Premier Club Maritime Odyssey Nova Scotia, PEI & New Brunswick 10 Days, 9 Nights July 10 – 19, 2022 Premier Club Maritime Odyssey Nova Scotia, PEI & New Brunswick 10 Days, 9 Nights July 10 – 19, 2022 Day One – Sunday, July 10th: Halifax, Nova Scotia As we fly into Nova Scotia’s Capital City, Halifax, we will begin our journey that will take us to the treasures of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. We will be greeted by our Tour Guide and will transfer to our hotel in Halifax via deluxe motor coach. It is a late arrival so we will settle into our hotel and get ready to tour in the morning. Day Two – Monday, July 11th: Halifax (B, D) This morning we will enjoy breakfast in the tranquil and picturesque village of Peggy's Cove. Huge granite boulders are scattered throughout this quaint fishing village, which makes this destination a well-known place for tourists, artists, and photographers. Peggy's Cove Light, an old lighthouse standing on a massive granite ledge, serves as Canada's only post office located in a lighthouse. When we return to Halifax, we will visit the Maritime Museum. This museum gives a great history of the region and nation with a terrific exhibit on the Titanic. We will have time to enjoy lunch on our own along the waterfront. This afternoon we will enjoy a city tour of Halifax beginning with the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, one of the most famous Canadian cemeteries. In addition to many of the city's business and cultural elite, as well as many victims of the Halifax Explosion, Fairview Cemetery contains the largest number of graves in the world from the sinking of the Titanic. Afterwards, we will enjoy a visit to the Halifax Public Gardens, the oldest and finest formal Victorian garden in North America. This evening we will enjoy a delicious dinner downtown. Day Three – Tuesday, July 12th: Cape Breton (B, D) This morning, following breakfast, we will head towards Cape Breton Island for a two-night stay. Upon arrival, we will visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum which overlooks the Bras d’Or Lake. This complex, with its three exhibit halls, contains the largest collection of Bell's artifacts and inventions, including replicas of the first telephones and a full-scale model of the HD-4 hydrofoil craft. Why did Bell choose to build his Canadian residence in Baddeck, Cape Breton Island? Here are his own words: "I have travelled the globe. I have seen the Canadian and American Rockies, the Andes and the Alps and the highlands of Scotland, but for simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all." Day Four – Wednesday, July 13th: Cape Breton (B, D) After breakfast, we will explore one of nature’s magnificent regions – the stunning Cabot Trail. Named for famous explorer John Cabot, the Cabot Trail winds around the rocky splendor of Cape Breton’s northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. This magnificent highway is carved into the sides of mountains that rise high above the shimmering waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Lookouts offer unforgettable vistas of Cape Breton’s rugged coastline, where pods of whales can often be seen just offshore and bald eagles soar aloft on the ocean breezes. This evening we will enjoy a delightful dinner at our hotel. Day Five – Thursday, July 14th: PEI (B, D) This morning, we will pack our bags, enjoy breakfast, and board the motor coach for the next part of our journey. We will ferry across the Northumberland Strait into Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island. We will arrive in Charlottetown, where we will have a city tour of this seaside provincial capital. Province House is the home of the Provincial Legislature and host of the historical 1864 Charlottetown Conference. We will have a chance to wander around the waterfront this afternoon to shop and enjoy the sights. We will have time to relax at our hotel and enjoy dinner tonight. Day Six – Friday, July 15th: PEI (B, L) Today after breakfast, we will enjoy a full day on this delightful island experiencing all the things residents and visitors alike find so endearing. We will enjoy “Anne’s Land,” including a visit to the Prince Edward Island Preserve Company, one of the most popular stops in Prince Edward Island; the beautiful setting alone will impress you. Lunch is included at the Preserve company where each dish is prepared with the freshest ingredients the island has to offer. Over the last century, millions of readers from around the world have come to know and love Anne of Green Gables™, and Prince Edward Island is where devotees come to celebrate her. The region is a spectacular piece of Prince Edward Island’s acclaimed scenic landscape composed of red sandstone cliffs, white sand beaches and rolling farm fields. Some of the classic coastline has been protected in the PEI National Park which hugs the central north shore. Dinner will be on our own this evening. Day Seven – Saturday, July 16th: Acadian Coast (B, Lobster Cruise) Following breakfast this morning, we will cross the incredible Confederation Bridge, which spans nine miles of the Northumberland Strait and connects PEI to New Brunswick. Once in New Brunswick, we will spend the day along the Acadian Coast from Shediac to Bouctouche where the French culture is alive and well. We will experience Le Pays de la Sagouine, which is a recreated Acadian Village and tells the story of an Acadian washerwoman and her life in early Acadian times. We will also visit the fabulous Dunes of Bouctouche an Irving Eco-Centre preserve along the shore. We will then head to the resort town of Shediac, New Brunswick, “lobster capital of the world”. Group photo opportunity with the largest lobster in the world! Our friends at Shediac Bay Cruises will take us on a memorable 2 ½ hour lobster lunch educational cruise. “Lobstertales,” as they are locally known, offers the most experiential and educational lobster stop anywhere! Get up close and personal with Captain Ron Cormier, help the crew pull in traps, hear the history and significance of lobster fishing in the region, then learn how to cook, crack, and eat your lobster – the New Brunswick way! (BBQ chicken and vegetarian substitutes offered). We will check into our hotel in Moncton for the night. Day Eight – Sunday, July 17th: Saint John (B, D) This morning we will pack our bags, enjoy breakfast, and board the motor coach for the next part of our journey. We will travel to the site of Hopewell Rocks where 50-foot tides have carved the world’s largest “flowerpots” out of the cliffs. Nowhere else on earth are the tides as high as in the Bay of Fundy and we will return home with incredible pictures and memories of this experience! We will visit the Fundy National Park on our way to Saint John, where we will stay for the next night. We will tour the city and visit the spectacle of the Reversing Rapids, which takes place just before the Saint John River enters the Bay of Fundy. The Reversing Rapids are caused when the river must pass through a narrow gorge and by the huge rise and fall of the tides in the Bay of Fundy. Day Nine – Monday, July 18th: Halifax (B, D) This morning after breakfast, we will catch the Digby Ferry and head across the incredible Bay of Fundy to Digby, Nova Scotia. Upon arrival, we will travel the Evangeline Trail heading to Grand Pre-National Historic Site where the Memorial Church, a stone structure of French design, stands as a memorial to the Acadians and houses an exhibit on the deportation of these people. This story has been immortalized by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s epic poem “Evangeline,” for which stands a statue in the middle of this 20-acre garden. This evening we will enjoy our final night and a farewell dinner at a local restaurant in Halifax. Day Ten – Tuesday, July 19th: Home (B) It is time to bid farewell to the Canadian Maritimes! We will head to Halifax airport to catch our flight home taking with us many fond memories of our Maritime experience. The data upon which the analysis rests was collected through participant observation as well as qualitative interviews and surveys. The first chapter consists of a brief overview of traditional foodways in Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as a summary of the current state of the tourism industry. As well, the methodology which underpins the study is presented. Chapter two examines the historical origins of culinary tourism and the development of the idea in the Canadian context. The chapter ends with a description of Newfoundland and Labrador's current culinary marketing campaign, "A Taste of Newfoundland and Labrador." With particular attention to folklore scholarship, the course of academic attention to foodways and tourism, both separately and in tandem, is documented in chapter three. The second part of the thesis consists of three case studies. Chapter four examines the uses of seal flipper pie in hegemonic discourse about the province and its culture. Fried foods, specifically fried fish, potatoes and cod tongues, provide the starting point for a discussion of changing attitudes toward food, health and the obligations of citizenry in chapter five.

Antonine Maillets La Sagouine : Interdisziplinäre Begegnungen in der Akadie Georg A. Kaiser & Florian Freitag 1 (Konstanz/Mainz) 1. • Peggy's Cove Master Plan Appendices
From: Develop Nova Scotia Date: March 9, 2021 Re: Context for Final Report: Comprehensive Master Plan for Peggy’s Cove (Phase I) The Final Report: Comprehensive Master Plan for Peggy’s Cove (Phase I) prepared by EDM Planning Services Ltd., and Associates, dated November 2019, is a summary of in-depth consultation and analysis completed with Peggy’s Cove residents, community representatives and key stakeholders. The study provides possible design solutions and other recommendations to address issues raised throughout the process. Ongoing work with community and stakeholders helped to prioritize project recommendations that addressed challenges for residents, business operators and visitors to Peggy’s Cove. A Project Working Group, comprising government representatives and resident representatives, was established to provide further guidance and input during a detailed design of priority projects. This input, as well as ongoing input from government partners and stakeholders, during detailed design and implementation planning phase has resulted in refinements and alterations to most initial plans, in some cases significant changes in scope and nature. A public Peggy’s Cove Implementation Plan is almost complete that will outline the projects moving forward and the status of recommendations that have not advanced at this time. The governance section of the report reflects issues raised by residents, community members and key stakeholders including the Peggy’s Cove Commission, as well as preliminary recommendations for additional study or consideration in any future bylaw or governance review. The Peggy’s Cove Commission previously recognized the need for a review of the land use bylaw. Since the completion of the Master Plan study, the Commission, with support from the province’s Department of Inclusive Economic Growth, has advanced this work and is expected to carry out a formal review in 2021.
