Hay que señalar, que tros haber pasado en sentido ascendente la Cruz Grande, éste toma el nombre pro~io de El Paso de la Plata, que conduce a los Llanos de Pargana, cuya Impresionante h~h"rnd".d'fi"'~d"'i·ii ~ ITINE RA RI O CRUZ DE TEJEDA •TERO o PQmllll1 AMINOS CEALES RDE GRAN CANARIA I GENERALIDADES ---, I El camino que desde las Cumbres de Gran Canaria desciende hasta Tcror, se inicia en la Cruz de Tejerla a I 1.509 m. de altitud, en la divisoria central de la isla, un punto, con un contraste paisajístico muy acusado. De una parte, al Oeste la caldera de Tejerla: un paisaje duro, que Unamuno definió como tempestad petrificada, de gran riqueza histÓrico·cultural, geúl6gica, geomorfológica y floristica, y donde se encuenlrdn los símbolos geomorfológicos miÍs identificativos de nuestra isla: el Roque Nublo y el Bcntayga; de otra, en la vertiente orientada al Este, más húmeda, la cabecera del barranco Guiniguada, donde destaca el pinar de repoblación de la cumbre y el Valle agrícola de Las Lagunetas, es esta orientación por donde discurre el camino que se presenta en cstc Parcial 11. Todo el itinerario discurre sobre el antiguo camino que desde Valleseco, Firgas y Teror remontaba a la cumbre, del que perduran tramos empedrados o escalones tallados en la roca quedan idea de 10 transitado que fue. VALLE DE AGAETE ICru~ d" Tejed,] Art..n,lt;.l lo.. 8crraz,¡lIc!01 Parcial/I/ lfhJ AMINOS CEALES RDE GRAN CANARIA ~ GENERALIDADES ~ El itinerario de este Parcial 111 se divide en dos panes: un ,« Tramo que va desde la Cruz de Tejcda al núcleo urbano de Artenara y un 2", desde Artenara a Los Berrazales, en el Valle de Agacte, y que pasa por el barrio artesanal de Los Lugarej~ y los pagos de El Hornillo y El Sao Este 1« Tramo es una combinación de antiguos senderos, atajos y pistas forestales, que discurre a caballo entre el borde de la Caldera de Tejerla, a la vista de los macizos del Geste y la vertiente Norte Insular, entre pinar de repoblación y retamares. A medio camino, se encuentra el asentamiento aborigen de Cueva de Caballeros y ya, en el casco de Artenara, el Sanluariodc la Virgen de la Cucvita, excavada y labrada en la misma montaña, de gran tradición en las Cumbres. El Z' namo discurre sobre las piedras de un bcUisimo camino que data de tiempos anteriores a la conquista, Pasa por El Hornillo, un núcleo de población que posee uno de los conjuntos de terrazas colgadas y cuevas habitadas más interesantes y mejor conservadas de la Isla, que mantiene hasta nuestros días una vida ancestral y de respeto e intcgración en el medio. El camino que baja a los Bcrrazales muestra una variada nora propia de las medianias, desde el rosalilloyla bicacarera hasta la tabaibayel cardón. En cada vuelta el sendero sorprende con panorámicas siempre cambiantes: antiguos molinos, pagos como El sao. curiosos rincones...     G E O G R A F Í A 68 ENSENADAS Y PUERTOS DE GRAN CANARIA ENSENADAS Y PUERTOS DE GRAN CANARIA P O R ALFREDO MEDEROS MARTÍN y GABRIEL ESCRIBANO COBO RESUMEN En Gran Canaria, durante el período precedente a la conquista, el puer- to de Gando fue el punto habitual de desembarco. Simultáneamente, el puerto de Sardina, por su cercanía a la antigua capital aborigen de Gáldar, ocupó una segunda posición hasta inicios del siglo XVI. Durante la primera mitad del siglo XVI, la producción de azúcar dio protagonismo a los puertos de Agaete, Sardina y Melenara, pero con la progresiva crisis del azúcar canario por la competencia americana, duran- te la segunda mitad del siglo XVI, sólo se mantuvo el puerto de Melenara, por su proximidad a la ciudad de Telde. A partir del siglo XVII el comercio fue centralizado en el puerto de la Isleta de Las Palmas, mientras varios puertos locales intervinieron en el comercio interinsular, como Melenara, Gando, Juan Grande, Arguineguín, La Aldea, Agaete y Juncal, situación que no experimentó cambios hasta finales del siglo XIX. Desde la creación del gran puerto-refugio de la Luz en 1883, el tráfico maritimo se ha concentrado en su práctica totalidad alrededor de Las Palmas. Palabras clave: Islas Canarias. Gran Canaria.     Noticias de Firgas referentes a 1931 José Juan Sosa Rodríguez. En España, el año 1931 fue una época de grandes cambios, no solamente políticos, como la caída de la monarquía de Alfonso XIII, la proclamación de la II República y la promulgación de la Constitución de1931. También, en parte debido a los aires democráticos que trajo el nuevo régimen político, en parte a la reacción popular ante el régimen Alfonsino, y en la mayoría de los casos arrastrados por el populismo de unos grupos de ideólogos -muchos de ellos apostados en posicionamientos radicales-, el pueblo español se vio envuelto en una serie de transformaciones ideológicas, religiosas y culturales que, manipuladas por grupos de fanáticos e intolerantes, en muchos casos se materializaron en conductas violentas contra los miembros del clero, políticos o pensadores, a los que se les suponía enemigos del nuevo orden establecido. Ante esta crispación social, es muy fácil entender como en muchas ocasiones la gente optaba por "tomarse la justicia por su mano", proliferando de este modo la adquisición de armas de fuego ilegales por parte de los ciudadanos. Por supuesto, el municipio de Firgas no estaba al margen de la situación convulsa que vivía el resto España, lo que de alguna forma puede explicar la cantidad de armas ilícitas que, como se verá, estaban en posesión de la vecindad. On this, the second ‘Go Slow’ tour, we were able to enjoy some of the best of the island’s rugged volcanic scenery, appreciating the contrasts between the different habitats such as the bird- and flower-rich Laurel forest and the dramatic ravines, and the bare rain-starved slopes of the south. The sunset from the edge of the Big Caldera in the central mountains, the wonderful boat trip, with our close encounters with Atlantic Spotted Dolphins and Cory’s Shearwater, the Gran Canarian Blue Chaffinch and the vagrant Abyssinian Roller, the echoes of past cultures in the caves of Guayadeque, and the beauty of the Botanic Garden with its Giant Lizards were just some of the many highlights. There was also time to relax and enjoy the pools in our delightful hotel overlooking the sea. Good weather with plenty of sunshine, comfortable accommodation, delicious food and great company all made for an excellent week.
