, face à Marcoussis. (Jamais nos Féminines n’ont fermé le jeu, malgré la différence de niveau.) Nos Seniors poursuivent leur saison, de manière plus que correcte. Il est vrai qu’ils ont su s’adapter à un calendrier fait presque sur mesure. Après une défaite à Ris-Orangis (un des cadors de la poule), les Rueillois ont battu Epernay au stade du Parc, dans les derniers instants d’un match éprouvant pour les nerfs de ses supporteurs (21-20). Mais ça compte aussi... Même série pour la Réserve, face aux mêmes adversaires, où les ex-Juniors continuent de faire leurs gammes. Prochain rendez-vous au stade du Parc, le 23 novembre, face à Pontault-Combault. (Le capitaine montre la voie…) 28 ème Balle Ovale (Olivier Barbe, maillot vert, lors de la remise des coupes) Quelques chiffres pour résumer ces 4 demi-journées d’initiation au rugby : 702 gamins, 27 classes, 15 « éducateurs » (certains ont posé des congés pour participer !). Ajoutez-y des sourires et une météo très clémente. Merci à Olivier, maître d’ouvrage de cette opération de séduction auprès des écoliers rueillois.     Rugby legend and ex-RAF pilot Rory Underwood’s top tips on how to get your civilian career off to a flying start By Laura Joint for Equipped Magazine England’s record try scorer Rory Underwood MBE is a perfect example of how it’s possible to achieve success at the highest level in completely different environments. The former Leicester, Bedford, England and British & Irish Lions winger was an RAF pilot throughout his rugby years and successfully adapted his skills – such as teamwork and decision-making – so that they were equally effective whether on a rugby field or in an RAF jet. Rory has now transferred his skills to business, as boss of his performance consultancy firm, Wingman, based in Grantham. So he’s well placed when it comes to offering guidance on how to use and build your skillset, whatever the arena. The arena most of us associate Rory with, of course, is Twickenham. His 85 England caps spanned 12 years from 1984-1996. His debut, as a 20-year-old against Ireland, came only a year after his first game for Leicester – a club he was to play for until 1997. His international career also included all six British & Irish Lions Tests in the two tours to Australia and New Zealand in 1989 and 1993. In his 85 appearances for England he scored 49 tries – an England record that’s unlikely to be broken soon, if ever: “I can’t see it being broken in the near future,” Rory told Equipped. “There’s nobody currently playing who is anywhere near even second place in the list (Will Greenwood and Ben Cohen share second spot with 31 tries).

Employment Left school and began an engineering apprenticeship with Huwood on Team Valley Gateshead who made mining machinery back when coal mines were still a thing but only just. I was made redundant at the end of my apprenticeship due to the decline of mining. I walked straight into a role with Metro Radio as a roadie setting up and organising road shows and public events. 1988 – 2018 - I had the pleasure of doing the job I always wanted to do right from the days of watching John Thaw and Dennis Waterman in The Sweeney. I was a Police Officer with Northumbria Police making it to the dizzy heights of a Shift Sergeant for the last 11 years of my service. These 30 years were some of the best I could have ever imagined both working and rugby wise. It is basically because of the police I ended up playing at Morpeth R.F.C. Upon completion and retiring from the force I had to do something, so upon seeing an advert for a driver’s job at Lloyd BMW in Newcastle I applied and I’m currently working there at the moment. Collecting and delivering cars around the country. BMW cars nice cars but overpriced for a German badge. Favourite Music I listen to every type of music except Rap and RnB.
