PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

The programme educational objective of the undergraduate programme in history take into consideration the university mission and the constituents’ needs by producing graduates who, in their first years after graduation, will be able to:

1. Familiarize the social, economic, political and cultural developments in India from prehistory upto the Delhi Sultanate, focusing on socio economic developments and not on dynastic history, with elements of change and continuity in Indian history. Study the trends and developments in India during the Mughal and the British periods, emphasizing on Socio- Economic and cultural patterns in understanding the polity and society upto the National Movement from 1850 to 1950. 2. Study the major developments in the world from the decline of the feudal age to the French revolution. Explore major developments in the modern world during the two World Wars that led to the emergence of the Cold War Era. 3. Familiarize with the major trends of the Political, Social and Economic Developments in North East India from 1822 to the reorganization of States 1972 viz, First Anglo-Burmese War and the Treaty of Yandaboo, Consolidation of British Rule in the Hills-Khasi, Garo, Mizo Hills etc. 4. Understand the major political, economic, social and military forces that shaped the history of the USA from colonial days to the Second World War. 5. Study of ancient history to the nature of archaeological data, its method and the multidisciplinary approaches to the study of past societies under the themes viz., Basic concepts in Archaeology, Field methods, Reconstruction and Interpretation of evidence and Archaeology in India.  Disciplinary Knowledge and Skills Capable ofdemonstrating (i) good knowledge and understanding of major concepts, theoretical principlesand experimental findings in History and its different subfields. including broader interdisciplinary subfields like Economics, Life sciences,

Environmental sciences, Computer science, Information Technology etc. (ii) ability to use modern instrumentation and Archives techniques to design and study is highly desirable in almost all the fields of History listed above in(i).

 Skilled Communicator Ability to transmit complex technical information relating all areas in History in a clear and concise manner in writing and oral ability to present complex and technical concepts in a simple language for betterunderstanding.  Critical Thinker and Problem Solver: Ability to employ critical thinking and efficient problem solving skills in all the basic areas ofHistory.  Sense of Inquiry: Capability for asking relevant/appropriate questions relating to the issues and problems in the field of History, and planning, executing and reporting the results of a theoretical or experimentalinvestigation.  Team Player/Worker: Capable of working effectively in diverse teams in both class room, laboratory, History workshop and in industry and field- basedsituations.  Skilled Project Manager: Capable of identifying/mobilizing appropriate resources required for a project, and manage a project through to completion, while observing responsible and ethical scientific conduct; and safety and laboratory hygiene regulations and practices.  Digitally Efficient: Capable of using computers for simulation studies in History and computation and appropriate software for numerical and statistical analysis of data, and employing modern e-library search tools like Inflibnet, various websites of the renowned History labs. to locate, retrieve, and evaluate History information.  Ethical Awareness / Reasoning: The graduate should be capable of demonstrating ability to think and analyze rationally with modern and scientific outlook and identify ethical issues related to one's work, avoid unethical behavior such as fabrication, falsification or misrepresentation of data or committing plagiarism, not adhering to intellectual property rights, and adopting objectives, unbiased and truthful actions in all aspects ofwork.

 National and International Perspective: The graduates should be able to develop a national as well as international perspective for their career in the chosen field of the academic activities. They should prepare themselves during
