The project, funded by DFID and administered by the World Bank, had the overall objective of ―transforming the way in which Acehnese youth deal with conflict, away from adversarial approaches towards cooperative solutions‖. It lasted 10 months and included four main activity components: trainings on media production and conflict management; outreach events in each of nine working districts; Aceh Youth View Report presenting youth issues to local decision makers, and; production and broadcasting of two youth radio programs (see Annex III, for more details). Some of the positive impacts of the AYRP pilot include: All participants and radio presenters acquired knowledge in media production and conflict resolution; most of the participants now use expertise learned from AYRP for other jobs; AYRP enhanced -

Monday 7 January 2019 FULL CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR THE WEST END TRANSFER OF HOME, I’M DARLING As rehearsals begin, casting is announced for the West End transfer of the National Theatre and Theatr Clwyd’s critically acclaimed co-production of Home, I’m Darling, a new play by Laura Wade, directed by Theatre Clwyd Artistic Director Tamara Harvey, featuring Katherine Parkinson, which begins performances at the Duke of York’s Theatre on 26 January. Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Humans) reprises her acclaimed role as Judy, in Laura Wade’s fizzing comedy about one woman’s quest to be the perfect 1950’s housewife. She is joined by Sara Gregory as Alex and Richard Harrington as Johnny (for the West End run, with tour casting for the role of Johnny to be announced), reprising the roles they played at Theatr Clwyd and the National Theatre in 2018. Charlie Allen, Susan Brown (Sylvia), Ellie Burrow, Siubhan Harrison (Fran), Jane MacFarlane and Hywel Morgan (Marcus) complete the cast. Home, I’m Darling will play at the Duke of York’s Theatre until 13 April 2019, with a press night on Tuesday 5 February. The production will then tour to the Theatre Royal Bath, and The Lowry, Salford, before returning to Theatr Clwyd following a sold out run in July 2018. Home, I’m Darling is co-produced in the West End and on tour with Fiery Angel. How happily married are the happily married? Every couple needs a little fantasy to keep their marriage sparkling. The year before I had listened with excitement to the launch of our local commercial station, Liverpool's Radio City, and wanted to find out what other stations I might be able to pick up. For nutidens unge er musik – lige meget hvilken genre – lettilgængelig. Måske kan filmen ”The Boat that rocked” hjælpe dem til at forstå, at sådan var det ikke i ti-året 1958-1968. Det er en løst fortalt komedie, der tager tilløb til nogle små historier, dels om nogle af personerne på pirat-radio-skibet, dels om ministeren og hans nærmeste embedsmand, som er -1- www.filmorientering.dk deres fjender. Richard Curtis har givet Kenneth Branagh frit løb i en vild parodi på en snæversynet konservativ politiker. Desværre kan Branaghs minister-portræt give det fejlagtige indtryk, at der er tale om en konservativ regerings-leder, men i årene 1964-1970 havde England en Labour regering under Harold Wilson. Philip Seymour Hoffman kan noteres for endnu en god rolle som én af Radio Rocks disc- jockeys, en amerikansk indvandrer, indfølt og præcist portrætteret, og på samme niveau er Bill Nighy, der føjer endnu en usædvanlig rolle til sine brede palet. På radioskibet er det ellers den unge Carl, som er vi tilskueres indgang til det sælsomme univers, men det virker som en belemring, at vi skal bruge en masse tid på Carls seksuelle debut og hans søgen efter den ukendte far, og filmens slutning spolerer slutdramaet med en fjollet overraskelse. -

WRITING AND REPORTING FOR RADIO PREPARED FOR AFGHANISTAN JOURNALISM EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (AJEEP) By Henry Tenenbaum (Send comments and questions to: [email protected]) FOR INSTRUCTORS AND ADMINISTRATORS: This course was prepared as a basic college-level introduction to Radio Writing and Reporting. It assumes that students will have a basic academic knowledge about Journalism but limited practical experience. It should be an excellent introduction for those who wish to pursue additional, technical radio skills. It is also useful for print and television Journalists, since many of the skills involved cross over into others aspects of reporting. There are no prerequisite technical skills like recording or editing for this course. Students are not expected to have learned or mastered the use of recorders like the Zoom or editing software such as Audition or Audacity (see below for ALTERNATIVE ADAPTATIONS of this curriculum). The course also recognizes that students may not have easy access to hardware and software. It is designed for any classroom in any college, without requiring individual computer stations and specific hardware or software. Therefore, it does NOT cover the technical mechanics of radio beyond very basic use of a microphone. As a result, the course is, by necessity, text-based. It requires students to create written versions of audio reports. It focuses on writing and content selection, two skills that are primary for reporters in any medium. ALTERNATIVE ADAPTATIONS: It is possible to create a longer, “hands-on” version of this course that would include recording and editing. This would require an appropriate technology-equipped classroom and additional lab-oriented sessions. -

Once we heard the happy sound of a music hungry bunch of servicemen, yelling for more whatever we had to offer, we knew that we could never enjoy a more satisfying pay off in our lives”. - -- Major Glenn Miller, September 14, 1944 Establishing the American Forces Network (AFN) in Britain Until June 7, 1944, radio programming for the allied armed forces based in the United Kingdom was provided by distinct British and American services. The American radio operation was the American Forces Network (AFN). American personnel stationed in the United Kingdom did not enjoy or appreciate the programming of the BBC, which they found dull and stiff. The answer was to create a radio network specifically for the Americans; many thousands of whom, the BBC realized, would soon arrive in their nation. Before the Americans began to arrive during 1942, the BBC had created a separate radio service for its own forces, the General Forces Programme (GFP); realizing that service personnel serving at home and abroad would require different radio programs than the civilian population. British and Commonwealth forces also wanted to hear American popular music and variety programming. As Americans arrived, the BBC felt obliged to help establish an American radio presence. The BBC GFP had organized features aimed specifically at Commonwealth personnel, including recordings of American popular music and variety content.
