What is Rainbow Reel Tokyo (Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival)?① ●The oldest event in Japan’s LGBT community RRT is the one of the oldest LGBT community events in Japan and will mark its 27th anniversary in 2018. Over the years, we have selected and screened the best LGBT films of all genres from around the world, including documentaries, narrative films and musicals with strong entertainment value. ●The one and only large-scale LGBT entertainment event in Japan Many gay and lesbian films are now being produced around the world, and in recent years there has also been an increase in the number of films opening in mainstream theaters in Japan. Unfortunately, what is screened only represents a tiny fraction of what is available. However, this film festival not only screens films selected for their excellence from around the world, but also documentaries and short films difficult to screen in general theaters. This film festival also attracts tremendous attention because of its growing tradition of inviting directors and actors for talks or special performances during the special premiere screenings of selected films. In 2015, the nonprofit organization Rainbow Reel Tokyo was established as the event’s governing body. Accordingly, “Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival” changed its name to “Rainbow Reel Tokyo”, as we continue to endeavour to become a bridge between sexuality and cultural activities. 2 What’s RRT(TILGFF)? What is Rainbow Reel Tokyo (Tokyo International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival)?② ●RRT is an inclusive festival with “laughter, tears and having a think” Although this film festival is one of the biggest film festivals for sexual minorities, it has received unprecedented support from heterosexual attendees. More than one-third of attendees are heterosexual according to a survey from the film festival. This makes it an enjoyable event where everyone can laugh, cry, feel and think together regardless of their sexual identity. There is no additionally no age limit as we are aim to be a film festival that everybody, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy. ●Creating a visual representation, and spreading the fun of LGBT culture by film Today, more and more people are accepting their sexual identity and coming out in Japan. The people around us and society are rapidly learning and coming to understand LGBT individuals. Greetings from the stage On days 3 and 4 of the festival, greetings from the stage, talk shows and Q&A sessions were held. Guests included director Tomoko TAKAHASHI, actresses Tsukino YAMAMOTO & Miyu WAGAWA and film writer Masamichi YOSHIHIRO from the film You Are The Sea (right); Director Samantha LEE from Maybe Tomorrow (bottom left); and planning/casting/producer Chizuru AZUMA and director Genki MASUDA from I am what I am. – Over the Rainbow (bottom right). 6 Pre-show/Post-show Events Pre-show/Post-show Events (25th) Opening Event Before the opening film “Summertime”, a talk event was held between Asako Makimura, a TV personality/writer, and Hideki Miyazawa, the committee director of Rainbow Reel Tokyo. Ms. Makimura spoke about her relationship with the film festival and about how she “came out”. “I want us to learn about LGBT history. I don’t want us to relive its sad parts or to throw stones at each other.” Her touching words and heartfilled dream made the opening of our 25th festival so special. Greetings from the Stage On the second day at Spiral Hall, Takuro Nakamura and Kaihei Shiota, the director and the producer of “West North West” greeted the audience. Mr. Nakamura spoke about how he came to direct the film. “High Heels Revolution!” was shown on the third day at Spiral Hall, and the film’s leads Natsuki Majikina, Tatsuomi Hamada (who performed Natsuki in the school days wonderfully) and director Yo Kohatsu greeted us from the stage. Their speech told of the sincerity that was put into the film. Closing Event At the event before the closing film “Paris 05:59”, Esmeralda, a horror drag queen, greeted us as MC. Together with the RRT director Mr. Miyazawa, she spoke to guests Madame Bonjour Janji, the head of the community center akta, and the DELIVERY BOYS. They talked about their activity at akta and the latest information on HIV. In addition, the DELIVERY BOYS surprised the whole audience with a free condoms giveaway provided by TENGA. This all made for a perfect and meaningful event for the closing of 7 the film festival. Furthermore, they will award the TEDDY Jury Award. Gizem Bayiksel was born in Ankara in 1989. She has been working as a photographer and ​ cinematographer in the film industry for over 5 years. Since 2012 she has also been working for numerous events and film festivals as a coordinator, programmer and film curator. Currently she is the festival coordinator and programmer of Pink Life QueerFest, the first and only queer film festival in Turkey. Pink Life QueerFest was launched in Ankara in 2011 and the festival is a space for LGBTQI individuals and artists to raise awareness for LGBTQI issues. Bayiksel’s personal interest in film and photography focuses on the female gaze and queer theory. She is currently working on her first feature film project, a sequel for her short “Child’s Play”, relating a lesbian couple's story with Turkish politics on the background. Sachiko Imai is the programming director of Rainbow Reel Tokyo (formerly known as Tokyo ​ International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival), which is one of the longest-running LGBT film festivals in Asia. Sachiko studied screenwriting at Nihon University College of Art where she received a Bachelor Degree in Film.

    Japanese Journal of Religious Studies 1993 20/2-3 The Myth of the Goddess of the Undersea World and the Tale of Empress Jingu’s Subjugation of Silla Akima Toshio In prewar Japan, the mythical tale of Empress Jingii’s 神功皇后 conquest of the Korean kingdoms comprised an important part of elementary school history education, and was utilized to justify Japan5s coloniza­ tion of Korea. After the war the same story came to be interpreted by some Japanese historians—most prominently Egami Namio— as proof or the exact opposite, namely, as evidence of a conquest of Japan by a people of nomadic origin who came from Korea. This theory, known as the horse-rider theory, has found more than a few enthusiastic sup­ porters amone Korean historians and the Japanese reading public, as well as some Western scholars. There are also several Japanese spe­ cialists in Japanese history and Japan-Korea relations who have been influenced by the theory, although most have not accepted the idea (Egami himself started as a specialist in the history of northeast Asia).1 * The first draft of this essay was written during my fellowship with the International Research Center for Japanese Studies, and was read in a seminar organized by the institu­ tion on 31 January 199丄. 1 am indebted to all researchers at the center who participated in the seminar for their many valuable suggestions.     MEDIA RELEASE Queer Screen’s Mardi Gras Film Festival Turns the Spotlight on Asia Hosting the Asia Pacific Queer Film Festival Alliance Monday 23 January 2017: A long-term champion of Asian Pacific queer cinema, Queer Screen’s Mardi Gras Film Festival turns the spotlight on Asia this year by hosting delegates from the Asia Pacific Queer Film Festival Alliance (APQFFA) and screening a range of contemporary and classic feature films, documentaries and short films produced in the Pan Asia region. Formed in 2015, the APQFFA is made up of members from 17 Asian Pacific queer film festivals and aims to enhance the visibility of LGBTIQ people and cinema in the region. Co-founder Jay Lin explains: "For years as a director and programmer for the Taiwan International Queer Film Festival, I have looked often by default to mostly non-Asian films to fill the line-up, but the reality is that there are many stories originating from the Asia- Pacific that are worthy of sharing with each other. Thus, I founded the APQFFA, along with other members, to start sharing more resources with each other to find these films, and encouraging mutual communication that will hopefully result in further fruitful endeavours including co-productions, festival exchanges, joint promotions and many wonderful things that can happen when people dream beyond borders, languages, and restrictions”.     DET HAR HÄNT nedslag i hbtqi-historien 1869-2020 På dessa ark beskriver vi utdrag ur den historia som specifikt handlar om homosexuella, bisexuella, transpersoner, queeras och intersexpersoners rättigheter och liv. Det går att gå tillbaka långt, långt i tiden. Här presenterar vi några av många milstolpar och tongivande personer mellan 1896 och 2020. Huvudfokus ligger här på den svenska och europeiska hbtqi-historien, men vi gör också utblickar till andra delar av världen. Vi följer även RFSL arbete från starten 1950 till idag. Det finns oändligt mycket mer att säga, läsa och veta än vad som ryms här men klart är att kampen för lika rättigheter pågått länge, och fortsätter. Mycket har hant och mycket aterstar att gora.
