PREFACE

With sincerity and honesty, we at Sundarrao More Arts and Commerce College, Poladpur, Dist. Raigad (M.S.) would like to submit this second AQAR to NAAC. The college has been accredited and received C+ grade by NAAC on 3rd May 2004.

The main achievements of the college in this year can be summed up as follows :

1. Organization of Inter-collegiate Wrestling Competition on 27th September 2006 2. Organization of first Late R.D. Chitre Inter-collegiate Collegiate Elocution Competition on 16th January 2007 3. Winning of Fourth Prize in Inter-collegiate Collegiate Folk Dance Competition 4. Completion of Ph. D. by Prof. S. A. Butala of Geography Department

We believe that all these achievements are a result of “Quality Consciousness” created in the psyche of our college by NAAC. Activities reflecting 1 the goals and objectives of the Institution:

The Mission statement our college is: Higher Education for the deprived ones. To achieve this mission we have kept before us certain goals and objectives. Some of the activities undertaken by the college in this year towards achieving these objectives are as follows :

 Objective: To impart higher education to educationally deprived students:

In the academic year 2006-07, 368 students took admission in the college. Out of which 198 are girl students who otherwise would have been deprived of higher education, as there is no other facility of higher education available in this remote and hilly area. Schemes and activities undertaken by our college, such as Group Insurance Scheme, various scholarships, freeships, Book–Bank Scheme etc have proved very useful to encourage economically backward students of this area to take up higher education.

 Objective: To develop overall personality of the students

To ensure overall personality development of our students, various committees and departments of the college have undertaken following activities in the academic year 2006-07.

Students also participated in Pulse Polio, Red Ribbon and Nirmal Gram Yojana programs. H. N.S.S. students assisted in relief operations in a fire accident tragedy that happened at Poladpur Bazar Peth on 15th Feb 2007. I. The participation of N.S.S. volunteers in various camps and programs is as follows : 1. 4 students participated in pre-R.D. Parade selection camp at C.K.T. college, Panvel on 10th Sep 2006. 2. 2 students participated in national level and state level pre-R.D. Parade Camp at and Satara respectively, from 27th Oct to 5th Nov 2006. 3. 3 students participated in Western Zone Inter State Special N.S.S. camp organized by Gogte Joglekar College, Ratanagiri from 29th Oct to 7th Nov 2006.

2. Cultural Cultural Activities Committee encouraged students to take part in various Activities inter-collegiate and university level competitions. College, Alibag on 30th July 2006. 2. 2 students participated in Prabodhan inter-collegiate elocution competition at on 24th September 2006. 3. One students participated in inter-collegiate essay competition and submitted her essay to University of Mumbai on 28th Oct 2006. 4. 2 students participated in inter-collegiate elocution competition organized by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College, Mahad on 22nd Dec 2006.

ACHIEVEMNTS : 1. Won the fourth prize in inter-collegiate folk dance competition organized by Pillai Group of Institutes on 22nd Sep 2006 2. Won ‘Appreciation Prize’ in poetry writing competition organized by Maharashtra State Journalists' Association.

PERFORMANCE :

1. Students performed a street play on victims of dowry at Women’s Gatherings on 30th Nov 2006. 2. Students performed street play on 8th March 2007 to celebrate world Women's Day. 3. Annual Cultural program was organized on 29th Jan 2007.  Apart from these, Cultural Activities Committee was involved in organizing first R.D. Chitre Memorial inter-collegiate competition on 16th January 2007.

3) Sports Sports Committee encouraged students to participate in various Committee competitions and tournaments. The details of the same are as follows:

1. Boys' team participated in inter-collegiate kabaddi tournaments at C.K.T. College, Panvel, Dist. Raigad on 13th Sep 2006. 2. Girls’ team also participated in inter-collegiate kabaddi tournaments at C.K.T. college, Panvel Dist – Raigad on 15th Sep 2006. 3. One student participated in inter-collegiate weight-lifting competition at Sonubhau Baswant College, Shahapur, Dist-Thane on 14th Oct 06. 4. One girl student participated in inter-collegiate wrestling competition organized by the college on 27th Sep 2006.  Besides this, sports committee was actively involved in organizing wrestling competitions on 27th Sep 2006.  College level sports tournaments were organized from 18th to 24th Jan 2007 5. 12 students participated in Maha Marathon on 20th Dec 2006.

4) Career 1. Organized a Guest Lecture by Mr. Milind Chutake, a solution provider, Guidance from Mangaon on 10th July 2006, on Career Opportunities in Computer Cell and I.T. field. 2. Organized career Books Exhibition on 20th December 2006. 3. 12 students participated in Mahabuddhiman Spardha organized by Jivan Vijay Pratishthan, . 4. Students were encouraged to participate in one day workshop on 9th Feb 2007 organized by Pune based IT company, DewSoft.

Such and many other programs have certainly proved helpful in developing the personality of the students.

 Objective: To equip students with skills to enable them to be employed

The college has provided an opportunity of computer education through MS-CIT course of M.K.C.L. This year 57 students were benefited by this course. The class for spoken English was also conducted by Department of English.

 Objective: To provide platform for students by encouraging them to take part in cultural, Sports and Extra Curricular Activities.

In the academic year 2006-2007 students were encouraged to participate in various activities and competitions which are already mentioned.

 Objective: To inculcate civic values among students to make them responsible citizens of India

1. Program on 'Community Policing’ was organized on 9th Nov 2006. In this program local police officers gave information about duties, responsibilities and expectations of ideal citizen. 2. N.S.S. students participated in pulse polio, Blood Donation programs. 3. The college organized “Disaster Management Workshop” on 23rd February 2007. In this workshop Shri. Rajendra Mulik, from Yashda, Pune demonstrated ‘Safety with Cooking Gas Cylinder and Precautionary Measures’.

New Academic Programs 2 initiated:

In this year college has started English subject as a special subject for Third year B.A. students. We started this subject for the First year B.A. class in the year 2004-05.

This year college has also received permission to start Personal Contact Program Centers (PCP) from Department of Distance Education, University of Mumbai. However, we could not start the same because of delay in permission procedure.

1. N.S.S students assisted in relief and rescue work which was carried for fire-stricken people of Poladpur. The tragedy occurred at Poladpur Bazarpeth on 15th Feb 2007 due explosion of LPG Cylinders. It caused damage to the tune of Rs. 3 Crores. 2. The staff members of the college also raised relief fund for the victims of the fire tragedy. 3. N.S.S Department organized Blood Donation Camp on 30th November 2006. 4. N.S.S. organized a residential camp at Katetali Village where activities such as repairing of village roads and cleaning of village ponds. 5. N.S.S. volunteers actively participated in the program launched by Government for the eradication of polio i.e. Pulse Polio program. 6. Prof. N. L. Rathod from Department of Economics delivered a lecture on importance and functioning of Mahila Bachat Gats (saving groups of women) before a women's gathering organized by local NGO Sahayog Pratishthan on 19th Nov 2006. 7. Prof. Sudhakar Jadhav, Lecturer of Psychology, delivered a lecture as a resource person at workshop organized for aanganwadi, balwadi teachers on 21st Aug 2006. Courses in which Student Assessment of 23 Teachers is Introduced and the Action Taken on Student Feedback:

A four-point-scale feedback form aimed at judging the general impression and teacher’s performance was used. The feedback revealed students’ perception about teachers, which was communicated to them, and this helps them for introspection and correction.

Besides this form, we have introduced a “General Feedback form“ in this year. This feedback form is aimed at judging the students' opinions about office service, principal’s performance etc. It also offers them an opportunity to express their views, to give their suggestions about improvement in various things related with college educations. All these views, opinions and suggestions by students are taken into consideration while making future plans for college.

The college organized a meeting of past students on 27th March 2007. 53 past students participated in this meeting.

31 Parent-Teacher Association

Parents visited the college and consulted teachers about the progress of their wards and teachers provided them personal and professional guidance. On 15th February 2007, meeting of parent was organized. Issues like role of parents, their expectations from college etc were discussed in this meeting.

32 Health Center

Although, we do not have formal Health Care Centre, we organized General Health Check Up Camp on 15th December 2006. Doctors from Government Hospital and Primary Health Centre were invited in this camp. A separate form comprising all important information about students' health was prepared. In this free camp, Doctors made check up of every student, recorded observations and guided the student for further treatment if necessary.

College has established “Guidance and Counseling Committee”. During the admissions and examination period, this committee provides guidance to the students and suggests the path better careers.

Career Guidance Cell (CGC) of the college provides various information to the students by regularly displaying advertisements related to job opportunities in Central Govt., State Govt., Semi-Govt, Private and Co-operative Sectors. Separate library of books for competitive exams is made available to the students. In addition to this, the cell has also undertaken following activities :

F) Inter-Collegiate Wrestling Competition organized by College

To actively participate in Sesqui-Centennial celebrations of University of Mumbai, the college organized inter-collegiate wrestling competition. This is a first ever University level competition organized by the college. The event took place on 27th Sep 2006. 101 students from 27 colleges participated in this competition. B.N.N. College, Bhiwandi, Dist. Thane won the General Championship.

G) R. D. Chitre Memorial Inter-collegiate Elocution Competition organized by the college on 16th January 2007.

With the co-operation of local citizens the college has started R.D. Chitre Inter- collegiate Elocution Competition from this academic year. The Competition is organized to encourage the students form North Ratanagiri and South Raigad Districts by providing suitable platform to express their views and thoughts. 12 participants of 6 colleges participated in the competition. Attractive cash prizes and certificates were awarded to winners of this competition.

H) Prof. S. A. Butala, from Geography department has been awarded Ph.D. degree by Dr. B.A. University, Aurangabad. The topic of his research is "Agricultural Irrigation of Backward Region –A case study of Aurangabad”.

I) This year we have received official permission to start “Students’ Cooperative stores" by concerned authorities.

J) In this year, the college and Sanstha submitted proposals to the University for (i) Permanent Affiliation (ii) Permission to start Science Faculty and (iii) Permission for starting Law College.

K) The program of "Community Policing" was organized on 9th Nov 2006, in which local police officials informed students about nature and functioning of the police department. They also discussed about their expectations from citizens.
