In this Commonwealth Classroom program, viewers will learn about beers enjoyed by the 17th-century English colonists who arrived in this region, the growth of lagers in the 19th century, prohibition and its impact on brewing, and the craft beer revolution. “We’re very proud to join up with this team of experts for this series, with proceeds going to Ardent Helps RVA, which provides emergency grants for food service workers in crisis,” said Michael Plumb, VMHC Vice President for Guest Engagement. “We think it is vitally important to give back in this pandemic.” Every Thursday in May, local brewers whose libations reflect specific periods in Richmond’s beer history will provide tasting notes and information about their beers. Participants are encouraged to purchase beers from local retailers prior to the class so that can raise a social-distanced pint together. The cost per class is $6 for members of the VMHC or Richmond Beeristoric and $8 per class for non-members. Participants who register for all four classes in this series receive a discount: $20 for all four classes for members of the VMHC or Richmond Beeristoric and $25 for non-members.

Case Study - D.G. Yuengling & Son The Situation Over the past ten years, D.G. Yuengling & Son has experienced incredible growth as the brand continues to expand to the West Coast. In 2010, the brewing empire realized they were just “getting by” with two independent and outdated ERP systems to manage operations in their Pennsylvania and Florida locations. It became clear that it would not be possible to successfully expand their distribution without uprooting that foundation. “We were doing a lot of manual work and DEACOM ERP has made it easier for our employees to ensure only the best quality beer is being distributed, while also increasing productivity.” - Wendy Yuengling-Baker, Chief Administration Officer INDUSTRY WEBSITE LOCATION: CRITICAL BUSINESS ISSUES: Beverage www.yuengling.com Pottsville, PA Centralizing Data Between Tampa, FL Facilities; Expansion / Scalability; Process Control Case Study - D.G. Yuengling & Son The Challenge These incompatible systems were causing duplicated processes, limited access to data, and an inability to generate effective and accurate reports. Significant manual data entry was required, resulting in high risk of human error and a lack of confidence in their data. In addition, the systems were used primarily for accounting, order entry and invoicing, and did not incorporate the operations side of the business, sales & marketing, point-of-sale, or gift shop sales. Based in Pottsville, PA, D. G. Yuengling & Son, America’s Oldest Brewery, is family owned and operated since 1829. Yuengling produces about 2.5 million barrels annually, operating two Pennsylvania facilities, and a brewery in Tampa, Florida. Principal beer brands include Traditional Lager, Light Lager, Premium, Light, Black & Tan, Dark Brewed Porter, and Lord Chesterfield Ale.
